Tokens in an LLM aren't words; they're fragments.

It's easy to assume a model reads sentences the way people do, one word at a time.

It doesn't. Text gets broken into tokens first, and a token can be a whole word, part of a word, or even just a punctuation mark, depending on how the tokenizer splits it.

That's why the same sentence can cost different amounts to process depending on phrasing, and why some prompts behave unpredictably in ways that have nothing to do with meaning.

Understanding tokens isn't trivia. It's the first layer beneath everything a model does.

The fastest provider to deploy isn't always the cheapest later.

Fast onboarding feels like a win. Sign up, get access, start deploying within minutes.

But speed to start says nothing about pricing structure over time: renewal rates, egress fees, or minimum commitments that only become visible after you're already running production workloads on that provider.

The fastest provider to get started with and the most cost-effective one to stay with are sometimes the same. They're not the same by default.

Most teams lock in a compute contract and don't revisit it until it's about to expire.

Disaster recovery plans rarely include the AI stack.

Traditional disaster recovery planning covers databases, applications, and core infrastructure. It was written before AI workloads became part of daily operations.

If a model, an agent pipeline, or an inference endpoint goes down, many recovery plans simply don't account for it, because it wasn't part of the stack when the plan was written.

As AI becomes operational infrastructure rather than an experiment, it needs to be treated like infrastructure in recovery planning too, not left as an afterthought nobody's updated the runbook for.
