How to make Strategic Management a scoring paper?
(If you have appeared for Nov 23 exams)
I know it must be difficult if you could not clear in the last attempt.
But you are CA students, come up even stronger the next time.
Here are a few things you must consider while preparing for May 2024:
1. The subject has changed a lot - 40% amendments.
Study the subject thoroughly.
I know you have studied it multiple times but you need to again go through all the newly added concepts.
I highly encourage you to study the subjects like you’re doing it for the first time. Build your concepts.
2. Practice writing:
“SM is an easy theory paper” is a myth that most students have. If you are also stuck with this thought process you will always find it difficult to clear it.
No matter whether it is a numerical paper or a theory paper, you need to have prior writing practice.
If you’re writing the answer the first time in the exam hall itself you are likely to face challenges.
If not much, at least make sure you practice all the module questions.
3. Three-step revision
We spend days revising numerical subjects. But how much time do we give to papers like Audit, Law, and SM? Isn’t it an injustice?
I ask my students to follow this Three-Step Revision.
First - Just after you complete the chapter.
Second - One month before the exams
Third - On the exam time.
You don’t need more than that. And yes three revisions are possible provided you strategize your studies.
If you were looking for a shortcut, sorry, I don’t have an easy way out.
CA is not meant to be easy. You will have to put in those hours.
However, it is important to have conceptual clarity as well which can make your journey relatively easy.

Why are you stuck in the “May - November Loop”?
(All the possible reasons)
1. Postponing classes
Are recording hi to hai, dekh lenge baad mein.
Most of the students have this attitude which leads to a vicious cycle of procrastination.
Tell me has it ever happened to you? And if yes, were you able to keep up the pace with the schedule?
I have seen students going into depression because they keep postponing the lectures and in the end, they have a stack of syllabus to cover.
Ultimately, you’re left with YouTube videos and marathons.
The best way to cover all classes is to never procrastinate in the first place.
If you’ve decided to complete a class, complete it.
2. Following multiple resources - classes, notes, marathon
Classes kahi or se, notes kis or k, and marathon kisi or ki.
You’re doing an injustice not to your teachers but to yourself.
If you’ve chosen a mentor, trust them and the best way to do is to choose your teacher after all the due diligence.
Still, I won’t criticize only students. Some teachers have managed to create hype about themselves despite not delivering the best value in student’s interests.
What you can do?
> Choose the right mentor in the first place.
> Don’t try to explore all the resources available in the market.
> If needed, only take the help of marathons launched by your teachers.
3. Not covering study material
If your teacher is asking you to leave the Study Material - please leave your teacher.
Check thoroughly if the book you’re studying from is based on the Study Material itself.
No matter how knowledgeable you become, if you can’t answer the questions in the exam hall there is no point in reading anything.
I am saying it again: Please cover the ICAI study material.
