Day 14 CSAT PYQ Series Today, we will be looking at a Maths question. We alternate between RC, LR and Quant PYQs in this series. Try to solve it. Solutions will be provided later today.
Step 1:

Write the equation for the successive changes.

An increase of k% means multiplying by (1 + k/100).

A decrease of k% means multiplying by (1 - k/100).

โ€‹q = p * (1 + k/100) * (1 - k/100) * (1 + k/100) * (1 - k/100)

Step 2:

Group and simplify the terms.

Using the algebra rule (a + b)(a - b) = a^2 - b^2

We can simplify each increase/decrease pair:

(1 + k/100) * (1 - k/100) = 1 - (k^2 / 10000)

Since 10000 is 10^4, we can rewrite this fraction as:
(10^4 - k^2) / 10^4

Step 3:

Combine both pairs.
Because the increase/decrease cycle happens twice,
we multiply the simplified pair by itself:

q = p * [ (10^4 - k^2) / 10^4 ] * [ (10^4 - k^2) / 10^4 ]
โ€‹q = p * [ (10^4 - k^2)^2 / (10^4)^2 ]

Step 4:

Rearrange the equation.
Multiply the denominators:

(10^4)^2 = 10^8
Substitute that back in:
q = p * [ (10^4 - k^2)^2 / 10^8 ]

Multiply both sides by 10^8 to clear the fraction:

q * 10^8 = p(10^4 - k^2)^2

Conclusion:

This matches option (a): p(10^4 - k^2)^2 = q * 10^8

India has 50 MILLION+ pending court cases!

Expanding the Supreme Court to 37 judges (SC Amendment Bill 2026) is a start, but won't magically fix a broken system.

While 10,000+ cases have sat in the SC for over a decade, lower courts are drowning in 50 million unresolved disputes, crippled by thousands of vacant posts.

Why the gridlock?

Delayed appointments, severe staff shortages, and the government itself acting as the country's biggest litigant.

Fast-track courts fail if these core constraints aren't fixed.

1)Time-Bound Appointments: Swiftly filling lower court vacancies.

2)Tech & Infrastructure: Scaling e-Courts Phase III and digital case management.

3)Pre-Litigation Filtering: Expanding mediation to resolve disputes before they reach a judge.

Solution of Day 15

The pattern works by moving backward through the months by an increasing number (0, 1, 2, 3, etc.)

January (move back 0 months) = January

January (move back 1 month) = December

December (move back 2 months) = October

October (move back 3 months) = July (X)

July (move back 4 months) = March

March (move back 5 months) = October

October (move back 6 months) = April (Y)

April (move back 7 months) = September

Therefore, X is July and Y is April.

The correct option is

(b) July, April.

Jharkhand holds ~40% of Indiaโ€™s mineral wealth, yet its mining districts remain among the poorest. Why?
The massive wealth gap and the governance paradox holding the state back, explained:

โ€‹๐—ž๐—ฒ๐˜† ๐—›๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต๐—น๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต๐˜๐˜€

โ€ข Despite holding nearly half the country's mineral wealth, Jharkhand's mining districts remain severely underdeveloped.

The District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT) was created in 2015 to channel mining revenues directly into local development, but on-ground outcomes remain drastically limited.

โ€‹๐—ž๐—ฒ๐˜† ๐—œ๐˜€๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐˜€

Poor Implementation: Low transparency and weak utilization of DMFT funds.

Missed Revenue: Delayed mine auctions are actively reducing royalty collections and killing local employment.

Broken Basics: Mining areas continue to suffer from poor healthcare, education, roads, and livelihoods. Wealth generation is completely failing to translate into inclusive local development.

(The Odisha Contrast)

Despite similar mineral potential, the numbers tell a shocking story:

โ€ข Mining Revenue (2025โ€“26): Odisha at ~โ‚น46,000 crore vs. Jharkhand at only ~โ‚น22,000 crore.

โ€ข Iron Ore Production: Odisha consistently produced ~180 million tonnes (2018โ€“19 to 2024โ€“25), while Jharkhand stagnated around 23 million tonnes annually.

To turn resource wealth into real prosperity, Jharkhand must:
โ€ข Fast-track mine auctions while strictly maintaining environmental safeguards.

Ensure 100% transparent and timely utilization of DMFT funds.

Empower locals by strengthening social audits, Gram Sabha participation, and public disclosure of projects.

Aggressively prioritize health, education, drinking water, and livelihoods.

It is time to balance mineral extraction with sustainable and inclusive development.
