What does Canadian residency through business actually cost?

Most people focus on the minimum investment amount and underestimate everything else. Here is the honest picture.

๐Ÿ’ผ Business investment CAD 150,000โ€“300,000 depending on stream and location.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Operational buffer CAD 50,000 to 100,000 above your investment. Not deployed into the business. This is your financial cushion for the early months.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Government fees CAD 5,000โ€“8,500 paid in stages across the process, not all at once.

๐Ÿ  Settlement funds Canada requires liquid funds covering 1.5 years of living expenses. For a family of four, that is approximately CAD 84,000. These must be in your name, must be liquid, and cannot overlap with your investment capital.

Add all four together, and here is what you actually need before you begin:

Total realistic number: CAD 290,000 to 450,000, excluding legal fees.

Planning your finances honestly before you begin is not optional. It is one of the most important things you can do for your application.
IRCC is using AI to screen your application. Are you still preparing yours by hand?

That's a structural disadvantage โ€” before a human even reads your file.

A licensed Canadian immigration lawyer will show you exactly how to use AI safely for Visitor Visa, Study Permit & Work Permit applications. No AI experience needed.

"I thought I needed to invest millions to move to Canada."

We hear this every week. Here is the reality.
Canada's rural and regional entrepreneur streams start at CAD 100,000 in business investment โ€” roughly USD 75,000. That makes it one of the most accessible G7 residency pathways in the world.

For context, the USA EB-5 program requires a minimum of USD 800,000. And that is before legal fees and a wait time that can stretch to 5 years.

Canada asks more of you than a golden visa. But what it gives back โ€” a real passport, public healthcare, world-class education for your children, and a path to full citizenship โ€” is genuinely difficult to match at this investment level.

Curious whether you qualify? Message us for more details.

Canadian immigration changed more in the first 90 days of 2026 than in the previous 3 years combined.

Most entrepreneurs and businesses haven't caught up yet.
Tomorrow, I'm going LIVE with Mariam Jammal to break down the 12 most important changes โ€” in plain English, with practical implications for each one. Link in the comments.

Here's what we're covering:
๐Ÿ“Œ The Start-Up Visa is suspended โ€” and what entrepreneurs should do right now
๐Ÿ“Œ Express Entry overhaul proposals โ€” self-employed? You need to read this
๐Ÿ“Œ ICT work permits now require a physical office โ€” remote-only is disqualified
๐Ÿ“Œ PNP expanded to 91,500 spots โ€” and provinces now have more power than IRCC
๐Ÿ“Œ AI is now screening your immigration file โ€” here's what that means
๐Ÿ“Œ Francophone immigration targets are rising โ€” French speakers have a major edge

We'll also be taking live questions โ€” drop them in the chat.

IRCC is already using AI to review your application. Are you still preparing yours by hand?

Every day, qualified applicants get refused โ€” not because their case was weak, but because of inconsistencies and missing documents an AI-assisted system flags before a human even opens the file.

The gap is real. And it's growing.
This May 21, a licensed Canadian immigration lawyer shows you exactly how to use AI to prepare stronger Visitor Visa, Study Permit, and Work Permit applications โ€” without the mistakes that cost you your visa.

The three highest-risk mistakes we see โ€” and how the entrepreneurs who succeed on this pathway plan for them.

1. Arriving with the minimum investment and no operational buffer. When capital is tight, entrepreneurs make poor decisions under pressure โ€” cheaper location, skipped due diligence, wrong business. Low budget and bad business decisions are directly linked.
2. Misreading the Canadian market. What worked at home does not automatically work in Canada. Consumer behaviour, pricing, purchasing channels, and competitive dynamics are all different. The product is not usually the problem. The market understanding is.
3. Missing Performance Agreement milestones. Your Performance Agreement is a binding legal contract. The numbers in your business plan become legal obligations once you are nominated. Be conservative when setting your commitments โ€” write numbers you are confident you can deliver, not numbers that look impressive.

Most Canadian visa refusals aren't about your qualifications.

They're about clerical errors. Missing documents. Inconsistencies an officer catches in seconds.
AI fixes that โ€” if you know how to use it correctly.

3 reasons AI is changing how applications get approved:

1. Fewer mistakes. Fewer refusals. AI acts as a tireless second reviewer โ€” catching inconsistencies and missing documents before your file reaches a visa officer.
2. Save time and money. Prepare more of your application yourself. Pay a professional just to review it โ€” not to do the work AI can already handle.
3. Better quality. Better odds. Consistent, thorough, organized. Built to match exactly what IRCC expects.
This is exactly what our May 21 live training covers โ€” led by a licensed Canadian immigration lawyer with 13+ years of experience, recognized by Chambers & Partners & The Legal 500.

No prior AI experience needed.

Canadaโ€™s 2026โ€“2028 Immigration Pivot: Fewer Temporary Residents, More Targeted PR

Canada is โ€œclosing the faucetโ€ on immigrationโ€”so what does the new 2026โ€“2028 plan actually mean for people trying to build a future here? In this episode, we dig into why excluding self-employed experience in Canada doesnโ€™t match how todayโ€™s economy works, then break down the governmentโ€™s shift toward slower population growth and more sustainable, targeted immigration. We unpack the headline numbersโ€”temporary residents projected to drop 43% in 2026, a 380,000 PR target drawn largely from candidates already in Canada, and economic class making up 64% of total immigration by 2028โ€”and discuss early impressions now that the plan has been in place for the first four months of the year. Watch the full video for the complete conversation and insights.

Canada just announced it's building a 20-business-day fast track for AI professionals wanting to work here. That's a policy signal worth paying attention to.

Under Canada's new "AI for All" national strategy announced June 4, the government plans to introduce a dedicated AI professional stream under the Global Talent Stream. The target: a 10-day LMIA combined with a 10-day work permit โ€” cutting the standard two-to-six-month processing window down to under a month.

This isn't open yet. But the direction tells you something important about where Canada is placing its bets. While overall immigration targets are being compressed โ€” temporary resident admissions are dropping from 673,000 in 2025 to 385,000 in 2026 โ€” high-skill technology talent is explicitly being carved out for faster access.

For international AI professionals and the Canadian employers trying to hire them, this is the pathway to watch. For entrepreneurs building AI companies: if you're thinking about establishing operations in Canada and bringing your technical team, the combination of this stream plus the C-11 Entrepreneur Work Permit could be a compelling structure once details are finalized.

The program isn't launched yet, so watch for the official IRCC announcement. When it drops, the eligibility criteria and NOC codes will matter enormously.

Are you an AI professional or employer who's been waiting for a faster Canadian immigration option? Let me know in the comments.

๐—” ๐—–๐—ฅ๐—ฆ ๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿต๐Ÿฎ got you invited to apply for permanent residence this week. In a general Express Entry draw, that same score wouldn't have come close.

On July 10, IRCC invited ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ฎ ๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐˜-๐—ผ๐—ณ๐—ณ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿต๐Ÿฎ โ€” while the general Canadian Experience Class round days earlier sat at 517. That gap is the whole story of Express Entry in 2026. Category-based draws are quietly rewriting who has a realistic path, and the deciding factor is often your occupation and Canadian experience, not just raw points.

If you're a professional watching your CRS score and feeling stuck, stop treating one number as your ceiling. Map your work history against the active 2026 categories โ€” senior managers, STEM, healthcare, trades, French speakers. You may qualify for a lane where the bar is dramatically lower than the one you've been staring at.

Congratulations to our senior manager clients who got their ITAs!

Which category do you think you'd fall into โ€” and have you actually checked?

IRCC invited Canadian Experience Class candidates at a CRS cut-off of 516. That is now the 40th draw of 2026, and the trend across all of them is unmistakable: Canadian work experience and provincial nominations are winning. Of nearly 100,000 invitations this year, the lion's share went to people already living and working in Canada or nominated by a province.

For skilled professionals abroad, the honest read is this: a strong rรฉsumรฉ alone rarely clears the bar anymore. The candidates advancing are the ones who found a route to Canadian work experience first โ€” a study-to-work pathway, an employer-supported permit, or a provincial stream aligned to their occupation.

So the question is no longer only "๐˜„๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—บ๐˜† ๐—–๐—ฅ๐—ฆ ๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ?"
