Justice: 2 - FBI: 0: Two men acquitted, jury deadlocked on 2 others in Michigan Gov. Whitmer 'kidnapping plot'
Two of four men were acquitted Friday in a conspiracy to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in 2020, motivated by fury at the Democrat's tough COVID-19 restrictions early in the pandemic. The verdicts against Daniel Harris and Brandon Caserta were read in the federal court in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Jurors said they couldn't agree on verdicts against Adam Fox and Barry Croft Jr. Prosecutors described Fox as a ringleader of an anti-government group. Earlier in the day, the jurors said that there are several counts which the deliberative body were deadlocked on. Testimony began on March 9. "It is not unusual to come back somewhere along the line of deliberations and say 'we tried, but couldn't get there,'" U.S. District Judge Robert Jonker said, according to Detroit News. "At least not on everything."

Parts of Accra, Ghana flooded after 1-hour downpour
Some areas in Accra have flooded after a heavy rainfall on Friday, April 8. The one-hour heavy rainfall, obstructed the flow of vehicular traffic on the Weija Barrier - West Hills Mall stretch of the Kasoa Highway, Central Business District, Sahara and Odawna, among other areas. While many commuters parked their cars for the rain to subside, others carefully drove through the flood which covered most part of the road. The Ghana Meteorological Agency had already predicted a thunderstorm on Friday, a few hours before the rain.

Refusing 'rublegas' starting to bite: No German glass without Russian gas
An entire industry could stop if Germany loses Russian supplies A complete cessation of Russian gas supplies could damage Germany's energy-intensive enterprises, especially glassmakers, German TV channel Das Erste reported, citing industry insiders. According to the publication, producing glass involves the raw materials at glass-producing factories being heated to 1,600 degrees Celsius, and then maintained at this temperature around the clock to prevent the raw glass from hardening. The process demands a significant amount of energy, a large amount of which is derived from Russian-sourced natural gas. Germany is in fact the EU's biggest buyer of natural gas from Russia, which covers 58.9% of the country's needs, according to the statistics agency Eurostat.

Dozens hospitalised as Iraq engulfed by dust storm
Baghdad and other cities covered in ghostly orange dust, causing respiratory issues A dust storm has swept through much of Iraq, leaving dozens of people in hospital with respiratory problems, a health ministry spokesperson said on Saturday. The storm formed in the north of the country on Thursday, prompting the cancellation of flights serving Erbil, capital of the autonomous Kurdistan region. As the storm swept south, it shrouded Baghdad and cities as far south as Nasiriyah in a ghostly orange. In the capital, buildings and vehicles were covered in ochre-coloured dust, Agence France-Presse (AFP) journalists reported.

The US intel community killed its own credibility by revealing its Ukraine policies
Using disinformation to thwart an enemy is one thing. Spreading it to your own public and policymakers is another The US intelligence community has long claimed that integrity in the search for truth was its core value. In March 1992, Robert Gates, who at that time was serving as director of Central Intelligence, addressed the CIA's analytical community on the issue of politicized intelligence. "Bourne Cockran [note: an Irish-American politician known for his oratory skills who mentored Winston Churchill]," Gates noted, "wrote to Winston Churchill in 1895 that, 'What the people really want to hear is the truth - it is the exciting thing - speak the simple truth. Twenty years later, Churchill himself wrote, 'The truth is incontrovertible; panic may resent it; ignorance may deride it; malice may destroy it, but there it is.' Truth, insofar as we can determine it, is what our [i.e., the CIA's] work is all about." Moreover, Gates pointed out, "because seeking truth is what we [the CIA]...

Fox, Croft and Harris faced additional charges. The two most serious charges, kidnapping conspiracy and conspiracy to use explosives, both carry potential life sentences. Defense attorneys portrayed their clients as credulous weekend warriors prone to big, wild talk, who were often stoned. They said FBI undercover agents and informants tricked and cajoled the men into agreeing to a conspiracy.

Ron DeSantis has raised more money than any other candidate for governor ever, report says
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis may soon raise more money for his re-election campaign than he and his former Democratic opponent Andrew Gillum raised combined in the 2018 gubernatorial election. DeSantis has raised more than $100 million for his 2022 campaign, a monstrous sum achieved entirely through donations. He raised $6.1 million in March alone, according to CNN, and had previously reported raising a total of $96 million for this election cycle through February. In comparison, the leading Democratic candidate to challenge DeSantis this year, Rep. Charlie Crist, has raised only $7.1 million and has $4.7 million cash on hand. Another Democratic candidate, state Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, raised just $6 million so far and has spent more than half of that in the Democratic primary campaign. The March fundraising numbers will be officially released Monday, which is the Florida deadline to report candidate fundraising. To put the $100 million figure in perspective, DeSantis...

Alberta's chief medical officer grilled during civil suit
Alberta provincial health officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw faced her fourth straight day of questioning in an Alberta courtroom on Thursday as an unprecedented civil suit against the province's COVID restrictions continues. Lawyers with the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF) have zeroed in on Hinshaw's use of certain language - including "non-believers," "conspiracy theory," "naysayers," "new normal" - and social justice commitments, as well as a highly publicized incident from October that saw Hinshaw apologize for initially blaming the death of a 14-year-old on COVID when he had actually died of brain cancer. The long-delayed trial began this week, with JCCF lawyers representing a number of churches and individuals - including a gym owner - who had filed a constitutional challenge in Dec. 2020. At that time, the plaintiffs had filed for an injunction against Alberta's restrictions - including lockdowns involving their businesses, places of worship and family gatherings -...

Two EU states may end cooperation over Ukraine
Warsaw wants Hungary's Orban to back its anti-Russia position before partnership can continue. Polish Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski, one of the top politicians of the Eastern European nation, said on Friday that cooperation with Hungary would not be possible unless Prime Minister Viktor Orban aligns himself with Kiev. Prior to the conflict in Ukraine, Poland and Hungary were staunch allies. Kaczynski said in a radio interview that he has an "unequivocally negative" opinion of Orban's refusal to take a harder stance on Russia following the latter's military offensive on Ukraine. "When Orban says that he cannot see what happened in Bucha, he must be advised to see an eye doctor," Kaczynski said, referring to Orban's refusal to blame Russia for the killing of civilians in the Ukrainian town of Bucha. Russia has strongly rejected the allegations, claiming Ukrainian forces staged a "crude and cynical provocation," and has demanded a UN investigation into the incident. Orban's...

Iran's progress with nuclear technology 'not reversible'
President Ebrahim Raisi has said that Iran will continue nuclear development activities as talks to revive Tehran's nuclear deal with world powers remain stalled, state media reported. Speaking in a ceremony marking Iran's national day of nuclear technology, the hard-line president said his administration will support an acceleration in research of peaceful nuclear technology. "Our knowledge and technology in the nuclear field is not reversible. Iran's (continuation of) research in peaceful nuclear fields will not depend on others' demands or viewpoints." His comments came as talks between Iran and world powers in Vienna to revive the 2015 nuclear deal have stalled. There is concern that Iran could be closer to being able to construct an atomic weapon if it chose to pursue one.

EU leader wanted proof Bucha wasn't staged - Zelensky
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed that an EU member state's leader called into question Kiev's version of events surrounding the Bucha killings, asking for proof that the atrocities were not staged. Speaking to German newspaper Bild on Friday, Zelensky described how a leading EU politician asked him for evidence proving that the Bucha massacre had not been staged. The remark came after the Bild journalist asked what the worst thing he had heard in recent days was. When the interviewer probed further, asking whether it was the head of state of an EU nation, Zelensky replied in the affirmative, though he refused to name the official. Ukraine claims Russian troops committed atrocities against civilians in the town of Bucha northwest of Kiev before retreating last week. Russia has rejected the accusations, and claims Kiev manipulated evidence in what it calls a "provocation." Commenting on Berlin's support for Kiev, the Ukrainian president lamented Germany's apparent...

The dollar dethroned: We have reached the end of monetary policy as we all once knew it
People who speak out openly with concern about the potential death of the U.S. dollar have been written off as conspiracy theorists for the better part of the last few decades. But looking back, unfortunately, I'm sure history is going to be kind to these people and their prognostications. They will have been the ones who sounded the alarm in a relatively short amount of time before ultimately being proven right. I don't say this to brag or boast in advance in any way, I say it because I truly believe we are at the "beginning of the end" of the Keynesian economic experiment. Less than two weeks ago, I wrote an article proclaiming that Russia would back the ruble with gold as a way to fight back against Western economic sanctions. I also made similar predictions about the new digital Chinese currency last summer when I first started Fringe Finance. To me, since I began piecing together my understanding of macroeconomics and the global economy about a decade ago, it had become...

Here's the truth about Russia's So-called 'Filtration Centers'
What CNN is doing amounts to a weaponization of Russia's truly humanitarian policy of providing aid to Ukrainian refugees by misportraying it as something nefarious when it isn't anything of the sort but exactly the complete opposite. Moscow is complying with its international legal responsibilities to such people, which requires money, time, logistics, and personnel. These wouldn't be expended unless Russia truly cared to help those refugees. CNN published a misleading piece on Friday titled "Russia or die: After weeks under Putin's bombs, these Ukrainians were given only one way out" about what it described as that country's so-called "filtration centers" for Ukrainian refugees. The article quotes several people who claim that they were forced to move to that neighboring country against their will. Throughout the process, they were checked for Nazi tattoos and asked various questions to ensure that they aren't undercover agents or posed any other security threat to Russia. After...

Price of standing with Russia? Pakistani PM loses no-confidence vote
Pakistan's National Assembly has passed a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday, with 176 lawmakers out of 342 voting against him. The speaker of the parliament's lower house Asad Qaisar, who is also a member of Khan's party, announced his resignation after adjourning the house three times throughout Saturday. Khan PTI's party effectively lost its majority in the National Assembly in March when seven MPs from its coalition partner decided to join the opposition's ranks. The rivals accused the cricket star-turned-politician of mismanaging Pakistan's economy, battered by the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as mishandling Islamabad's foreign and internal policy. Sunday's motion means that Khan's five-year term has ended early, much like that of all previous prime ministers of the country. Comment: Imran Khan had been very vocal about his support for Russia, visiting Russia just after the Russian operation in Ukraine. He also told the US in no uncertain terms...

Russia sounds alarm over Ukraine's plans for false flag operation in Irpin using dead bodies of POWs
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed on Saturday that Ukraine will use the bodies of captured Russian soldiers to manipulate Western reporters in Irpin, a town near Kiev. Ukraine previously accused Moscow of killing hundreds of civilians in the area around the capital, which Russia denies. Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov said Kiev is "preparing another provocation with the goal of accusing Russia of mass killings of civilians." Konashenkov claimed that Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) officials are planning to take the bodies of people who "died from Ukrainian artillery" from a morgue to the basement of one of the buildings on the eastern outskirts of Irpin.

US lawmakers welcomed notorious Georgian warlord now boasting of war crimes in Ukraine
Top lawmakers in US Congress hosted Mamuka Mamulashvili, an infamous Georgian Legion warlord who has boasted of authorizing field executions of captive Russian soldiers in Ukraine. Having taken up arms against Russia for a fifth time, Georgian Legion commander Mamuka Mamulashvili has bragged on video about his unit carrying out field executions of captured Russian soldiers in Ukraine. While Western media pundits howled about images of dead bodies in the city of Bucha, echoing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksy's accusation that Russia is guilty of "genocide," they have largely overlooked the apparent admission of atrocities by an avowed ally of the United States who was welcomed on Capitol Hill by senior lawmakers overseeing congressional foreign policy committees.

No more German army weapons for Ukraine, is 'constantly coordinating' with Kiev to facilitate purchases directly from manufacturers - Berlin
The German military can no longer supply Ukraine with weapons from its stockpiles, Germany's Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht has said. In an interview with Die Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung published on Saturday, Lambrecht said that while "we all have an obligation to support Ukraine in its courageous fight," in terms of "supplies from the Bundeswehr's stockpiles" Germany has "in the meantime reached a limit." She explained that the German military had to "be able to ensure" the country's own defense. "But that doesn't mean we can't do more for Ukraine," Lambrecht stressed, suggesting that Kiev could buy equipment it needed from German manufacturers directly. The minister pointed out that the German government "was constantly coordinating" with the authorities in Kiev to facilitate such purchases. YouTube blocks Russian parliament's channel
YouTube blocked a Russian parliamentary channel "for a violation of YouTube's Terms of Service" amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Reuters reported. The video platform terminated the channel for Russia's lower house of parliament. "If we find that an account violates our Terms of Service, we take appropriate action. Our teams are closely monitoring the situation for any updates and changes," Google, YouTube's parent company, told Reuters in an email, noting that it was committed to trade compliance law adherence and sanction compliance. But the move drew outrage from Russian figures and Russian internet regulator Roskomnadzor.
