SNHR has documented that at least 996 of the individuals disappeared by the Syrian regime since 2011 were registered as dead in the Civil Registry.

من أساليب التعذيب المشتركة لدى جميع أطراف النزاع في سوريا، التجويع:
يُحرم المحتجز/ المعتقل من جزء أو كامل حصته المعتادة من الطعام كعقوبة له أو لإجباره على الاعتراف مقابل الحصول على الطعام، عادة ما يحصل المعتقلون/ المحتجزون على كميات طعام قليلة طوال مدة اعتقالهم/احتجازهم؛ ما يتسبب بخسارة كبيرة لوزنهم قد تصل لأكثر من 50 كغ للبالغين.

One of the Torture methods used by all the parties to the conflict in Syria is Starvation:
The imprisoned individual/ detainee is deprived of part or all of his/her usual food ration as a punishment or to coerce a confession in exchange for food; even in ‘normal’ circumstance, imprisoned individuals/ detainees are usually given exceedingly small amounts of food throughout the entire duration of their detention, causing a significant weight loss of more than 50 kg among adults.

بحسب قاعدة بيانات الشبكة السورية لحقوق الإنسان فقد وثقنا منذ آذار/ 2011 حتى حزيران/ 2021 مقتل ما لا يقل عن 14537 شخصاً قضوا بسبب التعذيب على يد أطراف النزاع والقوى المسيطرة في سوريا، من بينهم 180 طفلاً و92 سيدة (أنثى بالغة).

Between March 2011 and June 2021, we documented the deaths due to torture of at least 14,537 individuals, including 180 children and 92 women (adult female), at the hands of the parties to the conflict and the controlling forces in Syria, according to the SNHR's database.

لقد مارست جميع أطراف النزاع عمليات التعذيب وإن اختلفت من ناحية الحجم والمنهجية والأساليب، وقد لاحظنا أنها تشترك في العديد منها:
الإنهاك: إجبار المعتقل على أعمال السخرة بعد تعريضه للتعذيب أو حرمانه من الطعام كعقوبة له، كتنظيف الممرات وغسل الملابس والأطباق بشكل متكرر ولساعات طويلة وحمل الأشياء ذات الأوزان الثقيلة ما يتسبب في انهيار جسد المعتقل.

All the parties to the conflict have practiced torture, even if they differ in terms of extent, manner and methods. We have noticed that they share many of the same characteristics:
Exhaustion: The detainee is forced to engage in forced labor, after being subjected to torture and deprived of food, as a punishment, such as cleaning corridors, washing clothes and dishes or carrying heavy objects, often for many hours, which causes the detainee’s already weakened body to collapse.
