๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ BUSINESS IMMIGRATION UPDATE โ€” 6 October 2026

WORK PERMIT EXTENSION WAIT TIMES ARE NOW PERSONALIZED

โ€ข IRCC now shows an estimated wait based on the date you applied for an in-Canada work permit extension
โ€ข About 202,900 applicants were awaiting decisions as of September 26
โ€ข Also covers PGWPs; the standard "work permit in Canada" option is now for first-time applicants
โ€ข Why it matters: C11 owners, intra-company transferees and key hires need a permit that outlasts the queue

Action: check your estimate, count back from your expiry date, and file early. Tight on time? Ask about maintained status before a gap opens.

She had a PGWP, two kids in school, and five weeks before her permit expired.

She also had a real plan: launch an organic agri-food company in Alberta and help run a franchised restaurant business she co-owns.

The problem? A C11 entrepreneur work permit names one business. She owned 100% of one and 50% of the other.

Here is what we did:

1๏ธโƒฃ Made the company she fully owns the employer, with management services to the second business written into her role.
2๏ธโƒฃ Proved a week-old company was real: incorporation, an incubator, an AAIP agency recommendation, a signed 10-year lease, a paid franchise fee and a federal small business loan.
3๏ธโƒฃ Showed the benefit in numbers: 7 jobs in Year 1 for one business, 17 by Year 3 for the other, and over $200,000 of her own capital.
4๏ธโƒฃ Addressed dual intent directly. Pursuing Alberta PR does not cancel temporary intent under IRPA s. 22(2).
5๏ธโƒฃ Filed before expiry so she kept maintained status, and included her children so school was never at risk.

IRCC approved her C11.

Is Alberta's Rural Entrepreneur Stream the best business immigration route in Canada right now?

$300,000 net worth, $100,000 investment, CLB 4 English, and no job creation if you buy a business. The catch: you must own 100% of it, in a participating rural community.

A C11 work permit can bring you and your business to Canada. On its own, it won't get you PR.

C11 time is self-employment, so it doesn't count for the Canadian Experience Class. Plan your provincial entrepreneur nomination from day one.

Don't ignore the B-tier programs.

They're good options for the right applicant, but harder: higher net worth, tougher language rules, or very few invitations. Here's what to check before you commit.

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ BUSINESS IMMIGRATION UPDATE โ€” 14 October 2026

NEXT LEVELS PLAN IS DUE BY NOVEMBER 1

๐Ÿ”น The 2027โ€“2029 Immigration Levels Plan must be tabled by Nov 1
๐Ÿ”น PM Carney (NYT interview, reported Sept 29): system is "under control"; government weighing a "controlled increase" in population. No numbers given
๐Ÿ”น Current placeholders for 2027: PNP 92,500 (2026: 91,500) ยท temporary arrivals 370,000 (2026: 385,000)
๐Ÿ”น Federal business immigration: 500 a year through 2028 under the current plan

Bottom line: nothing is final until the plan is tabled. Entrepreneurs should get their province choice, net worth documents and business plan ready now.

Coming to Canada for meetings, a trade show or training? Two questions tell you a lot: who pays you, and what you'll actually do. Hands-on work for a Canadian client usually needs a work permit. Carry a letter from your employer. General information, not legal advice; every case is different.

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ BUSINESS IMMIGRATION UPDATE: LMIA PROCESSING TIMES, SEPTEMBER 2026

โ€ข High-wage: 98 business days (up 8 from August)
โ€ข Low-wage: 82 days (unchanged)
โ€ข Permanent-resident stream: 79 days (down from 156)
โ€ข Global Talent: 9 days (down 1)
โ€ข Agricultural: 22 days (down 3)

What it means: if you need a key hire in Canada, count back at least four months from your start date, and check LMIA-exempt routes (ICT, C11) first.

Express Entry changes on November 3. If you have a job offer, you have until then to act.

IRCC announced today that, from November 3:

โ†’ A job offer in a high-wage occupation earns up to 100 CRS points, with no LMIA required
โ†’ 12+ months of Canadian work in a high-wage occupation adds up to 70 extra points
โ†’ Every score in the pool is recalculated automatically, and draws pause for up to two weeks

What it means for you:

โœ… You work in Canada in a listed occupation: your score goes up on its own. Check that your NOC code matches your real duties.
โš ๏ธ Your occupation isnโ€™t on the list: your score stays the same, but your rank likely slips. Category-based draws matter more now.
โฐ You have a job offer that isnโ€™t in your profile yet: add it before November 3.

One warning: more points mean more temptation to cut corners. Never pay for a job offer, and never relabel your job to fit a NOC code. Officers check both.

IRCC's Favourite Child Is Not You #canadaimmigration #ircc

Are high-wage immigration points creating an unfair advantage for certain applicants?

We examine how IRCC currently prioritizes specific high-wage occupations, like physicians and professors, within the federal system.

This shift in Canada immigration rules raises important questions about fairness for those earning below the national median income.
