Russia claims mass surrender of Ukrainian marines dug in at Mariupol
More than 1,000 service members of Ukraine's 36th Marines Brigade have surrendered in the port city of Mariupol, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed on Wednesday during a daily briefing. According to a Russian military report, the troops laid down their arms at the Illich Steel and Iron Works, a giant metal mill they were using as a stronghold against Moscow's forces. A total of 1,026 service members, including 162 officers, were among the captives, ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov said. He said 47 of the soldiers were female. Russian medics provided first aid to 151 injured captives before moving them to a local hospital, the official said.

Ukrainian opposition leader arrested UPDATE
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his delight on Tuesday after Kiev's successor to the Soviet-era KGB arrested the country's most prominent opposition leader. The SBU is Ukraine's main intelligence and security agency, founded in 1991 to replace the KGB. The President shared a photo of his handcuffed rival Viktor Medvedchuk on social media, with the caption: "A special operation was carried out by the SBU. Well done! Details to follow." Zelensky later said "I consider it especially cynical of him to use military camouflage," mocking Medvedchuk as trying to pose as a "warrior" and "patriot" and proposing to exchange the detained politician for Ukrainian prisoners of war held by Russia. Medvedchuk heads the second largest party in the national parliament, the "Opposition Platform - For Life." He was previously placed under house arrest, last year, as part of Zelensky's clampdown on dissent, which was granted tacit approval by the regime's Western supporters....

NY Times writer admits schools are grooming children into LGBT identities
A New York Times columnist has again confirmed that social conservatives were right: educators are pushing LGBT ideology on students. Is Michelle Goldberg a conservative plant at The New York Times? Although she claims to be a liberal feminist, some of her recent columns are essentially admissions that social conservatives have been right all along. In another entry in this genre, she purports to critique the "freakout over sex and gender identity in schools" — only to tacitly admit that schools are indoctrinating children into LGBT ideology and grooming them into LGBT identities. Goldberg accuses conservatives of stoking a "moral panic" akin to the "'satanic panic' of the 1980s, a frenzy of accusations of ritual child abuse that resulted in the conviction of dozens of innocent people." Yet she then demonstrates the current fears are reality-based. Her evidence that this is a panic consists of highlighting some unfounded rumors about educators indulging students with a furry...

The year of collapsing athletes
There are people tracking all the reports of athletes suddenly collapsing and dying in their prime, or heartbreakingly, even in their teens. This isn't a definitive study, but where are the answers and why don't we know them? There are a hundred million reasons to supply data that shows vaccines are "safe and effective". If our health really did matter, and the incidence of sudden deaths in athletes was the same as every other year, where are those studies? Why aren't we discussing this on the news? Some of the collapses and deaths listed here may have nothing to do with vaccines, the anonymous researchers admit and declare that. They want the full data, we all want the data. But it's nowhere to be found. The medico's and football clubs, and the Department of Health have gone from bragging about getting their boosters on Twitter to saying nothing. They are not so keen anymore to report or declare vaccination status. The rise in mid 2021 start at the same time a massive experimental...

Pentagon admits it can't verify who's responsible for alleged chemical attack in Mariupol
The US Defense Department cannot confirm the use of chemical weapons in Mariupol, a spokesman admitted on Tuesday. The claims were initially made on encrypted messaging app Telegram by the neo-Nazi Azov Battalion, part of the Ukrainian National Guard. "We are aware of social media reports which claim Russian forces deployed a potential chemical munition in Mariupol, Ukraine," Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said, adding that "we cannot confirm [the reports] at this time and will continue to monitor the situation closely." "These reports, if true, are deeply concerning and reflective of concerns that we have had about Russia's potential to use a variety of riot-control agents, including tear gas mixed with chemical agents, in Ukraine," he continued.

A study of cultism shows us why gatekeeping against leftists is a good thing
One of my favorite quotes of all time comes from writer and director Oliver Stone, who once said that "Hell is the impossibility of reason." In other words, if truth and logic are eradicated within a society then any hope for redemption or peace is lost. The world becomes a perpetual nightmare. I was reminded of this recently as I watched a documentary series called 'Wild Wild Country' about the bizarre events surrounding a cult that actually tried to hijack the state of Oregon in the 1980's. I have had a long time fascination with religious cultism, mainly because these groups show us how easily and how far modern humanity can fall into the madness of collectivism and zealotry given the right circumstances. Wild Wild Country is an examination of the Rajneesh cult, which was a global news phenomenon that had infiltrated the US in 1981. The movement was led spiritually by a man known as Rajneesh who would later call himself "Osho." Osho's religion revolved around a mish-mash of...

Twitter wars - My personal experience in Twitter's ongoing assault on free speech
Monday, April 4, 2022: It was, from my point of view, just another day in the life of @RealScottRitter — my Twitter "handle." I had a phone call scheduled with the editor of a publication I write for where we would discuss topics for a weekly column I was responsible for. I was also under deadline for another article I was writing for a second outlet that published my work, and was preparing a pitch to a third platform for another article. Such is the lot of a freelance writer — it is literally publish or perish. Part of my routine is to watch the news and keep up to speed on breaking events. This usually involves sitting in an overstuffed arm chair surfing news channels using a remote while simultaneously monitoring the various news feeds and social media applications on my smart phone. On this morning I was monitoring the breaking news out of the Ukrainian town of Bucha, north of Kiev, where the bodies of civilians had been discovered strewn along a major thoroughfare. The...

Propaganda machine in action: Networks covered the war in Ukraine more than the US invasion of Iraq
The evening news programs of the three dominant U.S. television networks devoted more coverage to the war in Ukraine last month than in any other month during all wars, including those in which the U.S. military was directly engaged, since the 1991 Gulf War against Iraq, according to the authoritative Tyndall Report. The only exception was the last war in which U.S. forces participated in Europe, the 1999 Kosovo campaign. Combined, the three networks — ABC, CBS, and NBC — devoted 562 minutes to the first full month of the war in Ukraine. That was more time than in the first month of the U.S. invasion of Panama in December 1989 (240 mins), its intervention in Somalia in 1992 (423 mins), and even the first month of its invasion of Afghanistan in November 2001 (306 minutes), according to a commentary published Thursday by Andrew Tyndall, who has monitored and coded the three networks' nightly news each weekday since 1988. No, wokeness is real. And it can get us killed
Weird that the media didn't cite Ketanji Brown Jackson's height and weight as her most important characteristics. When it came to THE FIRST BLACK WOMAN ON THE SUPREME COURT, it was all about her race. But after a guy shot up a New York City subway car this week, the last thing the media wanted to tell us was his race. For more than three hours after the attack, we got urgent alerts: Suspect at large! Police request public's help! Be on the alert for a male, about 5'8″, 160 lbs." In this particular case, the media's rule of never telling us the suspect's race (unless he's white) was more deranged than usual. This wasn't a carjacking. It wasn't a shooting at a block party. It wasn't an attack on an Asian or Jew. This crime had all the earmarks of a terror attack — smoke bombs, fireworks, a gas mask, and about a dozen people shot while trapped in a subway car. The police desperately needed the public's help, but most people were looking for a Middle Easterner. At least we knew it...

How US Intelligence sees Russia's behavior after Bucha
U.S. intelligence sources call it the Bucha Effect. After Kyiv triumphantly announced last weekend that Ukrainian forces had regained control of Bucha and other northern towns, elation quickly turned to anguish as civilian corpses were found on the streets, some with their hands tied behind their backs, evidently shot at close range. The images of civilian deaths halted negotiations by the two sides, particularly as Kyiv and the international community leveled accusations of war crimes and genocide on the part of Russia - accusations it has denied. Last Wednesday, Bucha Mayor Anatolii Fedoruk said that 320 people had been killed in the town of 37,000. Foreign Minister Kuleba called the deaths "mass murders," claiming as well that Russian killing of civilians was premeditated.

WHO says Covid still a global public health emergency even as deaths fall to lowest level in two years
The World Health Organization on Wednesday said Covid-19 remains a global public health emergency despite the fact that deaths from the virus have fallen to their lowest level since the early days of the pandemic. The world recorded more than 22,000 deaths from Covid during the week ended April 10, the lowest level since March 30, 2020, according to WHO data. The organization first declared Covid a global health emergency on Jan. 30, 2020, just over a month after the virus emerged in Wuhan, China. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said declining Covid deaths is good news, but some countries are still experiencing a spike in cases. Tedros said a WHO committee this week unanimously agreed that Covid remains a public health emergency.

Covid is becoming increasingly vaccine enabled
Each iteration of variant is posing greater infection risk to the vaccinated relative to the unvaxxed. is this becoming vaccine fixation syndrome? It has long been known that the covid vaccines were non-sterilizing. It has also been known, based on the countries like the UK that report the stats honestly that the vaccinated are at greater risk of contracting covid than the unvaxxed. This has even been known about the boosters. But where this gets really worrying is this: each new variant is seeing this relative risk rate rise and the rate of rise is accelerating. This is, unfortunately, exactly what one would predict as a leaky vaccine with a strong tendency to antigenically fixate those having received it drives viral evolution to prey upon this vulnerability. herd OAS replaces herd immunity and vaccine driven evolution does the rest. The UK data is getting really stark here. let's look. I took the raw data from the vaccine reports and compared cases per 100k population in...

"To have over a foot of snow, over a foot of snow, and our temperatures have been in the teens which means that it's just constantly building and building. People are just loving the powder," Dave Tragethon, VP of Sales & Marketing at Mt. Hood Meadows said. "We're seeing a turn out that is probably three times the amount that we'd normally see in the middle of the week because the powder is bringing out everyone to enjoy it -- it's great for us."

US sexually transmitted infections surged to record high in 2020
After briefly dropping in the early months of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) then resurged beyond 2019 levels to finish the year at a record high, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Researchers with the CDC said its report, 2020 Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance, shows how Covid-19 disrupted in-person healthcare and diverted scarce public health resources away from STIs, which had been on the rise for years. Ultimately, diverting resources to Covid-19 caused young people, racial minorities and gay and bisexual men to suffer disproportionately from new infections, it said. Comment: Rather than this just being due to a lack of access to healthcare, is it also because there was actually an increase in sexual activity amongst these populations?

US suddenly pretends to care about human rights abuses in India after Washington fails to get Delhi to distance itself from Russia
The United States is suddenly very concerned about human rights violations in India, with Secretary of State Antony Blinken telling the press on Monday that "we are monitoring some recent concerning developments in India including a rise in human rights abuses by some government, police and prison officials." While it is true that India's right-wing government is guilty of human rights abuses and has been for years, it is also true that the US State Department does not actually care about human rights abuses. A leaked State Department memo from the early days of the Trump administration showed neoconservative empire manager Brian Hook teaching a previously uninitiated Secretary of State Rex Tillerson that for the US government, "human rights" are only a weapon to be used for keeping other nations in line. In a remarkable insight into the cynical nature of imperial narrative management, Hook told Tillerson that it is US policy to overlook human rights abuses committed by nations...

Earliest evidence of Maya divination calendar discovered in ancient temple
Archaeologists in Guatemala have discovered the oldest evidence of the Maya calendar on record: two mural fragments that, when pieced together, reveal a notation known as "7 deer," a new study finds. The two "7 deer" fragments date to between 300 B.C. and 200 B.C., according to radiocarbon dating done by the research team. This early date indicates that this Maya divination calendar, which was also used by other pre-Columbian cultures in Mesoamerica, such as the Aztecs, has been in continuous use for at least 2,300 years, as it is still followed today by modern Maya, the researchers said. (Notably, this is not the Long Count calendar that some people used to suggest the world was going to end in 2012.)
