The Heroes of the Iliad as Indo-European Gods: A Mythological Rosetta Stone
Part 2 of 9: Menelaus
Part 2. This section is the linchpin of the series as Mitra is the linchpin of the divine society. Menelaus has hidden depths, and this is where you start to see the pattern.
-O’Gravy, The Sun Riders
“Just as Mitra and Varuna form a divine pair who alternate as sovereigns, so Menelaus is Agamemnon's younger brother, both kings in their own right.”
“When they face off, Menelaus throws his spear at Paris. It goes through his shield, but Paris is rescued by Aphrodite before he can be killed…Crucially, the Vedic Yudhishthira is known as one so skilled with a spear that he can throw it through solid stone as if it was paper, exactly as Lleu actually does.”
“Lleu Llaw Gyffes' myth is so identical in every part to the story of Menelaus that it begins to seem like it may have been a direct borrowing by the Welsh from the Iliad [...]”

India and Iran on the one hand, Italy and Gaul on the other, preserved in common certain religious traditions, thanks to the fact that these four countries were the only ones in the Indo-European domain to possess classes of priests. Despite striking differences, brahmans, druids, or pontiffs [and] priests of Vedism.. all have this in common, that they maintained an ancient tradition. These priestly organisations imply a ritual, a liturgy of sacrifice, in short a collection of practises, of those which are usually least adaptable to evolution. There can be no liturgy or ritual without sacred objects whose names are preserved, without prayers which are repeated unchanged.

Part 3 of 9: Ajax
In this part we find the Lord of Wind in the hero Ajax, always the largest and strongest god as he is the god of the life-breath.
- O’Gravy, The Sun Riders
“Ajax is known to be so powerful and courageous that when it comes time to draw lots to face Hector in single combat, Ajax steps forward and all the Achaeans pray that he will be chosen, and only Diomedes or Agamemnon may suffice if it is not him. He is chosen and greets the news with joy, and thus we get the formalized bout between the two bafflingly powerful heroes in which Ajax fights Hector to a draw and they exchange gifts...”

The Baltic-Pontic solution. This solution argues that a PIE linguistic continuum already exised during the Mesolithic, i.e., c 8500-5000 BCE, in the area between the Baltic and Black/Caspian seas. The Neolithic cultures that emerge across this enormous region are then ancestral to their respective regional IE stocks, e.g., the northwest IE languages emerge in the TRE culture of the north European plain, while Indo-Iranian develops in the steppe lands of the Ukraine and south Russia and pushes eastwards into Asia.

One of the panels from the Gundestrup caldron, considered a Celtic work, found in Denmark. This scene has been suggested by some to represent reincarnating warriors. This mirrors the famous quote by Julius Caesar on the Gauls, in reference to the Druids and warrior class, from his work The Gallic War:
“The principal point of their doctrine is that the soul does not die and that after death it passes from one body into another ... a firm belief in the indestructibility of the human soul, which, merely passes at death from one tenement to another; for by such doctrine alone, they say, which robs death of all its terrors, can the highest form of human courage be developed.”

Part 4 of 9: Achilles
The Thunderer is the warrior god of Skill, and around him circles the question of Dharma, Virtue, Honor.
- O’Gravy, The Sun Riders
“...both Arjuna and Achilles are famous for their mourning over another warrior's death, a warrior who is beloved by and tied closely to them. For Achilles this is Patroclus, Achilles' comrade from youth, but for Arjuna it is actually his son, Abhimanyu. The general parallel has been noted before, but it can actually be seen that this is not merely a vague similarity, but that the same story is here being told.”

Principles of Permaculture:
Permaculture: an integrated, evolving system of perennial or self-perpetuating plant and animal species useful to man, - David Holmgren
Permaculture derives from “permanent culture”. In comparison to agriculture, the goal of Permaculture is to create a sustainable permanent system. In Permaculture, you learn how to work with nature rather than against. The goal is to create a system that is sustainable, productive and in symbiosis with nature. It is as much a philosophy as a system. It is about self-reliance, biodiversity, cleaner waters, healthier soil and most important of all - healthier humans. Permaculture offers an intelligent way of designing and planning a garden, whether it is a communal garden or private land.
A biodiverse flora will encourage a more multifarious fauna. Keeping the natural ecosystem functioning and healthy is of great importance to humanity, as greater species diversity encourages natural sustainability.
When planning any sort of Permaculture garden/food forest/urban garden etc, the key aspects would be to use an ethical framework. You observe - to understand how nature works. From this, you may decide which approach to take. Mimicking natural patterns and behaviour is key. The plants you grow should nourish and support each other. Permaculture is as much about food as it is about a way of life.
You might make an argument that Permaculture is a tangible solution to the detrimental consequences of agriculture and modernity. Modern GMOs, pesticides and antibiotics are all concepts that are foreign to a Permaculture lifestyle. Permaculture seeks to change the system, and in many ways is an anti-globalism concept. To live sustainably, it would not be reasonable to rely on import, but rather local resources. By adopting a Permaculture lifestyle, we can transition from being a dependent consumer to becoming a responsible producer. The more you produce, the more you can share with your local community.
Imagine your garden being filled with nourishing vegetables, nuts, fruits and herbs. Food is the real currency. A garden is a useful legacy to leave behind for your children.
The Australian environmental designer David Holmgren first formed the Permaculture concept with Bill Mollison. In his book: “Permaculture Principles and Pathways Beyond Sustainability” you can find the 12 principles of Permaculture:
•Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
•Make hay while the sun shines
•You can’t work on an empty stomach
•The sins of the fathers are visited by the children unto the seventh generation
•Let nature take it’s course
•A stitch in time saves nine
•Can’t see the wood for the trees
•Many hands make light work
•The bigger they are the harder they fall. Slow and steady wins the race.
•Don’t put all your eggs in one basket
•Don’t think you are on the right track just because it is a well-beaten path
•Vision is not seeing things as they are but as they will be
