Two grass fires were sparked in Colorado on Thursday morning after strong winds caused power lines to fall and transformers to explode

Almost 600 homes have been destroyed, Boulder County sheriff said, and dramatic footage showed an apartment block in Superior going up in flames 

Joe Pelle, the sheriff, said approximately 370 homes have been lost in the Sagamore subdivision, just west of Superior, and 210 in Old Town Superior, in addition to the Target store and Element hotel 

Residents of Superior, home to 12,500, and Louisville, population 21,000, have been evacuated as the fires continue, with the Marshall Fire threatening the town and affecting an estimated 1,600 acres  

XCel Energy Colorado reported that 22,500 people were without power at of 10:30pm local time in Colorado

Roads have been closed as high wind have blown several vehicles over and Denver International Airport temporarily halted flights 

Colorado Governor Jared Polis declared a state of emergency

Firefighters on Thursday night were trying their best to preserve homes in the line of a fast-moving wildfire, which has shocked the state at a time when the ground should usually be thick with December snow.

The Marshall Fire, just south of Boulder, was sparked by extreme winds gusting over 100mph, which knocked down power lines and sparked a fire.

A second fire on Thursday, the Middle Fork Fire, begun at 10:30am north of Boulder, but was brought under control by mid afternoon, and did not burn any structures.

HOLLY NOTE: This wildfire is about 2 hours northwest of us. Early assessments say power lines came down in 115mph wind gusts and ignited the parched ground.

Never have we been so grateful that power lines here in Pueblo West are buried. However, in Pueblo, the city about 20 minutes east of us, their lines are exposed.

Firefighters had no time to work on the fire because their sole job was to get people out. The other factor is that it's impossible to make any progress against that strong wind power, which lasted 7 hours. People had basically no notification, no warning, so they had no time to take anything. At least 7 people have been hospitalized and the Boulder Cty. Sheriff warned that come daylight, they may find bodies.

The raging fire moved at a shocking rate. According to Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle, the fire was "consuming football-field lengths of land in seconds." Tens of thousands are without power and 3 evac centers have been opened. This is tricky now with Omicron fears and trying to keep people socially distanced.

Adding to their misery are frigid nighttime temps. A snowstorm is expected to hit Saturday, which may help extinguish the flames.

The blaze northwest of Superior was one of several fires that started in the area Thursday, with at least some sparked by downed powerlines, as winds have gusted up to 105 mph (169 kph), according to the National Weather Service.

On top of that, the Covid vaccines in question are NOT fully approved by the FDA. Instead, they are still being issued under the agency’s Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) because the vaccine (Comirnaty) that was granted full approval is not being administered in the US as of now.

In other words, these pilots who take the rushed EUA vaccine would traditionally lose their ability to fly, but the FAA is clearing them anyway – after just two days.
