Pan-Slavism

What is Pan-Slavism? What are its basic ideas and principles?

Pan-Slavism is an ideology, the basis of which is the unification of the Slavs, Slavic-speaking peoples or countries.
There is also a neo-Slavic movement, which has similar ideas, but puts the equality of all Slavs among themselves as a priority, but Pan-Slavism also allows for similar views as the neo-Slavic.

The term "Pan-Slavism" was first coined in Bohemia by Jan Herkel in 1826. The political views of most Slavic peoples, the Slavic national revival are factors that led to the emergence among Western and Southern Slavs (Josef Dobrovski (Czech), Pavel Šafárik, Jan Kollár (Slovak), Ljudevit Gaj (Croat), Vuk Karadžić (Serb) and others) of ideas of Slavic unity and cultural commonality.

The successes of the Russian Empire in the wars against Turkey and the Napoleonic wars caused some of the Slavic figures to form ideas of political and linguistic unification of the Slavs under Russian rule, believing that this would help the Slavic peoples in their struggle against foreign power (Josef Dobrowski, Josef Jungman, Ludevit Guy and others). Some supporters of pan-Slavism, the main representative of which was Frantisek Palacky, were in favor of preserving the Austrian Empire and transforming it into a federation of Slavs, Austrians and Hungarians.

After the conversion of the Austrian Empire to Austro-Hungary (1867), F. Palacky reconsidered his concept and took part in the Slavic Congress, organized by the Russian pan-Slavists in Moscow in 1867.
