⚫️ پروفسور Braja M. Das استاد بازنشسته دانشگاه ایالتی کالیفرنیا در ساکرامنتو و از مولفین برجسته کتب آموزشی در زمینه مهندسی ژئوتکنیک در تاریخ 5 آوریل 2023 درگذشت. بسیاری از دانشجویان و دانش‌آموختگان مهندسی عمران و البته ژئوتکنیک، ایشان را با کتابهای مکانیک خاک، مهندسی پی، دینامیک خاک و ... می‌شناسند که برخی از آنها به فارسی نیز ترجمه و در دانشگاههای مختلف ایران و البته در سراسر دنیا تدریس می‌شوند🖤

به شخصه کتاب دینامیک خاک تالیفی ایشان را به مدت طولانی به عنوان مرجع درسی برای دانشجویان ارشد ژئوتکنیک و زلزله معرفی و تدریس کرده‌ام. به‌نظرم مرجع آموزشی بسیار خوبی است و مفاهیم را به روشی بسیار ساده و قابل درک بیان نموده است.

Dear Colleagues:

On behalf of Janice F. Das, I am letting you know with profound sadness that Professor Braja M. Das passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at his home in Henderson, Nevada. The geotechnical community in the US and worldwide has lost an icon – a great educator, a prolific author, a lifelong mentor, and above all, a compassionate human being. Braja is survived by his wife Janice; daughter Valerie Stephan (Joe), granddaughter Elizabeth Stephan, and sister Renuka Mohanty in India. A short bio is given below.

Dr. Braja Das is Dean Emeritus of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at California State University, Sacramento. He received his B.Sc. degree with honors in Physics and B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from Utkal University, India; his M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Iowa, Iowa City; and his Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He is the author/co-author of 16 textbooks and reference books and more than 300 papers. His primary areas of research include shallow foundations, earth anchors, and geosynthetics.

Dr. Das is a Fellow and Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers; a Life Member of the American Society for Engineering Education; and an Emeritus Member of the Stabilization of Geomaterials and Recycled Materials Committee (AKG90) of the Transportation Research Board, National Research Council (Washington DC). He served as the Co-Editor of the Journal of Geotechnical and Geological Engineering (Springer) from 2000 to 2006. From 2007 through 2019, he was the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Geotechnical Engineering (Taylor & Francis, U.K.). Dr. Das has received numerous awards for teaching excellence, including the AMOCO Foundation Award, the AT&T Award for Teaching Excellence from the American Society for Engineering Education, the Ralph Teetor Award from the Society of Automotive Engineers, and the Distinguished Achievement Award for Teaching Excellence from the University of Texas at El Paso.

✅ او دارای تخصص مهندسی ژئوتکنیک است و مدرک دکترای خود را در سال 1972 از دانشگاه ویسکانسین در مدیسون آمریکا دریافت کرده است.

✅ پروفسور داس بیش از سه دهه به عنوان عضو هیات علمی در چندین دانشگاه مختلف فعالیت داشته و در طول تدریسشان، جوایز بسیاری را دریافت کرده است. از جمله این جوایز می توان به موارد زیر اشاره نمود:

✳️ جایزه Distinguished Achievement Award از دانشگاه تگزاس (1983)

✳️ جایزه بنیاد Amoco از دانشگاه تگزاس (1983)

✅ پروفسور داس بیش از 300 مقاله در نشریات مختلف و کنفرانس ها ارائه کرده است. موضوع مقالات ایشان، عمدتا در مورد پی های سطحی و ژئوسنتتیک ها می باشد. ایشان همچنین مطالعات بنیادی در مورد ظرفیت باربری پی های سطحی روی ماسه تقویت شده با ژئوگرید ارائه کرده است.

✅ ایشان به عنوان عضو هیات تحریریه در ژورنالهای متعددی فعالیت داشته اند. از این جمله میتوان به موارد زیر اشاره کرد:
