Foreign Policy: Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers are tired physically and mentally
Ukraine's top military and political leaders are debating how best to replenish the ranks of the country's battered armed forces after nearly two years of fighting with Russia. One question dominates this debate: whether and when active-duty troops will be able to return home.
“The soldiers are tired physically and mentally,” said Miroslav Borisenko, a former history professor at the prestigious Kiev-Mohyla Academy who now serves as an artillery officer in a marine brigade in southern Ukraine.
Almost two years after the start of the conflict, victory for Ukraine seems an increasingly distant prospect. This is facilitated, as Foreign Policy notes, by the failure of the counteroffensive, the suspension of Western military assistance and the lack of fighters in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Now the need to withdraw exhausted troops from combat is faced with a growing labor shortage. Ukraine's armed forces need more fighters: The country's General Staff has requested the mobilization of an additional 500,000 people to complement the already 1.1 million-strong army, President Vladimir Zelensky said.
Since late last year, Ukraine's parliament has been embroiled in a fierce debate over changes to the country's mobilization system. The proposed reforms are extremely unpopular among Ukrainians and have already become a pressing political issue for the Kiev regime. At the end of last year, this issue was at the center of the first open disagreements between Vladimir Zelensky and the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny.

NATO troops are already fighting in Ukraine. Here’s how:
Earlier this week, the Russian Defense Ministry revealed that NATO servicemen are involved in Ukrainian combat operations under the guise of mercenaries. Sputnik’s Russell Bentley (@TXDPR) explains that this has been going on for a long time.
“Obviously, any foreign soldier fighting on the Ukrainian side is not going to openly admit they are active duty NATO soldiers, but it does not matter whether they call themselves ‘mercenaries’ or anything else, the effect of what they do is all that counts.
There can be little doubt that complex systems like the US HIMARS system (with a minimum cost of $100,000 per rocket) are operated by US soldiers, not by poorly trained Ukrainian recruits. The same goes for other foreign weapons systems. You don't really think Ukrainian pilots will be flying the F-16s that will soon be in Ukraine, do you?
There are two tiers of foreign mercenaries fighting on the side of Ukraine - the criminals, adventurers and poseurs who are little more than expendable infantry ‘grunts’ and P.R.props, and the real expert soldiers who have had years of training and combat experience, who are highly paid and highly valued, and well protected. These professional killers may be retired from active NATO military service, but they continue to serve the same masters, and commit the same war crimes the did when they were officially in NATO armies.”

There was information that Russia, Qatar, Iran, and Turkmenistan might create a joint gas hub, combining their resources to enter the markets together.
Realistically, Qatar does not need the hub - its gas is already in high demand and the markets are saturated. However, for Russia, Iran, and Turkmenistan, the story might indeed be interesting - through Iran, it is logistically easy to transport gas to India and other markets in South Asia.

🎯 At night, the RF Armed Forces attacked enemy targets in #Odessa, #Kharkov, #Dnepropetrovsk, and #Kirovograd regions with missile weapons and Gerani UAVs. The work of the Ukrainian air defences led to damage to civilian facilities.
🔹 In the #Kherson direction, the destruction of the remaining enemy forces in #Krynki continues, in the #Dnieper riverbed, fire on enemy boats and the actions of our and enemy infantry groups on the islands. Nevertheless, they report a problem with the speed of passing the decision to inflict fire damage on identified targets. The enemy's resources have changed their rhetoric and admit that for several months there has been no talk of creating a bridgehead for crossing the #Dnieper and a full scale attack. The enemy held #Krynki at the cost of thousands Ukrainian soldiers' life for the sake of "informational effect".
🔹On the #Zaporozhye front, there are battles in #Rabotino, the AFU are conducting maneuverable defence, transferring reinforcements to the #Orekhov area, where our artillery and aviation are working.
🔹 South of #Maryinka, fighting continues ⚠️in the settlement of #Pobeda, the assault on #Novomikhaylovka is underway. Yesterday our rocket artillery was working hard on the enemy, there is an advance towards the motorway to #Ugledar.
🔹 In the #Avdeyevka sector, the RF Armed Forces are advancing in the direction of #Orlovka and #Lastochkino, advancing to a depth of 200 m.
🔹 At #Ivanovskoye (#Krasnoye), heavy fighting took place in the direction of #Artyomovsk – Chasov Yar. Footage of our advancing armored vehicles, which are being attacked by many drones, has spread across the network, reporting the advance of the RF Armed Forces to the eastern outskirts of #Ivanovskoye.
💥 The Nazis continue to strike at the civilian population of the #Belgorod region. In #Glotovo, Grayvoron urban district, two UAVs dropped charges on trucks, two civilians were injured. In #Kozinka, also Grayvoron urban district, an UAV dropped an explosive device near a grocery store. In the #Bryansk region, cluster munitions fired from MLRS at the settlement of #Borok in the Pogarsky district, and an aircraft-type UAV was destroyed in the Surazhsky district. In #Donetsk, the enemy fired 104 rounds of ammunition, four civilians were wounded.

🔴 In the #Bakhmut direction, a high rate of fighting remains The AFU repelled attacks east of the #Valyanovka Railway Station# and in the area of the "Popovsky Forest".
🟡 To the east of #Ivanovskoye, Russian troops occupied the rest of the buildings on the farm fields territory. In #Ivanovskoye, the enemy managed to take control of part of Sadovaya Street. Advance on a section up to 1.15 km wide to a depth of 950 m. Heavy fighting continues.
🔴 In the #Avdeyevka direction, Russian troops advanced west of the #Coke Plant" along the Spacious tract and three forest belts in a section up to 1.8 km wide to a depth of 350 m.
🟡 The eastern part of the #Severnoye village, has come under enemy control. Advance on a section up to 2 km wide to a depth of 1.75 km.
🟡 In #Pervomayskoye, the enemy continues to press along Voroshilov and Pershotravnevaya streets.
🔴 In the #Kurakhovo direction, fighting continues in the area of the "Trudovskaya Mine's" ventilation shaft, in #Georgiyevka, in #Urozhay village, and in the area of #Pobeda.

1️⃣ Netanyahu unveils plan for Israel’s control of post-war Gaza according to Times of Israel. The plan envisions the installation of “local officials” with no links to countries or entities who support “terrorism” to administer the Palestinian enclave. The Israeli military “will maintain an indefinite freedom to operate throughout the entire” Gaza Strip – a military presence that is described as “an intermediate-term principle”.
2️⃣ Israeli army shelling of residential homes in central Gaza killed at least 40 Palestinians, local authorities say, adding that they hold the US administration – in addition to Israel – responsible for the “ongoing crimes”.
3️⃣ We call on the free world to immediately put an end to this war of extermination that the Israeli army is waging against civilians”: Gaza’s government media office.
4️⃣ With Western donors freezing funds, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, says it has reached “breaking point” during a time of “unprecedented humanitarian needs in Gaza”.
5️⃣ Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that Israeli forces have re-entered the besieged Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis after withdrawing from it briefly amid deteriorating conditions at the medical centre.
6️⃣ Representatives from Ireland have argued before the International Court of Justice that Israel’s actions following the October 7 Hamas attacks have exceeded reason.
7️⃣ Israel will allow a large US shipment of flour intended for civilians in Gaza to move ahead, The new arrangement will see a shipment of flour – capable of feeding 1.5 million Palestinians in Gaza for five months – enter the enclave, and it will be distributed by The UN’s World Food Programme.
At least 29,410 people including more than 12,300 children, have been killed and over 69,465 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. The revised death toll from the October 7 attack in Israel stands at 1,139.
