*️⃣VIA 57 West

Architect #Ingels #BjarkeIngels #BIG
City #NewYork
Country #USA #NA

🔤 VIΛ 57 West, designed by BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group for the Durst Organization, introduces a new typology to New York City: the Courtscraper.

The VIΛ Courtscraper is a hybrid between the European perimeter block and the traditional American high-rise. The building peaks at 137 meters at its north-east corner, thereby maximizing the number of apartments and graciously preserving the adjacent Helena Tower's views of the river. VIΛ's volume changes depending on the viewer's vantage point. From the west, it is a hyperbolic paraboloid or a warped pyramid. From the east, the Courtscraper appears to be a slender spire.

The shared green space at the heart of the block is derived from the classic Copenhagen 'urban oasis'.

Project was selected by #Archdaily as the best building of the year 2017 in housing category. #award

*️⃣Quzhou Sports Park

Architect #MAD architects
City #Quzhou
Country #China #AP

🔤Appearing from a distance like a halo hovering gently above the landscape, the overhanging structure of Quzhou Stadium is the newest crown jewel of the city.

Visitors approach the stadium by walking through the canopy from one of entrances which feature complex double-curved surfaces that ripple overhead like ocean waves. The canopy is supported by only nine drop points to allow the building to “float” over the landscape. For Ma Yansong, the Quzhou stadium breaks away from conventional sports architecture. It is conceived as a piece of land art that submerges itself into nature and welcomes everyone to gather and share the sports spirit.

With this concept in mind, the undulations of the surrounding topography are carried through to the sloping facade, onto which visitors are encouraged to determine for themselves where the landscape ends and the building begins. Even when the stadium is closed, visitors are encouraged to climb the structure and treat it as an active piece of the landscape. #context

*️⃣Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre

Architect #Lyons
City #Melbourne
Country #Australia #AP

🔤The facade is conceived as a veil-like form made up of curved wall glazing and a dynamic white frit pattern. The graphic for the frit pattern is inspired by healthy layers of skin cells. Just as cells change in proportion closer to the skin’s surface, the design changes the cells’ shape higher up the building.

Although complex in its conception, the cellular pattern appears simple and elegant in its realisation.

This frit pattern has many functions; it creates the iconic exterior presence, contributes to the building’s energy efficiency, and filters light and views in and out of the building.

*️⃣DJI Sky City

Architect #Foster #NormanFoster
City #Shenzhen
Country #China #AP

🔤Starting with the goal of becoming the "heart of innovation," Sky City underwent hundreds of design proposals before determining the concept of an asymmetrical suspended steel structure representative of the high-tech Foster + Partners aesthetic. Two high-rise towers – 44 and 40 stories, respectively – are joined via skybridge.

At 213 meters tall, DJI Sky City gives the appearance of a building floating above the ground. The suspended blocks are carried by megatrusses and steel suspension tubes connected to round cross-sections at their corners, with the maximum overhang of the blocks reaching 21.5 meters. The structural system serves both a load-bearing purpose and exposed aesthetic element, achieving a high degree of unity between space, structure, and form.

According to Young Chiu, the lead architect of the project:
“Sky City's massing and structure are honest and exposed, with rich expression from the inside and out . The aesthetic is unadorned, simple and clean, It is minimal but warm, quiet and yet elegant.”

*️⃣Louvre Lens

Architect #SANAA
City #Lens
Country #France #EU

🔤It is reminiscent of the Louvre palace, with its wings laid almost flat. The architects wanted to bring to mind boats on a river coming together to dock gently with each other. The facades are in polished aluminum, in which the park is reflected, ensuring continuity between the museum and the surrounding landscape.

The Japanese architects from SANAA, Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa wanted to avoid creating a dominating fortress, opting instead for a low, easily accessible structure that integrates into the site without imposing on it by its presence.
