In less than a month, you have helped us raise the funds needed to pay for a lawyer for the anarchist Ruslan Siddiqui. Investigations into Ruslan's case are continuing and we realise that this fundraiser will not be the last. We are unbelievably grateful to every single donor, and to everyone who reposted!

We remind you that Ruslan was arrested in late November 2023 under suspicion of blowing up railways in Ryazan district, causing 19 goods wagons to come off the rails. Siddiqui was charged under the articles for committing an "act of terrorism" and "possessing explosive devices."
In December the anarchist faced new charges connected with a drone attack on the military aerodrome of Dyagilevo in Ryazan district, and also with preparing another explosion on the railways. The investigators charged him under the articles on "attempting an act of terrorism and preparing an act of terrorism".
In early June the anarchist was faced with yet more charges — for "studying in preparation for terrorist activity" (article 205.3 Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and "circulation of explosive devices by an organised group" (part 4, article 222.1 Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
Until this charge Ruslan would have faced between 12 and 30 years behind bars. However, he now faces an unlimited sentence, up to a life sentence. The article on "studying terrorism" carries a harsher penalty than an "act of terrorism" itself - from 15 years to life imprisonment. The formulation of the article allows the security services to add it onto the main charge. As a consequence, defendants can end up with longer sentences for "studying" than for the acts themselves.
Ruslan does not consider his actions to be acts of terrorism. He points out that his aim was to damage military infrastructure. Sidiqi carried out his actions in order to avoid harming people. This contradicts the formulation of the article on "acts of terrorism", one of whose fundamental characteristics is terrorising the population.

❗️ Rouslan Sidiki talks about his torture

The Solidarity zone team learned that Rouslan Sidiki had been tortured after his detention almost as soon as the independent lawyer began work. However, it was important to obtain documentary evidence of the mutilation that was observed when he entered the SIZO (pre-trial detention centre). Now, some months later, his lawyer Igor Popovsky has now managed obtain that document.
From the report on the medical investigation:
"Multiple infected exposed wounds on the scalp and both wrists. Injuries to soft tissues on the left side around the eye. Injuries to soft tissues, resolving spinal haematomas."
From the lawyer's interview with Rouslan Sidiki:
"A man who looked around 50 years old, wearing civilian clothing, began to say that if I did not immediately confess to causing the explosion, then they would take me out of the city and would frame me for attempted flight, so they would legally be allowed to shoot me, and that they would torture me first.
Once I had agreed to cooperate and give testimony, they asked me if I had any chronic illnesses. After I responded 'no', one of them hit me over the head and I fell to the floor.
There were no fewer than six people in the interrogation room at that moment.While I lay on the floor, they stepped on my hands and feet so that I couldn't move them, although I didn't offer any kind of resistance. They exposed part of my legs in the area of my ankles, and I felt that they were tying something to me [...] later one of them said to someone, 'Ring!'
From that moment an electric current was discharged through my body, making my muscles contract violently from the unbearable pain. I screamed and hit my head against the floor. One of them stood in front of me and was filming me on their telephone. Because I was screaming, they gagged my mouth [...] I cannot say exactly how long the torture lasted, as after a few electric shocks I was slipping out of consciousness, but I can say that it was unbearably painful.
In between the discharges, unidentified people asked me questions, and if my answer did not satisfy them, then they continued to shock me. [...] they asked if I was planning another explosion, and I answered that I was not, and after that they continued to torture me. I was already on the brink, and understood, that in order to stop them I would have to say at least something."
Rouslan Sidiki and his lawyer Igor Popovsky sent their reports about the crimes committed to the chair of the Investigative Committee, demanding "to bring to justice those individuals who inflicted upon R. K. Sidiki physical and moral abuse, threats, blackmail, and also torture, following his arrest, in order to force him to give testimony."
To recap, Rouslan Sidiki is an anarchist from Ryazan, and a citizen of Russia and Italy. He is charged with blowing up railways, drone attacks on the military aerodrome Dyagilevo, and also with preparation for another act of sabotage on the railways. Sidiki is charged under the articles on "acts of terrorism", "studying in order to carry out terrorist activity", and also with the use of explosive devices. Taking the charges together, the anarchist faces from 15 to 30 years or life imprisonment.
Rouslan does not consider his actions — the detonation of the rails under a goods train and the drone attack on the military aerodrome — to be acts of terrorism. He says that his aim was to damage military infrastructure. Sidiki acted in order to prevent harm to people.

From the very beginning women were predominant in the Solidarity zone collective, and women are still in the majority now. We mention this because we can see that women are not given sufficient visibility in human rights activism.
On unseen women’s activism read in the following posts.
We call on the media, and also on our colleagues in human rights organizations to raise the visibility of women, to invite women experts and to insist on equal representation in practice and not just in theory!

For Yuri Mikheev’s defence, we need another €900
The antifascist Yuri Mikheev is the youngest prisoner supported by Solidarity zone. Eighteen-year-old Yuri was arrested, with another person, on 10 November 2023 at a military property in the Moscow region. The Federal Security Service (FSB) have accused these young people of planning to set fire to military equipment. A case has been opened under the Article of the Criminal Code on “preparation of an act of sabotage”. Yuri faces up to ten years’ imprisonment.
From the first few days after Yuri’s arrest, Solidarity zone has given him all-round support, including paying for a lawyer to represent him. In May, we launched a second fundraiser to pay for the defence attorney’s work over a six-month period. Most of the necessary sum has been raised and paid, but we need to raise a further €900 to complete payment up to November.
Yuri Mikheev is a prisoner of wartime. If Russia had not invaded Ukraine, this case would never have happened. For Yuri, a lawyer brings not only a chance to reduce his probable sentence, but also some protection from the arbitrary terror of the security services, from pressure and from torture.

Minusinsk jail
Since late 2023 no fewer than three anti-war prisoners have been sent to Minusinsk high-security prison. In the following posts we will tell you about the history of the prison, its population and the people who have ended up there for their acts of protest against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Igor Paskar's story
Igor Paskar was one of the first political prisoners to be supported by Solidarity zone. He has been sentenced to eight-and-a-half years’ of imprisonment for two anti-war actions. In September Igor’s sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court. Now, he can only expect to be released before 2030 if there is a substantial change in the political situation in Russia.

Vladimir Zolotaryov has been sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment for setting a fire on the porch of the National Guard offices at Komsomolsk-on-Amur. Zolotaryov intended this as a protest, to draw attention to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

26 и 27 октября в Амстердаме проходит Анархистская книжная ярмарка, во время которой также будут различные презентации и воркшопы от горизонтальных коллективов со всего мира.
«Зона солидарности» займёт столик на ярмарке, где можно будет приобрести наши футболки, шарфы, постеры, зины и другой мерч.
А в воскресенье мы выступим с презентацией. Мы считаем нелогичным рассматривать внутреннее партизанское сопротивление в России отдельно от более широкого контекста. Поэтому мы опишем колониальное влияние России на соседние территории, политические союзы с другими диктатурами и то, как российский режим влияет не только на сообщества внутри страны, но и на товарище_к в Восточной Европе, на Кавказе и в Центральной Азии. Мы затронем историю сопротивления и репрессий и рассмотрим причины провала протестов. Также мы подумаем о возможностях для действий из разных мест.

On October 26 and 27, the Anarchist Book Fair is taking place in Amsterdam; in addition to books, various horizontal groups will give presentations and workshops on these days.
Solidarity zone will take a table at the fair, where you can buy our T-shirts, scarves, posters, zines and other merch.
And on Sunday we will make a presentation. We think it's illogical to consider internal partisan resistance in russia separately from the broader context. We will therefore describe russia's colonial influence on neighbouring territories, political alliances with other dictatorships and how the russian regime affects not only communities at home but also comrades in eastern Europe, the Caucasus and central Asia. We will touch on the history of resistance and repressions and examine the reasons for the failure of protest. Not least, we'll offer opportunities for action on the ground.
Come to our presentation if you are in Amsterdam! Discussion will be held in English.

Here we continue the story of the prisons in which political prisoners convicted of taking anti-war actions are serving their sentences.
The federal state institution T-2 of the Vladimir region directorate of the federal penitentiary service, better known as Vladimir Central, became famous not only because of the song by Mikhail Krug of the same name, but also thanks to its own history and political background. At some point it became, in the first place, a prison for those convicted of political offences. Well-known activists and human rights defenders were incarcerated in the “Central”. You can read about Vladimir Central’s history, its inmates’ suffering, and about the political prisoners confined there now, on the cards.
