Ex-UN prosecutor urges global arrest warrant for Putin
The former chief prosecutor of United Nations war crimes tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda has called for an international arrest warrant to be issued for Russian President Vladimir Putin. "Putin is a war criminal," Carla Del Ponte told the Swiss newspaper Le Temps in an interview published Saturday. In interviews given to Swiss media to mark the release of her latest book, the Swiss lawyer who oversaw U.N. investigations in Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia said there were clear war crimes being committed in Ukraine. She said she was particularly shocked by the use of mass graves in Russia's war on Ukraine, which recalls the worst of the wars in the former Yugoslavia. She told the newspaper Blick: "I hoped never to see mass graves again. These dead people have loved ones who don't even know what's become of them. That is unacceptable." Comment: Perhaps Del Ponte should have been referring to: Spinning in the (mass) grave: Western media dig dirt to cover Kiev's...

Defense Department to send Ukraine $300 million in additional military equipment
The Department of Defense will provide up to $300 million in security assistance and equipment to Ukraine as the nation continues to rally against Russian forces, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby announced Friday. Why it matters: The move comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Wednesday that Russia's invasion has reached a "turning point," and that he had spoken with President Biden about Ukrainian forces needing more military help. Driving the news: The new package includes laser-guided rocket systems, unmanned aircraft, armored vehicles, night vision devices tactical secure communications systems, ammunition and medical supplies. What he's saying: "This decision underscores the United States' unwavering commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity in support of its heroic efforts to repel Russia's war of choice." Kirby said in a statement: It "represents the beginning of a contracting process to provide new capabilities to Ukraine's Armed...

April Fools... U.S. boosts import of Russian oil while urging world to impose ruinous sanctions
The contradictions that stem from American and European arrogance have finally hit breaking point. The United States reportedly boosted its import of Russian oil last month, according to official figures from the Energy Information Administration. The extra imported volume accounted for a 43 percent increase. This is in spite of an executive order by U.S. President Joe Biden on March 8 to ban all energy and hydrocarbon commodities from Russia. That draconian measure was declared in response to Russia's military intervention in Ukraine that was launched on February 24. Admittedly, the United States does not rely heavily on Russia for its crude oil supply. Russia is not in the top five suppliers to the U.S., according to the EIA. Nevertheless, the apparent ramping up of U.S. purchase of Russian oil strikes a bizarre chord. It comes as Washington is demanding European allies to cut energy trade with Russia. And it's not just the Europeans that are being ordered to do so. India and...

Europe's top economy faces worst cost of living crisis in decades, business leader warns German industry would collapse without Russian gas
The inflation rate in Germany jumped to a more than 30-year high, and is expected to rise by 7.3% in March compared to the same period last year, according to preliminary data released by the German Federal Statistics Office (Destatis) on Wednesday. Consumer prices will also be 2.5% higher compared to February, data shows. "The prices for natural gas and mineral oil products have again risen noticeably and are having a significant impact on the high inflation rate," Destatis explains, adding that the inflation rate was also similarly high in West Germany in 1981, nearly a decade before it was reunited with East Germany in 1990 to form the current state. The statistics office also cites supply bottlenecks due to disruptions in supply chains caused by the coronavirus pandemic as a contributing factor to the significant price increases. Final inflation figures for March will be released on April 12.

Italy ready to guarantee Ukraine's neutral status
Italy is actively seeking to broker peace in Ukraine and is willing to become a guarantor of the country's neutral status, Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said on Saturday. The diplomat made these remarks after meeting his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov in Baku. "Italy is working non-stop to put this conflict to an end through sanctions and without ever giving up the diplomatic channels. Comment: Sanctioning Russia won't help end the conflict, it will however help hasten the West's demise, which, in a roundabout way, might help end the conflict. The continuation of negotiations between the parties and a humanitarian truce are priorities," Di Maio stated, acknowledging that "progress" was made during Russia-Ukraine talks in Turkey earlier this week.

Saudi Arabia agrees to two-month truce with Yemen - UN
The warring sides in Yemen's seven-year conflict have agreed to a two-month nationwide truce, starting with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, the United Nations envoy has said. Comment: It's not so much a 'conflict' as it is Saudi Arabia's billion dollar, western-backed, failed coup attempt in Yemen that has resulted in what the UN called the world's worst humanitarian catastrophe. The UN-brokered deal on Friday between a Saudi-led coalition and the rebel Houthi group aligned with Iran is the most significant step yet towards ending a conflict that has killed tens of thousands and pushed millions into hunger. The last coordinated cessation of hostilities nationwide was during peace talks in 2016. Comment: It has actually killed hundreds of thousands, 377,000, 70% of whom were children under 5 years old, as Qatar-owned Al Jazeera admits further below. UN special envoy Hans Grundberg said the two-month truce would come into effect at 7pm local time (16:00 GMT) on Saturday and could...

Ukraine claims it stopped recruiting foreigners because it's running out of weapons and they're too inexperienced
Ukraine's 'International Legion' no longer wants foreign recruits to fight Russia, a spokesman told Canada's National Post on Friday. Despite Kiev once welcoming Westerners with open arms, it has now been revealed that supplies are low, and inexperienced volunteers aren't ready for combat. Volunteers who've already made the journey have told horror stories of being sent to the front lines unarmed and untrained. Following the Russian offensive, videos emerged online of people claiming they joined the fight against Moscow's forces, but were given no ammo or weapons by the Ukrainian side.

BEST OF THE WEB: Putin's popularity CLIMBS in Russia since launch of military operation in Ukraine
A new Russian opinion poll shows that President Vladimir Putin has gotten a boost in ratings since the start of the war in Ukraine. The Levada Center said in a survey released on March 30 that more than 80 percent of Russian respondents support his actions. The poll was the first Levada has conducted since the conflict began on February 24. The survey also showed 83 percent of Russians backing Putin, up from 71 percent in early February. The survey was conducted on March 24-30 in face-to-face interviews with 1,632 Russians across the country. The margin of error was 3.4 percentage points. The findings match up with those of Kremlin-backed, state-funded pollsters, which also showed Putin's approval ratings at above 80 percent.

BEST OF THE WEB: Political Ponerology: The Study of Evil in the Political Realm
Part 1 A little while ago I introduced you to Andrzej Łobaczewski (1921-2007), a Polish psychologist who spent much of his adult life under communism before emigrating to the USA in 1977. I thought you might like to explore with me the observations and ideas that Łobaczewski formulated under oppressive circumstances and at the hand of evil men. This exploration would be in the spirit of gleaning wisdom for our own struggle with oppressive circumstances (as opposed to a mere fascination for a dark time of history) and to understand what Łobaczewski terms political ponerology - the study of evil in the political realm. I don't always agree with Łobaczewski on some aspects of the neurological/psychological side of psychopathology1 that leads to evil, but I have almost 40 years of new data and insight on the brain that Łobaczewski didn't have in 1984 and before. Nevertheless, he had the lived experience - something of immense value for the purposes of insight. These are strange and...

When Hillary Clinton's divine entitlement to the U.S. presidency began to look imperiled in 2016 — first due to the irreverent and unkempt (but surprisingly formidable) Democratic Party primary challenge from Bernie Sanders, the independent socialist Senator from Vermont — her campaign and its media allies invented and unveiled a deeply moving morality tale. A faceless horde of unnamed, uncredentialed, unmannered, violent, abusive and deeply misogynistic online Sanders supporters — dubbed with the gender-emphasizing name "Bernie Bros" even though many were women — were berating, insulting and brutalizing Hillary, her top campaign surrogates (U.S. Senators, former cabinet members, corporate executives), and especially pro-Hillary corporate journalists with a vast artillery of traumatizing words and violent tweets. Judge upholds Ghislaine Maxwell conviction after juror error
A Manhattan judge upheld Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell's conviction on sex-trafficking charges on Friday, after one of the jurors in her trial failed to disclose that he was sexually abused as a child. Maxwell was found guilty in December 2021 of five of six charges, including sex trafficking of a minor, in connection with her longtime friendship with Epstein, who himself was charged with sex trafficking of minors in 2019. One of the jurors later told several media outlets that he was a victim of sexual abuse during childhood, but he had indicated that he was not a victim of sexual abuse on a jury questionnaire before the trial. The man, identified as Juror 50, said he told other jurors about the abuse he experienced during deliberations, in comments to Reuters. However, U.S. Circuit Judge Alison Nathan ultimately concluded that the juror did not intentionally hide his prior experiences.

While you were distracted by Will Smith, the international elitists met at the World Government Summit
While much of the "mainstream" world has spent the last few days obsessing over and debating the celebrity spectacle surrounding American actor Will Smith slapping American comedian Chris Rock, the international elitists were meeting in Dubai for the 2022 World Government Summit. From March 28th to the 30th, corporate media journalists, heads of state, and CEOs of some of the most profitable companies in the world met for discussions on shaping the direction of the next decade and beyond. Anyone with a functioning brain should ignore the tabloids and instead pay attention to this little known gathering of globalist Technocrats. Let's take a look at the speakers and the panels, starting with Mr. Great Reset himself, Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum. Schwab gave a talk entitled, Our World Today... Why Government Must Act Now?. "Thank you, to his excellency for enabling this initiative to define a longer-term narrative to make the world more resilient more inclusive...

Fmr adviser to rapist Harvey Weinstein plays unchecked 'mastermind' role in Biden's Presidency
The Atlantic describes her as the "mastermind" behind Joe Biden's 2020 win. Anita Dunn didn't take a job in the White House after his victory, but she certainly still has a hand in it. So who is Mrs. Dunn and why should you care? Imran Khan takes on America amid alleged regime change attempt
The government in Pakistan has alleged that Sunday's no-confidence motion to oust Prime Minister Imran Khan from power was masterminded in Washington. After a humiliating defeat in Afghanistan and loss of credibility over Ukraine, the era of US unipolarity seems to be entering its terminal phase, marked by lashing out ferociously in all directions. The most recent of these offensives occurred last week when the government of Pakistan alleged that Washington was trying to engineer regime change in Islamabad. This time the US was caught red handed. The claim was not made via a leak or a fringe observer, but by the prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, himself. While the US State Department has denied any involvement, the political drama has only just begun. Emerging from a crucial meeting of Afghanistan's neighbors, China's top diplomat took a public whack at Washington's behavior. Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China will not allow the US to drag smaller nations into conflict...

Ukraine permits mass Russian property seizures
Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) voted on Friday to expand a law which allowed Russian government property to be nationalized by the Ukrainian state. The rule now extends to Russian citizens in Ukraine, those with a "close relation" to Russia, and Ukrainians who publicly support or ignore Moscow's ongoing military operation. The measure passed with 305 out of 450 votes, lawmaker Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced in a Telegram post. President Volodymyr Zelensky last month banned the largest parliamentary opposition party. Comment: And the West claims Ukraine is a democracy?! According to Ekonomichna Pravda, a Ukrainian news outlet, the amendment will allow the Ukrainian government to seize and nationalize the property of Russian citizens in Ukraine, people with "a close relationship" with Russia, and legal entities operating in Ukraine but whose beneficiary is the Russian Federation, or in which the Russian Federation owns shares.
