Snow and wintry weather has returned to parts of Spain with a vengeance
Despite the April Fool's Day jokes about it having snowed on Benidorm's beaches, some of the country did wake up to a blanket of snow this morning On April Fool's Day it's sometimes difficult to tell what is real and what is fake, but despite numerous jokes on social media about it having snowed in Benidorm there is actually a lot of snow in northern and some parts of eastern Spain and the Balearic Islands at the moment. The Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country, La Rioja and, especially, Navarra woke up this morning under a blanket of snow and Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez had to cancel his planned visit to the National Renewable Energy Centre in Sarriguren, Navarra, today. Czech Republic braces for return of wintry weather after 6 inches of snowfall
Spring may have been coming into bloom with temperatures hitting 20 degrees Celsius last weekend, but the Czech Republic will see a last blast of winter over the coming days. Fifteen centimeters of snow were reported in the Jeseníky Mountains this morning. And throughout the country, cold temperatures leading to ice and snow are expected over the weekend, before temperatures rise again from the middle of next week. The cold spell is being caused by air currents from the north and northeast. "It will bring significantly below-average temperatures and the wind will lower the apparent temperature. Beware of icing in the morning, snowdrifts forming in the mountains, and snowfall in the lowlands," meteorologist Dagmar Honsová told Novinky.cz.

Former prosecutor on Hunter Biden: 'Anybody else would have been indicted already'
Former federal prosecutor Brett Tolman joined Fox & Friends First Friday to discuss the GOP calling for an investigation into Hunter Biden's foreign business activities and how this could involve President Biden. Tolman emphasized the need for FISA warrants and a team of lawyers to investigate these claims. The White House Thursday stood by President Biden's past assertion that "nothing unethical" occurred.

Russian TV host trolls the West: Calls for 'regime change' in US - and 'our partner' Trump to be put in power
A Russian TV host called for "regime change" in the U.S., and also for former President Donald Trump to be reinstated. The host, Evgeny Popov, went as far as to refer to Trump as a "partner" to the Russian people. Saturday, while speaking in Warsaw, Poland, President Joe Biden uttered words about Vladimir Putin which required a clarification from the White House. Biden at first stated Putin is a "dictator bent on rebuilding an empire" as his forces continue to attack Ukrainian civilians. "We will have a different future — a brighter future rooted in democracy and principle, hope and light, of decency and dignity, of freedom and possibilities," he said. He then veered off the script and added: "For God's sake, this man can not remain in power."

BEST OF THE WEB: Gold-backed ruble could be a gamechanger - precious metals analyst
The Bank of Russia has resumed gold purchases this week, but more importantly, the regulator is doing so at a fixed price of 5,000 rubles ($59) per 1 gram between March 28 and June 30, raising the possibility of Russia returning to the gold standard for the first time in over a century. If the country takes the next step, as has been proposed this week, to sell its commodities priced in rubles, these combined moves could have huge implications for the ruble, the US dollar, and the global economy. To get some answers, RT spoke to precious metals analyst Ronan Manly at BullionStar Singapore.

Whoopsies! 'Massive ranking failure' meant Facebook showed users nudity, violence, and Russian 'misinformation'
Misinformation and other harmful posts rose in visibility up to 30 per cent globally because of the failure A "massive ranking failure" of Facebook's news feed meant that half of all views were exposed to "integrity risks" over the past six months. A new report from The Verge, based in internal documents from Facebook, suggests that since October 2021 a huge amount of misinformation began surfacing on the news feed. Instead of suppressing accounts that repeatedly shared misinformation, it was instead giving them a boost - up to 30 per cent globally, it is claimed. The engineers were unable to find the cause of the issue, and misinformation surged on the site until 11 March despite it being a high-priority case, according to the report.

Shaken at first, many anti-war Russians now rally behind Putin on Ukraine
The stream of antiwar letters to a St. Petersburg lawmaker has dried up. Some Russians who had criticized the Kremlin have turned into cheerleaders for the war. Those who publicly oppose it have found the word "traitor" scrawled on their apartment door. Five weeks into President Vladimir V. Putin's invasion of Ukraine, there are signs that the Russian public's initial shock has given way to a mix of support for their troops and anger at the West. On television, entertainment shows have been replaced by extra helpings of propaganda, resulting in an around-the-clock barrage of falsehoods about the "Nazis" who run Ukraine and American-funded Ukrainian bioweapons laboratories. Comment: They're not falsehoods, and the NYT knows it. Ukraine is the only European nation where self-declared Nazis form their own militias - incorporated into the national military - and have held or currently hold government positions. And yes, those US-funded biolabs exist. Polls and interviews show that many...

New Scientist has actually published a sympathetic account of Panpsychism
A serious, long form article shows that physicalism ("the mind is just what the brain does") is failing Panpsychism, the view that all nature participates in consciousness, has been growing under the radar for some time in science. But it is now coming into plainer view. New Scientist is one of the last places one might have expected to find a serious, long-form account of panpsychism — one that, in the context, amounts to a defense. Yet that's just what science writer and filmmaker Thomas Lewton has been permitted by the editors to do. He tells us about his own journey at his site: "Studying physics, I thought telescopes and particle colliders would offer firm answers, but instead they raised more questions." And at New Scientist, he tells us why: It can seem as if there is an insurmountable gap between our subjective experience of the world and our attempts to objectively describe it. And yet our brains are made of matter - so, you might think, the states of mind they generate...

Cawthorn blames 'the left and the media' after intra-GOP furor over sex-and-drugs comments
Cawthorn has faced widespread public criticism from congressional Republicans and within the North Carolina GOP following his comments on a podcast. Amid a burgeoning congressional controversy, Rep. Madison Cawthorn on Friday blamed Democrats and the media for amplifying his comments that some of his fellow GOP members engage in orgies and use cocaine. "My comments on a recent podcast appearance calling out corruption have been used by the left and the media to disparage my Republican colleagues and falsely insinuate their involvement in illicit activities," Cawthorn said in a statement without addressing the substance of his own comments directly. "The left and the media want to use my words to divide the GOP. ... I will not back down to the mob, and I will not let them win."

The Nazis of Ukraine
There is an inconvenient truth that those beating the war-drum against Russia love to ignore — namely, the Nazis of Ukraine. We are told that this is all somehow "Russian disinformation/misinformation," or that Putin loves to call people whom he doesn't like, "Nazis" (notice, this is what actually is done in the West against opponents of the elite). Of course, no real evidence is ever given to back up these claims, as has now become a sad habit, any self-righteous assertion is considered "truth." Here are the facts about Nazis in Ukraine. The drumbeaters have yet to disprove any of them. Origins When Hitler invaded Ukraine, for many it was a liberation from communism and openly celebrated, and soon led to the creation of the 14th SS-Volunteer Division "Galician" (later, the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS, 1st Galician). It was nearly annihilated in the Lvov-Sandomierz Offensive (1944). What remained was regrouped as the Ukrainian National Army (UNA), under the German High...

Western media bands together to white-wash Ukrainian Neo-Nazis
Multiple outlets use the same talking points, quotes, and 'experts' to whitewash Ukraine's notorious "Azov" regiment During the last week of March, multiple major media outlets in the UK and the US ran stories about Ukraine's 'Azov Battalion', seeking to whitewash almost a decade of previous reporting that clearly identified the unit's Nazi sympathies and ethos. Supposedly acting independently, they nonetheless stuck to the same talking points and often the same verbiage, suggesting a concerted effort to spin the unit as heroic defenders of Ukraine against the alleged "real" fascists — the Russians. The latest wave of the lionization of Azov began sometime before the Russian military operation - notorious was the much-publicized image of an AK-47-wielding Ukrainian granny training to repel invaders in the regiment's camp. The last week of March, however, saw the puff pieces come in a tight group, like the bullet holes after an AK burst.

Conflicts in Priti Patel's power over Assange
Priti Patel sat on the Henry Jackson Society's (HJS) advisory council from around 2013-16, although the exact dates are unclear as neither the HJS nor Patel responded to Declassified's requests for clarification. She has also received funds from the HJS, and was paid £2,500 by the group to visit Washington in March 2013 to attend a "security" program in the U.S. Congress. Patel, who became an MP in 2010 and was appointed home secretary in 2019, also hosted an HJS event in parliament soon after she returned from Washington. After the U.K. Supreme Court said this month it was refusing to hear Assange's appeal of a High Court decision against him, the WikiLeaks founder's fate now lies in Patel's hands. He faces life in prison in the U.S. The Henry Jackson Society, which was founded in 2005 and does not disclose its funders, has links to the C.I.A., the intelligence agency behind the prosecution of Julian Assange and which reportedly developed plans to assassinate him. Harris walks back Biden's regime change comments after minutes of ducking the question
Vice President Kamala Harris walked back President Joe Biden's apparent call for regime change after minutes of dodging the question on The ReidOut Friday. Biden said Russian President Vladimir Putin "cannot remain in power" during his Saturday speech in Warsaw, Poland. The White House then denied the administration's calls for regime change, claiming the president argued that "Putin cannot be allowed to exercise power over his neighbors of the region." MSNBC host Joy Reid asked Harris if she agrees with the president's previous statement. "Listen, I think that you frame the point quite accurately and well," Harris began. "That America's policy has been and will continue to be focused on the real issue at hand which is one, the needs of the Ukrainian people, which we will continue to support through humanitarian assistance and security assistance. But also insuring that there's going to be serious consequences for Vladimir Putin and Russian aggression as it relates to Ukraine."

University of Toronto drops vaccine mandate after being hit with human rights complaint
Roughly a month after a group of University of Toronto faculty submitted a formal human rights complaint seeking an end to the school's vaccine mandate, the university announced it will be rescinding its COVID-related policies. A group of faculty members revealed in a press release earlier this month: "University of Toronto staff, students, and faculty presented a letter to the University of Toronto's top administrators on February 16, 2022, prepared by counsel Mr. Courtney Betty and Mr. Glyn Hotz and sent on behalf of individuals affected by the university's vaccination mandates. The letter outlines claims of the affected parties, many of whom have already been placed on 12-months unpaid leave, intend to make in a pending Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario Group Application. These claims are now being filed." Less than two weeks after the complaint was filed, the University of Toronto updated its so-called COVID health guidelines, announcing that they will no longer be enforcing...

US envoy says Israel's 'hands not tied' on Iran, even if nuke deal signed
US Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides said on Thursday Israel won't be faced with any American restrictions if it wishes to act against Iran, whether or not a nuclear deal is signed between Tehran and world powers. Asked in a Channel 12 interview if the US expects Israel to "sit quietly and not do anything" if a deal is signed, Nides replied: "Absolutely not. We've been very clear about this. If we have a deal, the Israelis' hands are not tied. If we don't have a deal, the Israelis' hands are certainly not tied. Israel can do and take whatever actions they need to take to protect the state of Israel. "The president will do whatever he can do to make sure that Iran does not have a nuclear weapon... It's clear we'd like to do it through a diplomatic channel." Regarding the progress of the negotiations on a deal, he said: "The Israelis know very clearly exactly what is going on. I'm not suggesting they necessarily like it always, but there are no secrets here." Nides dodged a direct...

Russia tells OSCE to leave Ukraine
The Russian Foreign Ministry has called on the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Secretariat "to immediately launch measures for winding down" its Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) in Ukraine. Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a lengthy statement on Friday that "in the current political and legal realities," the mission cannot work in accordance with the previous mandate anymore. It expired on Thursday and covered the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, now recognized by Russia as independent states. Zakharova wrote: "This means that its further activities do not have the consensus support of the participating States and, therefore, cannot be carried out de jure. We urge the OSCE Secretariat to immediately begin measures to wind down the SMM, sell its property, terminate employment contracts with its personnel, and settle contractual obligations to service providers and landlords." "The biggest asset bubble in US history" Mark Spiegel eviscerates Fed Policy and Tesla
Mark's March 2022 investor letter doesn't pull any punches. Friend of Fringe Finance Mark B. Spiegel of Stanphyl Capital released his most recent investor letter yesterday with his updated take on the market's valuation and Tesla. Mark is a recurring guest on my podcast (and will be coming back on again soon hopefully) and definitely one of Wall Street's iconoclasts. I read every letter he publishes and only recently thought it would be a great idea to share them with my readers. Like many of my friends/guests, he's the type of voice that gets little coverage in the mainstream media, which, in my opinion, makes him someone worth listening to twice as closely. Mark was kind enough to allow me to share his thoughts from his March 2022 investor letter, which he published on March 31, 2022. Mark opened by calling the meme stock rally of the last few days "a fierce bear market rally of garbage stocks". What follows is Mark's take, from his letter, on the Fed and Tesla - and several...

Manchin: Biden's repeal of Title 42 order 'a frightening decision'
Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) on Friday slammed President Biden's decision to rescind Title 42, a Trump-era health order used to rapidly deport people who cross the border without authorization. Manchin said in a statement after Biden's announcement: "Today's announcement by the CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] and the Biden Administration is a frightening decision. Title 42 has been an essential tool in combatting the spread of COVID-19 and controlling the influx of migrants at our southern border. We are already facing an unprecedented increase in migrants this year, and that will only get worse if the Administration ends the Title 42 policy." His office noted that U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced a record 1.7 million migrant encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border in 2021, a number four times higher than what was reported in 2020.

Ex-UN prosecutor urges global arrest warrant for Putin
The former chief prosecutor of United Nations war crimes tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda has called for an international arrest warrant to be issued for Russian President Vladimir Putin. "Putin is a war criminal," Carla Del Ponte told the Swiss newspaper Le Temps in an interview published Saturday. In interviews given to Swiss media to mark the release of her latest book, the Swiss lawyer who oversaw U.N. investigations in Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia said there were clear war crimes being committed in Ukraine. She said she was particularly shocked by the use of mass graves in Russia's war on Ukraine, which recalls the worst of the wars in the former Yugoslavia. She told the newspaper Blick: "I hoped never to see mass graves again. These dead people have loved ones who don't even know what's become of them. That is unacceptable." Comment: Perhaps Del Ponte should have been referring to: Spinning in the (mass) grave: Western media dig dirt to cover Kiev's...

Defense Department to send Ukraine $300 million in additional military equipment
The Department of Defense will provide up to $300 million in security assistance and equipment to Ukraine as the nation continues to rally against Russian forces, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby announced Friday. Why it matters: The move comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Wednesday that Russia's invasion has reached a "turning point," and that he had spoken with President Biden about Ukrainian forces needing more military help. Driving the news: The new package includes laser-guided rocket systems, unmanned aircraft, armored vehicles, night vision devices tactical secure communications systems, ammunition and medical supplies. What he's saying: "This decision underscores the United States' unwavering commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity in support of its heroic efforts to repel Russia's war of choice." April Fools... U.S. boosts import of Russian oil while urging world to impose ruinous sanctions
The contradictions that stem from American and European arrogance have finally hit breaking point. The United States reportedly boosted its import of Russian oil last month, according to official figures from the Energy Information Administration. The extra imported volume accounted for a 43 percent increase. This is in spite of an executive order by U.S. President Joe Biden on March 8 to ban all energy and hydrocarbon commodities from Russia. That draconian measure was declared in response to Russia's military intervention in Ukraine that was launched on February 24. Admittedly, the United States does not rely heavily on Russia for its crude oil supply. Russia is not in the top five suppliers to the U.S., according to the EIA. Nevertheless, the apparent ramping up of U.S. purchase of Russian oil strikes a bizarre chord. It comes as Washington is demanding European allies to cut energy trade with Russia. And it's not just the Europeans that are being ordered to do so. India and...
