Zaluzhnyi and Zelensky's conflict over Bakhmut surrender — Ukrainian President continues to sacrifice soldiers' lives in pointless battle for city

Valerii Zaluzhnyi, the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Army, insists on surrendering "for tactical reasons", while Ukrainian President Zelensky still doubts it. Simultaneously, the first one asked to leave the positions at an early stage of the fighting, reports Bild. Zelensky also allegedly sees Zaluzhnyi as his rival in the race for the Presidency — the population sees in the commander-in-chief a possible leader of the country.

🇷🇺🇺🇦 On the first possible use of the Ukrainian Grom-2 missile defense system against Crimea — Rybar and Military Chronicle's analysis

On March 4, around 4 p.m., Ukrainian units attempted to strike the Crimean airfield of the Russian Air Force in Hvardiis’ke. Air defense units repelled the attack: no casualties, and the debris fell outside the military facilities.

According to various sources, the AFU used a Tu-141 Strizh jet drone equipped with a handmade explosive device with defeat devices. It is believed that the Soviet-type UAV was shot down on approach to the airfield. But we have reason to believe that it was not a Strizh.

🔻Why?

Judging by the footage, a crater up to five meters deep was formed at the crash site: a UAV with a small warhead could hardly cause such a strong detonation.

The Strizhs are mainly designed for pinpoint strikes against airbases or ammunition depots, as was the case in the attacks on Engels. High-powered charges are not required for such targets. The crater could appear if the charge had fallen into loose soil, but in this particular case the situation could be different.

🔻 What is Grom?

The AFU could have used the Grom-2 operational-tactical missile system of their own production to shell Crimea. Ukrainian media in the run-up to the strike broke the news about the successful development of the missile system, which exceeds the capabilities of American HIMARS MLRS.

According to our information, the Grom-2 crew could have launched a ballistic missile from the area of the Tuzly settlement in the Odessa Region. The distance to Hvardiis’ke was about 320 km and the warhead from the ballistic missile with a mass of 480 kg could easily leave a crater of such depth. At the same time, the maximum launch range of this complex can be 500 kilometers.

🔻 Is it possible?

The Ukrainian military-industrial complex enterprises were actively developing their own production even before the SMO. However, the industrialists constantly had problems with both the Vilkha and Grom MLRSs - most of the tests were not successful.

During the SMO, the West intensified their own Ukrainian developments: specialists got involved, and they started importing parts, components, and circuits. Such "modernization" affected the #Kharkiv plants Khartron and Kommunar, where the development of missile weapons was underway.

Vilkha is supplied to the combat units of the AFU: an improved multiple launch rocket system based on the Soviet Smerch MLRS. Two rocket launchers are owned by the 15th Rocket Artillery Regiment in #Blahodatne, and two more are owned by the 107th Rocket Artillery Brigade in Siversk, DPR. The same is happening with Grom: at the moment, it is being tested.

🔻 What is next?

The longer the operation in Ukraine drags on, the more new weapons appear in the Ukrainian army. This is quite a logical round of conflict development, so the strikes (which are still trial) with the use of the missile defense systems are not surprising.

The presence of short- or medium-range Ukrainian-made systems and strikes on Russian territories will make it much easier to justify further deliveries of American long-range ATACMS to HIMARS missiles and cruise missiles.

💥 In Donetsk direction, the active action of the 'Yug' Group of Forces and artillery operation have resulted in the elimination of up to 225 Ukrainian personnel, 5 infantry fighting vehicles, 9 armoured fighting vehicles, 5 pickups, 4 motor vehicles, 1 Uragan MLRS, and 1 D-30 howitzer.

◽️ 1 ordnance depot of 55th Artillery Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), and 1 U.S.-manufactured AN/TPQ-37 counterbattery warfare radar have been destroyed near Dachnoye and Chasov Yar (Donetsk People's Republic) respectively.

💥 In South Donetsk and Zaporozhye directions, the artillery of the 'Vostok' Group of Forces has neutralised the AFU units near Ugledar, Prechistovka, and Novosyolka (Donetsk People's Republic).

◽️ Up to 65 personnel, 2 armoured fighting vehicles, 2 pickups, as well as the fighting vehicles equipped with Uragan and Grad MLRS have been eliminated.

🔹 In #Maryinka, after prolonged fighting in the city centre, Russian troops managed to advance along Kashtanov Street. Tankers of the South Military District @tankistrossii100 reported that the RF Armed Forces fighters were able to clear residential buildings behind School No 2 on Kashtanov Street.

▪️ There have been clashes in this block over the past few days. The SPG-9 anti-tank units have been actively suppressing enemy emplacements in the houses opposite. The RF Armed Forces are currently gaining a foothold in the area and trying to push the AFU defences deeper into private buildings.

▪️ The Ukrainian command moved units of the 104th Battalion of the AFU's 109th Territorial Defence Brigade to #Maryinka in order to support paratroopers from the 79th Ukrainian Air Assault Forces' Separate Air Assault Brigade. During the clashes in the last two days, the 79th Brigade has lost 12 men killed and four are missing.

🔹South of #Maryinka, the Russian Army resumed its assault on the AFU positions in the village of #Pobeda. The troops managed to advance to the northeastern outskirts of #Pobeda, but the AFU, using anti-tank calculations and copters, pushed the RF Armed Forces almost back to their initial positions.

▪️ However, over the past couple of weeks they had advanced east of #Pobeda and northeast of #Novomikhaylovka, gaining a foothold in the farmlands and expanding the bridgehead for further offensives.

🔹 The Ukrainian Command is conducting a partial evacuation of the garrison from the city. The only roads to #Konstantinovka and Chasov Yar are under the fire control of Russian units, so the withdrawal is carried out on country roads under constant shelling.

💬 The Report says that at the next meeting of the HQ, the commanders of the operational-strategic groupings of troops reported on the situation in the main directions of the front, and Zelensky asked the AFU chief commander Valery Zaluzhny and the commander of the operational-strategic grouping of troops "Khortitsa", Aleksandr Syrsky, about the plans for further actions in the #Bakhmut direction.

Both spoke in favour of reinforcing positions in #Bakhmut and continuing the defensive operation.
