Elon Musk may be poised for a hostile takeover of Twitter
Days following the announcement that Elon Musk would be joining Twitter's board of directors, the billionaire entrepreneur reversed course to decide against joining the board, which would have hamstrung his ability to own more than 14.9% of company stock. Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal announced over the weekend that "Elon Musk has decided not to join our board." "The board and I had many discussions about Elon joining the board, and with Elon directly," Agrawal stated on Twitter. "We were excited to collaborate and clear about the risks. We also believed that having Elon as a fiduciary of the company where he, like all board members, has to act in the best interests of the company and all our shareholders, was the best path forward. The board offered him a seat." "We announced on Tuesday that Elon would be appointed to the board contingent on a background check and formal acceptance," Agrawal continued. "Elon's appointment to the board was to become officially effective 4/9, but Elon...

NY, Calif. failed in handling of COVID — but Florida was among best: study
New York, New Jersey and California failed in their handling of the COVID-19 pandemic because of stringent lockdowns and policies, while Florida was among the best-performing states in the country, a new study has found. The study, published by the Committee To Unleash Prosperity, graded states by comparing COVID-19 outcomes based on the number of deaths, the economy and impact on education. Overall, the bottom 10 on the study's "report card" were dominated by states that had the most severe pandemic lockdowns and were among the last to finally reopen schools. "Shutting down their economies and schools was by far the biggest mistake governors and state officials made during COVID, particularly in blue states," Stephen Moore, one of the study's authors and co-founder of the Committee To Unleash Prosperity, said Monday. Despite now-disgraced former Gov. Andrew Cuomo initially being hailed for his strict response to the pandemic, the Empire State performed "poorly on every measure" —...

Study suggests why most smokers don't get lung cancer
Cigarette smoking is overwhelmingly the main cause of lung cancer, yet only a minority of smokers develop the disease. A study led by scientists at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and published online today in Nature Genetics suggests that some smokers may have robust mechanisms that protect them from lung cancer by limiting mutations. The findings could help identify those smokers who face an increased risk for the disease and therefore warrant especially close monitoring. "This may prove to be an important step toward the prevention and early detection of lung cancer risk and away from the current herculean efforts needed to battle late-stage disease, where the majority of health expenditures and misery occur," said Simon Spivack, M.D., M.P.H., a co-senior author of the study, professor of medicine, of epidemiology & population health, and of genetics at Einstein, and a pulmonologist at Montefiore Health System. Overcoming Obstacles to Study Cell Mutations It's long been...

Hillary Clinton foments insurrection about the 2016 election — According to her own party's rules
There's something incredibly sad about a politician who is otherwise irrelevant, at least to the American public, but just can't let go. Hillary Clinton is a 74-year-old grandmother who lost a presidential election, not during the last cycle, but well over five years ago. Yet, instead of just enjoying her grandkids and the hundreds of millions of dollars she's made grifting off her time in government, she continues to shoehorn her way into the public eye. On Saturday, Clinton appeared at a political conference in Inglewood, CA. The specifics aren't really important, as all these things are a dime a dozen, i.e. a bunch of career politicians and bureaucrats preaching to the choir, saying the same things over and over, pretending to be profound. It's the world's largest back-slap circuit.

Italy signs new gas deal with Algeria in bid to cut reliance on Russia
Italy signed an agreement to increase gas imports from Algeria on Monday, the latest push by a European Union country to acquire alternative energy from Russia, following its invasion of Ukraine. Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said the deals - signed between Eni SpA and Algeria's state energy firm Sonatrach - were a significant step in Italy's drive to reduce its dependency on Russian gas. Russia is Italy's biggest supplier, representing 40 percent of total imports, followed by Algeria, which provides some 21 billion cubic metres of gas via the Trans-Mediterranean pipeline.

'Something is up': Rep. Jim Jordan suggests Hunter Biden indictment could be coming
Top House Republican Jim Jordan said on Sunday he thinks "something is up" with the MSM's recent flip-flop on the Hunter Biden laptop story - which was originally branded as Russian disinformation right before the 2020 US election, only to be validated as authentic in recent weeks amid a grand jury investigation into the First Son. According to Jordan, it "sure seems" that Hunter is on his way to being indicted - though he couldn't say for sure, according to the Washington Examiner. Jordan pointed to the remarkable timing of MSM outlets reporting on Hunter's laptop in seeming lockstep, which coincides with a flurry of grand jury activity.

NASA measures record breaking, huge comet headed towards Earth
Nasa has spotted a record-breakingly large comet headed nearer to Earth. Its icy nucleus is bigger than any ever seen - measuring around 80 miles across, and 50 times bigger than the heart of most known comets. It is also thought to have a mass of about 500 trillion tons - a hundred thousand times more massive than the typical comet found closer to the Sun. And the object, known as C/2014 UN271 (Bernardinelli-Bernstein), is headed in this direction, quickly. Travelling at 22,000 miles per hour, it is moving from the edge of the solar system towards its the centre. However, we should be entirely safe. The comet will not get closer than a billion miles from the Sun - further away even than the planet Saturn - and that will not happen until 2031.

Kremlin responds to Clinton's weasley NATO statement
Washington repeatedly declined Russian offers to join the bloc, according to Putin's spokesman Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has refuted former US President Bill Clinton's position on NATO's supposed open-door policy towards Russia, insisting that Washington made it impossible for Moscow to join the military bloc. "I know for sure that the American side has repeatedly spoken about the impossibility of such membership. De facto, it was said that the doors, on the contrary, are closed, because it is fundamentally impossible," Peskov told reporters on Monday. Earlier last week, Bill Clinton published an article in The Atlantic attempting to justify his administration's policy on the expansion of NATO.
