i had installed xanasoft's major privacy tool a while back so i used it to dig into the activities of software on my computer and it was in some ways worse than i thought and in other ways not as bad
1. a lot of applications will query the user home folders. most of them only query default folders. a few will also query everything that isnt a dotfile or hidden. they only query the top level of dirs and not any files or subdirs in the home folder. i dont know why
2. everything lives in appdata and only touches its own appdata folders.
3. the only significant spying was with MS defender's spynet sending off information about binaries executed and IRIS being actual malware (it got firewalled after that)

update on this:
windows wanted to reboot to install 25h2. this is always spotty because i have full disk encryption via veracrypt and sometimes windows updates can break booting because microsoft sucks.
after firewalling everything the computer rebooted that night to update and now its irrecoverable
i ended up installing bazzite linux. ive been testing my games and all of them work somewhere between "fine" and "just as good as native windows"
so i guess im not using windows anymore. what a blessing

at first i thought this article was about banning tvs from routing through consumer vpn services, somehow.
nope, its turns out that FOURTY TWO PERCENT of all apps that LG serves from its own app store are malicious and give unknown access to both your local network and egress to the internet.
this would be a truly unbelievable stat if not for the fact that earlier this week LG got blasted for silently auto installing malware when you plug one of their monitors into a windows computer.

Cyberattacks that use cloud GPUs to destabilize the power grid and disrupt computing. A malicious cloud tenant could synchronize workloads to create rapid power swings. One scenario is 1,000 GPUs on a 1 MW system pushing current distortion to 46.8% and dampingβ¦

the first thing that i noticed is how fast it is. im used to kde having a small delay when opening up menus and im used to arm64 computers being slow in general. there is absolutely zero ui delay when clicking menus. because im so attuned to things taking ~100ms to open it felt like things were opening before i even click them because the delay is just not there.

i spent way too long fighting nemoclaw. its not there yet. nemoclaw locks everything down so much that its difficult to get the agents to actually do anything. i asked one to schedule a reminder for me and it wasnt able to run cron or at or anything else that would allow for future reminders. even just accessing the openclaw dashboard on another computer on the same LAN requires an ssh -L tunnel because nemoclaw locks access to localhost.
i tried to have it create a moltbook account and it cant access the site. its supposed to automatically create a policy change request to get access but even after approving it, the bot still could not send POST requests and refused to make a policy request.
i also hate that policies cannot be approved directly in open claw via TUI/dashboard. you have to ssh into the server and approve from openshell which is a terrible name because the name openshell is already used by a windows start menu alternative, so any googling for troubleshooting is mostly about windows openshell and not nvidia/linux openshell.
i ended up nuking nemoclaw and im gonna try hermes instead. it doesnt seem as secure but it should be far more usable.

comfyui is extremely powerful and about as difficult to figure out how to do. i should take a screenshot of the abysmal spaghetti i had going on when trying to get a lora to work

when i was a kid they had this reading program where you would be tested on your literacy level and then assigned a sticker color range that you were allowed to read. by 4th grade i was reading at an 11th grade level and the next year i was reading at 12th grade.
the school library was split between grade school and high school. all of the books that i was permitted (by color sticker) to read were in the highschool section but i was absolutely forbidden to even step into the highschool aisles let alone look at or check out the books. the only books that i was allowed to check out were 11th and 12th grade level books. the only books they had in the grade school section that met the criteria were the left behind series (honestly they were really bad and the theology was abysmal) and a series of unfortunate events, which were absolutely not age appropriate for me at the time.
i wanted to read redwall, which could best be described as "lord of the rings but with animals made for children" but i was not allowed to because it was a "highschool series" despite being much more age appropriate.
looking back on it, the idea that i was only allowed to read a specific selection of books was kinda messed up.
anyways i had to read a book and take a test on it ever other week or so. the problem was that there were no books that i was allowed to check out, so i could not take a test which was mandatory for my english lit grade. my solution was to sneak into the highs school section and find marked books, remember the name, ask my mom to take me to the public library and then check out the book there. i was branded a troublemaker because i got caught doing this often. despite the fact that i was banned from reading the book i could still test on it and get graded so that i could pass my class.
had i not circumvented the rules they would have called me illiterate and failed my lit class.
