when i was a kid they had this reading program where you would be tested on your literacy level and then assigned a sticker color range that you were allowed to read. by 4th grade i was reading at an 11th grade level and the next year i was reading at 12th grade.
the school library was split between grade school and high school. all of the books that i was permitted (by color sticker) to read were in the highschool section but i was absolutely forbidden to even step into the highschool aisles let alone look at or check out the books. the only books that i was allowed to check out were 11th and 12th grade level books. the only books they had in the grade school section that met the criteria were the left behind series (honestly they were really bad and the theology was abysmal) and a series of unfortunate events, which were absolutely not age appropriate for me at the time.
i wanted to read redwall, which could best be described as "lord of the rings but with animals made for children" but i was not allowed to because it was a "highschool series" despite being much more age appropriate.
looking back on it, the idea that i was only allowed to read a specific selection of books was kinda messed up.
anyways i had to read a book and take a test on it ever other week or so. the problem was that there were no books that i was allowed to check out, so i could not take a test which was mandatory for my english lit grade. my solution was to sneak into the highs school section and find marked books, remember the name, ask my mom to take me to the public library and then check out the book there. i was branded a troublemaker because i got caught doing this often. despite the fact that i was banned from reading the book i could still test on it and get graded so that i could pass my class.
had i not circumvented the rules they would have called me illiterate and failed my lit class.

as an autistic person it really drives me up the wall that there are clearly established societal norms which if I break I get mean mugged and yelled at but for some reason everyone else is allowed to break them with no negative repercussions.
for instance: sometimes at the office i will step into someone's cubicle to have a coversation with them and not realize that they are in an online meeting on their computer. "no, im in a meeting! im busy! get out!"
yet all day, constantly, i'll be in meetings. i'll full screen the meeting window. i'll be ACTIVELY TALKING TO PEOPLE IN THE MEETING. its extremely obvious that im in a meeting. people will still walk up and get my attention. "hey my computer wont print". sure okay ill come over in a minute and handle it, let me just finish this meeting that you just interrupted. "but my computer... it cant print.
okay sure, sorry everyone i guess i have to go now. bob's computer cant print and that is more important than staging the new service upgrade that affects the entire company.

i dont get an insane amount of spam on my skipper.blue domain (benefit of owning a gTLD instead of a common TLD) and i was wondering why all of these emails were coming in with the name sajan bansal.
turns out, despite not much coming up in google results its the first associated name with the domain lmao

adobe acrobat has introduced a new "generate podcast" feature where you can uhh "turn your files into engaging audio conversations"
technology has gone way too far this time. did these people not consider the ramifications of allowing pdf using office workers to "make podcasts"
there has got to be at least one HR demon out there who has used this to turn a sexual harassment training document into a 3 hour ai voice podcast where two spunky millennial women talk about retarded rape scenarios (mandatory listening required)
🍓2🎃1🎅1
im getting really tired of people saying "pdf files" instead of "pedophiles" because at work i have to talk about pdf files and my brain keeps going straight to trump and epstein

it feels a bit consumerist of me to give free advertising to a mega corp but i really like programming games so here are some recommendations:
shapez 2: cozy factorio. factorio without monsters.
the farmer was replaced: you write pseudocode to control a drone to gather crops
shenzhen i/o: write pseudo asm code that generates a required output. its like a test where you have the answers and have to come up with the right question.
TIS-100: the whole premise of shenzhen is based on this game. theyre almost exactly the same. i prefer TIS-100 over shenzhen for its difficulty curve.
net.attack(): not really a coding game because you dont write code. its basically a spell builder like noita but simpler and has a more manageable learning curve

story games:
these are games that focus more on narrative than game play. they are mostly computer/hacker themed puzzle games and require only the most basic understanding of computers to enjoy.
uplink (big recommend if you are into story puzzle games):requires basic understanding of computer networking. it will teach basic cyber attack life cycles.
cyber manhunt: computer knowledge required: has seen one (1) hollywood movie that uses the word "hacker" anywhere in the script.
there are a couple other story puzzle games that look good as well but ive not played them.
i almost forgot the all time best programming game
bitburner (FREE BTW)
this one requires actual skill with javascript. you cannot play this game without learning how to write js. you can learn to write js with this game. it has a LOT of features. the game is sandboxed to keep you from doing exceptionally crazy stuff but people have managed to break the sandbox and just win the game instantly by writing into their live player session. the whole UI is in JS so you can even write you own interface. this game is awesome. i suck at it.
excuse me what

the people who hate copying the most are, once again, engaging in illegal copyright piracy. who could have seen that coming?

daily reminder that the music in the "you wouldnt steal a car" advertisement was used illegally and the rightsholder won in court after suing

problem: you need to run invoke-webrequest on a windows 11 computer and you need to force it to use ipv4 instead of ipv6
there is no direct solution to this. iwr is unable to force ipv4. there is no flag. microsoft is you dad and daddy says you dont need that.

possible indirect solution: use curl -4 [endpoint] instead, as curl was not written by retards and supports forcing v4 natively
new problem: curl is an alias of iwr
solution 1: explicitly call curl.exe
solution 2: just beat microsoft employees with hammers until the gene pool has been purified and the issue will sort itself out when new devs arent retards
