An interstellar object exploded over Earth in 2014, declassified government data reveal
Classified data prevented scientists from verifying their discovery for 3 years. A fireball that blazed through the skies over Papua New Guinea in 2014 was actually a fast-moving object from another star system, according to a recent memo(opens in new tab) released by the U.S. Space Command (USSC). The object, a small meteorite measuring just 1.5 feet (0.45 meter) across, slammed into Earth's atmosphere on Jan. 8, 2014, after traveling through space at more than 130,000 mph (210,000 km/h) — a speed that far exceeds the average velocity of meteors that orbit within the solar system, according to a 2019 study of the object published in the preprint database arXiv. That 2019 study argued that the wee meteor's speed, along with the trajectory of its orbit, proved with 99% certainty that the object had originated far beyond our solar system — possibly "from the deep interior of a planetary system or a star in the thick disk of the Milky Way galaxy," the authors wrote. But despite their...

Father of 5-year-old pterodactyl: It's not easy to get species-affirming care in America
Local man and father of a 5-year-old trans pterodactyl Bradley Mingastank is struggling to find the medical care his young dinosaur son needs, as it is very difficult to find species-affirming care in the United States. "Seriously, it's 2022, and we still haven't figured out how to provide adequate medical care to children who think they're extinct flying lizards," said Mingastank. "I do my best to raise my son Madison as a pterodactyl per his wishes, which is important for his self-esteem. I only communicate to him in ear-piercing dinosaur screeches, I feed him small rodents and fish, and every once in a while I push him off the roof of the garage so he can try flying. But no other doctors seem to be willing to help him get the ultraviolet heat lamps and lizard medicine his pterodactyl body desperately needs." According to sources within the family, Madison first discovered his true pterodactyl identity when he put on a Halloween costume and then refused to take it off. It was...

Father rejected as kidney donor for his own son over vaccine policy
The Cleveland Clinic's vaccination policy is preventing Dane Donaldson from donating a kidney to his nine-year-old son, Tanner, despite his being an almost perfect match. The clinic's policy is that all patients and donors who are still living must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order for surgery to be performed on them, and it appears that no exceptions are being made in the case of the Donaldsons. According to local news, Tanner Donaldson "...was born with one kidney and right now it functions at between 18-20 percent." His condition is currently being managed, but, sooner or later, he is going to need a transplant.

Israeli forces shoot dead Palestinian mother of 6 as she approached West Bank
Israeli soldiers shot and killed a Palestinian woman in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, the Palestinian Health Ministry said, after a string of deadly Arab and Palestinian attacks in Israel. The Israeli military said the woman had run towards soldiers at a position near Bethlehem and did not heed their calls or warning shots to stop. "When the suspect continued approaching, the soldiers fired towards the suspect's lower body," the military said, adding that no weapon had been found on the woman and that the incident was being investigated.

EU fails to agree Russian energy ban, Germany warns of 'upheaval' should it stop buying gas & considering fracking
The European Union's foreign ministers have not agreed on a ban on Russian oil and natural gas imports, Head Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said on Monday, adding that discussions on the issue will continue. The energy ban was expected to be part of the latest EU sanctions package against Moscow. "We discussed, first of all, how to ensure the effectiveness of the existing sanctions in order to avoid gaps in their implementation. But we also discussed new steps we can take, including sanctions against oil and gas," Borrell said. "We have not made decisions regarding such sanctions, we agreed to continue the discussion." Comment: Meaning that Russia will continue to supply both Europe and the US with gas and oil whilst they continue to suppy and sacrifice Ukraine for their proxy-war on Russia. Nothing to see here: Investigation finds $54M in Chinese gifts donated to UPenn, home of Biden Center
A government watchdog is demanding the US attorney probing Hunter Biden in Delaware investigate tens of millions in anonymous donations from China to the University of Pennsylvania, where an academic center is named for his father, President Biden. The Ivy League college raked in a total of $54.6 million from 2014 through June 2019 in donations from China, including $23.1 million in anonymous gifts starting in 2016, according to public records. Most of the anonymous donations came after the university announced in February 2017 that it would create the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement. Joe Biden, whose term as vice president had just ended, was to lead the center and was also named a professor at the university.

Pakistani lawmakers 'elect' Shahbaz Sharif as new premier
Pakistan's Supreme Court on Thursday blocked Prime Minister Imran Khan's bid to stay in power, ruling that his move to dissolve Parliament and call early elections was illegal. That set the stage for a no-confidence vote by opposition lawmakers, who say they have enough support to oust him. Pakistan's parliament elected opposition lawmaker Shahbaz Sharif as the country's new prime minister on Monday, after a walkout by lawmakers from ousted Premier Imran Khan's party. Sharif was the only contender. He is the brother of disgraced former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif but his election will not guarantee a peaceful path forward — or solve Pakistan's many economic problems, including high inflation and a soaring energy crisis. Shahbaz Sharif was elected with 174 votes in his favor after more than 100 lawmakers from Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, or Pakistan Justice Party, staged a walkout of the National Assembly in protest.

The people promising us "Net Zero" have no clue about the energy storage problem
If you are even a semi-regular reader of this blog, you know about the energy storage problem that is inherent in the effort to eliminate dispatchable fossil fuels from the electricity generation system and replace them with wind and solar. As discussed here many times, other than with nuclear power, the storage problem is the critical issue that must be addressed if there is ever going to be "net zero" electricity generation, let alone a "net zero" economy based on all energy usage having been electrified. For a sample of my prior posts on this subject just in the last few months, go here, here and here. The problems of trying to provide enough storage to back up a fully wind and solar system without fossil fuels are so huge and so costly that you would think that everyone pushing the "net zero" agenda would be completely focused on these issues. And given that the issues are quite obvious, you would think that such people would be well down the curve with feasibility studies,...

Ukraine War: Russia warns Sweden and Finland against NATO membership
Russia has warned Finland and Sweden against joining NATO, arguing the move would not bring stability to Europe. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that "the alliance remains a tool geared towards confrontation". It comes as US defence officials said Moscow's invasion of Ukraine has been a "massive strategic blunder" which is likely to bring NATO enlargement. US officials expect the Nordic neighbours to bid for membership of the alliance, potentially as early as June. Washington is believed to support the move which would see the Western alliance grow to 32 members. US State Department officials said last week that discussions had taken place between NATO leaders and foreign ministers from Helsinki and Stockholm. Before it launched its invasion, Russia demanded that the alliance agree to halt any future enlargement, but the war has led to the deployment of more NATO troops on its eastern flank and a rise in public support for Swedish and Finnish membership.

Kiev Independent deep dive: The West's in-kind answer to Putin's propaganda
As the Russian attack on Ukraine has come to dominate global news feeds, so has a previously little-known outlet called The Kyiv Independent. Since its inception in November of last year, the Independent's profile has risen rapidly and has been promoted and endorsed by both social media giants and the corporate press. The Kyiv Independent has become the toast of the town. It seems virtually impossible to turn on cable news without seeing its reporters on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, or other networks.
Its staff has been given the opportunity to write multiple op-eds in the pages of The New York Times and The Washington Post, something considered the ultimate seal of approval by many journalists. NPR listeners might also have heard interviews with reporters from the Independent. The results of American aggression that are positive for Russia
Especially for thinking people - regular readers of this channel - I will briefly outline the reasons for the monstrous war that unfolded before our eyes in Ukraine. There is nothing worse than a war between social groups of the same people. In this case, ours, the Russian people, which for centuries was formed on the territory of present-day Ukraine, which at one time, at the initiative of Lenin, included Malorossiya, Novorossiya and Carpatho-Russia . I grew up in Zaporozhye, near which heavy fighting is now taking place in order to destroy the Ukrainian Nazis, who never existed in my small Motherland. I studied at a Ukrainian school and I know Ukrainian literature and language well, which from a scientific point of view is a dialect of Russian. I did not notice anything Russophobic in Ukrainian culture. In the 17 years of my life in Zaporozhye, I have never met a single Banderist. It was considered an offensive word and for its use in someone's address one could get it in the...

Lavrov: Russia seeks to end US-dominated world order
Russia's military action in Ukraine is meant to put an end to the US-dominated world order, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has explained. Washington has been seeking supremacy by imposing ad-hoc rules and violating international law, he claimed, in an interview aired by Russian television on Monday. He was referring to America's attempts to impose its own so-called "rules-based international order," which have met with strong resistance from Moscow and China. Lavrov told Rossiya 24 news channel: "Our special military operation is meant to put an end to the unabashed expansion [of NATO] and the unabashed drive towards full domination by the US and its Western subjects on the world stage. This domination is built on gross violations of international law and under some rules, which they are now hyping so much and which they make up on a case-by-case basis." Russia is among the nations who would not submit to Washington's will, the Russian diplomat added. It will only be part...

Russian obliterates 'EU supplied' S-300 launchers in Ukraine, top neo-Nazi commander killed by Russian commandos
Russian forces have destroyed foreign-supplied S-300 anti-aircraft launchers in a number of precision strikes on Ukraine, the Defense Ministry, in Moscow, claimed on Monday. Days earlier, Slovakia reported the donation of a battery of old Soviet-made S-300 air defense missiles to Kiev. In its regular briefing on the ongoing military action in Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry reported hitting a hangar "on the southern outskirts of the city of Dnepropetrovsk," where "equipment from an S-300 battery supplied to the Ukrainian regime by one of the European nations" was hidden. The barrage of sea-launched Kalibr missiles destroyed four S-300 launchers and as many as 25 Ukrainian troops in the Sunday strike, ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov claimed. He used the old name of the city, which Ukrainian authorities renamed Dnepro in 2016 to distance it from the Soviet period of the country's history.
