Riding the Fire: An Unconventional Route to Krasny Liman

Recent fires which have blazed in Serebryansky Forest raise a question, do intentional forest fires have military application?

The AFU have used the forest cover south of Kremennaya, in the Serebryansky Forest, to hold back Russian advances in that direction. Large scale fires could be used behind and around enemy postions to force enemy troops to flee defensive positions within forest bands. The exposed forces would make easy targets for Russian aviation and artillery. And riding in the wake of these fires, Russian soldiers could quickly advance westward up to 25 km directly into southern outskirts of Krasny Liman.

Military application of forest fires is not unprecedented in modern history. And though US results in Vietnam largely failed, the conditions there were much less conducive to such an operation. While it would require planning, the potential benefit is tremendous.

As we see, there are valid reasons to set it on fire!

But in its unique case, the Serebryansky forestry, with its ancient settlements dating back to various periods, remained undeveloped and unexplored for agricultural purposes due to the presence of partially swampy terrain.

Multiple layers of settlements indicate a history influenced by water, resulting in the formation of peat and marsh gas. This highly flammable substance, coupled with the pine trees forest, poses a risk of underground fires and explosions even due to natural phenomenons, and particularly during wartime.

The lack of forest cleaning since the start of the ATO in LPR exacerbates the danger, and with activities such as use of wood stoves by AFU servicemen or (the most present one) shelling on their position or using TOS (video), the risk of forest fires increases almost to a certain disaster.

As you may imagine, probably there is no need to set fire intentionally.

Kharkov direction

By noon of the second day of the Russian “operation to create a buffer zone in the border area of ​​the Kharkov region,” it became clear that the AFU had come to his senses and began to try to take measures to resist our troops.

As of yesterday, the Russian group of troops only cleared fields and ruins where there were no serious fortifications of the AFU.

Since the night, AFU has been trying to carry out counter-assault operations, while intensifying indiscriminate shelling of the Belgorod region and sabotage actions.

Despite statements by the General Staff of the AFU about successful counterattacks, the Russian soldiers repulsed the counterattack and moved on.

On the eastern flank, an attack on Volchansk began from three directions. From the village of Gatishche we managed to get hold of the outskirts of the city and reach the first houses of the street Korolenko.

At the same time, from Pletenevka, our troops, along the forest belts, advanced to the outskirts of the old Volchansk airfield and the furniture factory.

The village of Tikhoe, where the prisoners were taken the day before, was cleared. After clearing the settlement, we continued to inflict fire on the positions of the AFU in the Volchansky Khutora continued. At the same time our assault groups advanced along the bed of the Volchaya River along Zarechnaya Street to Volchansk.

According to incoming information, the fighting is shifting towards the center of Volchansk. In the city itself, an evacuation was announced earlier in the day.

And also, battalion tactical groups of the Russian Army reached the Staritsa - Izbitskoye line. There is no progress towards Bugrovatka from Ogurtsovo yet, as well as movement towards Ternovaya.

On the western flank, Russian troops, after repelling counterattacks from the enemy on Strelechye, advanced to the village of Glubokoe. After clearing the settlement, battles broke out for garden community "Lira-1 " - the actual suburb of the city of Liptsy.

The fighting in the vicinity of Morokhovets and Oleynikovo continues.

The village of Lukyantsy was still under the control of the AFU: the group of troops “North” has approached along the bed of the Lipets River, and fighting was taking place on the approaches to the village.

Apparently, the command of the North group of forces made a decision to fragment the Ukrainian group of troops by cutting bridges and cutting off communications. For now, Liptsy and Volchansk are the targets that should be taken first.

Most likely, the first line of consolidation of the Russian army will be built along the line Liptsy - Vesyoloye - Ternovaya - Staritsa - Gatishche - Volchansk.

Taking into account the nearby ravines and forests that are adjacent to the indicated line, the task of the next stage of the offensive could be the occupation of Rubezhnoye and a larger-scale activation from Goptovka.

At the moment, the offensive continues in a limited area: it is still unclear whether active actions will be taken in the direction of Bolshaya Pisarevka and Zolochev, from where attacks on the Russian borderland have been continuously coordinated over the past year and a half.
