Coming to Canada for meetings, a trade show or training? Two questions tell you a lot: who pays you, and what you'll actually do. Hands-on work for a Canadian client usually needs a work permit. Carry a letter from your employer. General information, not legal advice; every case is different.

Express Entry changes on November 3. If you have a job offer, you have until then to act.
IRCC announced today that, from November 3:
→ A job offer in a high-wage occupation earns up to 100 CRS points, with no LMIA required
→ 12+ months of Canadian work in a high-wage occupation adds up to 70 extra points
→ Every score in the pool is recalculated automatically, and draws pause for up to two weeks
What it means for you:
✅ You work in Canada in a listed occupation: your score goes up on its own. Check that your NOC code matches your real duties.
⚠️ Your occupation isn’t on the list: your score stays the same, but your rank likely slips. Category-based draws matter more now.
⏰ You have a job offer that isn’t in your profile yet: add it before November 3.
One warning: more points mean more temptation to cut corners. Never pay for a job offer, and never relabel your job to fit a NOC code. Officers check both.
The full guide has tips for 9 scenarios, including employers, ICT workers, nurses and trades: https://sobirovs.com/news-publications/express-entry-changes-november-2026/

Are high-wage immigration points creating an unfair advantage for certain applicants?
We examine how IRCC currently prioritizes specific high-wage occupations, like physicians and professors, within the federal system.
This shift in Canada immigration rules raises important questions about fairness for those earning below the national median income.

Moving a key employee to Canada? Where they apply from changes the timeline more than most companies expect.
IRCC's posted processing times for a work permit applied for from outside Canada (October 14, 2026 update):
🇺🇸 United States: 6 weeks (it was 2 weeks in late August)
🇬🇧 United Kingdom: 4 weeks
🇮🇳 India: 11 weeks (up from 9)
But the posted number is only part of the story:
→ US and UK citizens can often apply for an Intra-Company Transfer (ICT) work permit at the Canadian border, where a well-prepared file is usually decided the same day.
→ Indian citizens must apply online and usually need biometrics and an upfront medical exam, which IRCC does not count in its posted time. Plan for longer than 11 weeks.
→ If the role is TEER 0 or 1, the Global Skills Strategy targets about 2 weeks for a complete online application. That is a service target, not a guarantee.
