Of the four sections, three have been completed, and the last one will be operational by spring 2024.

Why is it so important? First, the width of the roadbed is 1520 mm, which is the Russian standard. Secondly, many observers feared how the railroad would have to be built through Afghanistan - in fact, the Taliban has taken under guard not only the builders from Iran, but also the entire section of the road from Herat to the Iranian border. This is part of the 992-kilometer-long route from Herat to Tehran - and even though only 120 kilometers of this road passes through Afghan territory, it means Afghanistan's inclusion in the unified economic system of the North-South transport route.

And this is a somewhat different economic reality. Not the one that you and I, Iran, and especially Afghanistan are accustomed to - the Taliban were not invited or invited anywhere at all.
