*️⃣The Kudykina Gora Hospitality Center

Architect #Megabudka Architecture Bureau
City #Yablonovo close to #Voronezh
Country #Russia #EU part

🔤The volumes form a cozy, comfortable-scale building front, reminiscent of a fragment of a street in the old city.

The architects of the Moscow bureau Megabudka carried out research and, as a result, developed their own vision of the New Russian Style. The created architectural style is not artificial, but is based on rethinking the cultural and value aspects inherent in the national architecture and mentality. This helps not to go beyond the flexible interpretation of the combination of two concepts: avant-garde and tradition. Here the avant-garde is a completely international style, while the traditional is a woodcut, a semblance of brutal, magnificent and excessive.

The first structure, built in the new Russian style according to the project of the architectural bureau Megabudka, is The Kudykina Gora Hospitality Center. Before the construction, the owners had been developing the park together with the bureau for several years. The idea of a "rethought national identity" is laid in the foundation of development. Any object: logo, mascot, food, font, planning principles, architecture and the like, appears in the park only if it meets the general concept of identity.

*️⃣Lantern House

Architect #Heatherwick #ThomasHeatherwick
City #NewYork
Country #USA #NA

🔤"In contrast to new glass apartment blocks that have sprung up along the High Line, we wanted to create a new type of residence: one that was reminiscent of the area’s existing historical buildings..." #context

"To achieve this, we borrowed the idea of the humble bay window – a detail often found in late Victorian and Edwardian era buildings. Adapting this established motif, we developed a double-height, stacked bay window held between robust brick piers. The three-dimensional windows are freed from corner columns, giving residents spectacular views out of light-filled rooms, as well as a domestic sensibility."

"With facades of plain glass panes, vertical metal mullions and brick, we brought together materials from Chelsea’s rich industrial heritage in an imaginative way. We developed a special range of brick to give the project a unique patina, paired with careful detailing that includes bullnose edges and real brick soffits."

*️⃣Santa Clara Building

Architect #Lagula Arquitectes
City #Girona
Country #Spain #EU

🔤 The aim of the Gironi developer is to transform a 70’s office dense storey building in a new dynamic living typology. #refurbishment

A new curvy courtyard is proposed. This is thought as modern, transparent, luminous space, open to the sky. As a building heart, provides light, ventilation and character to the homes and to the public mew. It is defined in glass blocks following the north European tradition, from the Viennese Otto Wagner to Pierre Chareau’s modernism.

Private access and public common spaces are open to this new concept space, breathing light. This new insertion, as an ice bloc, melts its character to the street.

*️⃣Walden 7

Architect #Bofill #RicardoBofill #RBTA
City #Barcelona
Country #Spain #EU

🔤Walden 7 is a project implementing some of Ricardo Bofill's earliest ambitions and addressing most of the problems of modern city life. The housing structure benefits from Bofill's earlier research and the idea of providing public spaces and gardens for residents to enjoy an enhanced quality of living.

The exterior facade has the appearance of a huge fortification completely painted in red. It is opened to the exterior through large overtures such as urban windows several stories in height.

The most interesting aspect of the project is the atypical way in which the housing block is approached. Eighteen towers, seven courtyards, a modular but unsystematic grid, and extensive public space create a vertical labyrinth with no repetitiveness or uniformity.

*️⃣Xanadú

Architect #Bofill #RicardoBofill #RBTA
City #Calp close to #Benidorm
Country #Spain #EU

🔤The building began from the concept of the castle, evolving so that it arrived at a configuration inspired by the famous Peñon de Ifach crag located nearby. #context

The project is composed of cubes whose rigid geometry is broken on the exterior to create a façade portraying a beautiful play of light and shadow and breathtaking views of the landscape. Vernacular details, curving handrails, and roof elements were added to bring together this irregular façade which combines modern principles with select traditional elements.

Most inspiring in this project is the fact that no plans or elevations were drawn by the architects. The units are positioned diagrammatically after being tested against structural analysis in a model. Openings are determined by orientation, light necessity, ventilation systems, privacy, and connection points. The resulting spaces boast a beautiful quality of living.
