12 injured in South Carolina mall mass shooting, second incident in the US in just 5 days
Ten people were shot and two others injured in a shooting at a shopping mall in South Carolina's capital, which authorities say was not a random attack. Three people who had firearms were initially detained in connection with the Saturday afternoon shooting at Columbiana Centre, said Columbia Police Chief W.H. 'Skip' Holbrook. Jewayne M. Price, 22, has been charged with unlawful carrying of a pistol, but additional charges are forthcoming, authorities said. Two additional males, who were not named, were also detained for questioning and were released from police custody after it was determined that they were not involved in the shooting.

Dianne Feinstein and the dangers of gerontocracy
If you ever feel like politics is stuck in the past, consider the ages of who is involved at the highest levels. President Joe Biden is currently 79; he's the oldest person to have ever assumed the office of the presidency. His 2020 presidential opponent (and possible 2024 GOP nominee) Donald Trump is currently 75. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is 82. At 71, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is practically a spring chicken. When the 117th Congress began last year, the average age of a House member was 58; the average senator was 64. Over time, the average age of a member of Congress has gotten older. America is being ruled by a gerontocracy. Some of this is just a result of longer lifespans and longer working lives. And some of it is a byproduct of the graying of America, which has grown older in the years past the baby boom.

Thierry Meyssan: The goal of the Ukraine conflict is to economically collapse Europe (podcast)
French intellectual Thierry Meyssan discusses Ukraine and the end of the unipolar moment. Since the collapse of the USSR, Washington has tried to prevent any power from challenging it, including the European Union. The EU is a good market but must never become a political power. The Ukraine conflict is being used to pauperize and economically collapse Europe, which will happen. Russia is militarily stronger than the U.S. For over a decade there has been a growing movement of Nazism or Banderism in Ukraine which now makes up one-third of the armed forces. He explains why false flag operations are so successful and that perhaps next time such an operation will be used against Russia or China or anyone and everyone! He lived in Libya and Syria and worked with both governments and explains how the Pentagon uses Daesh as its private army and is doing the same with the Neo-Nazis in Ukraine. He doesn't think the U.S. will go to war with Russia or China as they are too formidable, and that...

A company insider says Walt Disney Company, one of the world's largest and most lucrative children's entertainment entities, has received a wave of backlash after its leadership has opposed Florida's anti-grooming legislation. Dan Bongino, a political commentator and podcast host, said Thursday that a Disney insider had approached him with a peek into the negative feedback coming over the phones. Concerned callers wanted to let the company know that they weren't happy with the increasingly woke direction Disney has taken. "The woman told me that the calls are overwhelming," Bongino said.

Polish-Jewish journalist quits newspaper after it demands Ukraine's neo-Nazi militia be described as 'far-right'
One of Poland's most prominent journalists, Konstanty Gebert, said he is quitting what many regard as the country's newspaper of record after it demanded that he describe Ukraine's controversial Azov Battalion as "far-right" instead of "neo Nazi." The Azov militia, a small subset of a few thousand soldiers within Ukraine's military, often sport Nazi imagery on their clothing and flags. Gebert, who is Jewish, announced his resignation Thursday in his weekly column, "The Weather Forecast," which he has penned for many years and published in Gazeta Wyborca, a left-leaning publication.

SOTT FOCUS: The Military Situation in the Ukraine: An Update
The Operational Situation As of March 25, 2022, our analysis of the situation confirms the observations and conclusions made in mid-March. The offensive launched on February 24 is articulated in two lines of effort, in accordance with Russian operational doctrine: 1) A main effort directed toward the south of the country, in the Donbass region, and along the Azov Sea coast. As the doctrine states, the main objectives are — the neutralization of the Ukrainian armed forces (the objective of "demilitarization"), and the neutralization of ultra-nationalist, paramilitary militias in the cities of Kharkov and Mariupol (the objective of "denazification"). This primary push is being led by a coalition of forces: through Kharkov and Crimea are Russian forces from the Southern Military District; in the center are militia forces from the Donetsk and Lugansk republics; the Chechen National Guard is contributing with engagement in the urban area of Mariupol; 2) A secondary effort on Kiev, aimed...

Ukraine's prime minister says Mariupol 'defenders' will 'fight to the end' (whether they want to or not)
Comment: As the US' mouthpiece in Europe RFE/RL delivers a prime piece of propaganda Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has threatened to break off talks with Moscow should Russian forces wipe out the remaining Ukrainian soldiers trapped in Mariupol as Moscow claimed it had taken control of the besieged and battered port city after a weeks-long battle. The Russian Defense Ministry on April 16 said it had cleared the Mariupol urban area of Ukrainian troops and had trapped a few remaining fighters in the Azovstal steel plant, according to Russian state-run media. A Russian Defense Ministry spokesman was quoted by Russia's RIA Novosti news agency as saying that Ukrainian forces have lost a total of 4,000 troops during the long fight for the city -- a battle that has caught the world's attention for its brutality.

He also claimed that 68 targets were hit overnight, including two S-300 air defense missile system radars, as well as several weapons depots and fuel terminals. Ukraine war: Germany boosts military aid budget to €2 billion
Comment: Looks like the guilt trip, plus pressure from NATO worked. Berlin says it will drastically increase its budget for global military assistance, with much of it earmarked for Ukraine. Russia, meanwhile, has threatened further attacks on Kyiv. The German government on Friday said it plans to release more than €1 billion in military aid for Ukraine, amid complaints by Kyiv it is not receiving heavy weapons from Berlin. The funds will feature in a supplementary budget for this year. In total, taking into account all countries, Berlin has decided to increase its international aid in the defence sector "to two billion euros" with "the largest part being planned in the form of military aid in favour of Ukraine", a government spokeswoman told AFP. This envelope of €2bn ($2.16bn) "will go mainly to Ukraine", Finance Minister Christian Lindner confirmed on Twitter. The funds must be used by Ukraine to mainly finance purchases of military equipment.

UK: Support for Russia sanctions drops amid inflation worries
The soaring cost of living in the UK appears to have overshadowed concern for Ukraine The number of Britons advocating harsh economic sanctions against Russia in response to its military campaign in Ukraine has dropped over the past month, as revealed by the latest opinion poll. Conducted by Redfield and Wilton Strategies and commissioned by The Sunday Telegraph, the survey indicates that only 36% of the respondents polled this week are prepared to accept higher fuel prices in order to hurt Russia more - 14 percentage points down from 50% in March. A third of the Britons surveyed replied in the negative when asked if they were willing to pay more for food to help Ukraine withstand the Russian offensive. Another third, however, said it's a sacrifice worth making.

We can't let them get away with this power grab - Dr.Tess Lawrie
I just got off a call with the WHO that's left me shaken, reaching for my affirmations and more determined than ever. As you may know, the WHO is proposing a global pandemic agreement that would give it undemocratic rights over every participating nation and its citizens. Put simply, in the event of a 'pandemic', the WHO's constitution would replace every country's constitution. Whether your country's elected government would agree or not, the WHO could impose lockdowns, testing regimes, enforce medical interventions, dictate all public health practice, and much more. Over the course of this pandemic, the WHO has withheld safe and established older medicines, ignored the experiences of frontline doctors, disregarded evidence from low, middle and high-income countries, and taken no heed of the values and preferences of people affected by their recommendations. It has apparently ignored the huge numbers of adverse reactions on its own database and has failed to issue warnings about...

Riots spread in Sweden amid far-right plans to burn Koran
Chants of 'Allahu Akbar', police cars set on fire, and officers injured - this is what the run-up to Easter looked like in multiple towns and cities across Sweden this week, after the authorities gave a far-right anti-immigration group the go-ahead to stage rallies, which included plans to burn the Koran. Unrest broke out on Thursday in the city of Linkoping, where gangs of youths clashed with police, injuring three officers. At least two people were detained. The violence was sparked by the Swedish authorities' decision to grant permission for a series of anti-Islam rallies. Organized by Rasmus Paludan - a right-wing Danish politician who has spent time in prison on racism-related charges - the events in various places across Sweden were intended to feature the burning of Islam's holy book, the Koran. Tensions came to a head on Friday when the Danish firebrand descended on the city of Orebro. While Paludan and his supporters were initially allowed to hold their rally, it...

British commandos return to Ukraine
British SAS troops have trained Ukrainian forces for the first time since the Russian military offensive began, in February, Ukrainian commanders told The Times on Friday. Instructors from the UK were previously withdrawn from the country, two months ago, when NATO member states were expecting a Russian assault. The British have now returned to teach locals how to use NLAWs, UK-supplied shoulder-fired anti-tank missile launchers, the paper explained, citing Captain Yury Mironenko and two other Ukrainian commanders, identified only by their nicknames. The units which received the training are stationed around the capital, Kiev, the report revealed. Mironenko told the paper: "We have received huge military help from Britain. But the people who knew how to use NLAWs were in other places, so we had to go on YouTube to teach ourselves." He added that the British officers were in their unit two weeks ago.

US Army using lessons from Ukraine war to aid own training
In the dusty California desert, U.S. Army trainers are already using lessons learned from Russia's war against Ukraine as they prepare soldiers for future fights against a major adversary such as Russia or China. The role-players in this month's exercise at the National Training Center speak Russian. The enemy force that controls the fictional town of Ujen is using a steady stream of social media posts to make false accusations against the American brigade preparing to attack. In the coming weeks, the planned training scenario for the next brigade coming in will focus on how to battle an enemy willing to destroy a city with rocket and missile fire in order to conquer it. If the images seem familiar, they are, playing out on televisions and websites worldwide right now as Russian forces pound Ukrainian cities with airstrikes, killing scores of civilians. The information war on social media has showcased impassioned nightly speeches by Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as...
