🔤The striking interface situation of the construction site at the eponymous confluence of the Rhône and the Saône inspired the superposition in the urban space of two complexly linked architectural units, crystal, and cloud. The cloud structure, floating on pillars, contains a spatial sequence of black boxes— admitting no daylight, to achieve maximum flexibility for exhibition design.

To build a museum of knowledge, a complex new form had to be developed as an iconic gateway. A building that truly stands out can only come into being through shapes resulting from new geometries. It was important to the concept that the flow of visitors arriving from the city to the Pointe du Confluent should not be impeded by a building. The idea was therefore to develop an openly traversable building that would be floating in part only on supports, to create a public space underneath.

The building ground of the museum is located on a peninsula that was artificially extended 100 years ago. Even though it was apparent that this site would be a difficult one (536 piles had to be securely driven 30 meters into the ground), it was clear that this location would be very important for urban design.

The floors are cooled via groundwater. This will result in significant energy savings for the museum’s foyer in the long term. In terms of thermal insulation, the facades of the exhibition area (cloud) are characterized by an extremely efficient building shell. All of the main access areas are illuminated naturally (not much artificial light); the water supply of the sanitation areas is provided through the groundwater. A photovoltaic system is installed on the roof. #sustainability

🔤When Lina Bo Bardi received the commission to build a new museum of art on São Paulo’s Terraço do Trianon, she was given one condition: under no circumstances could the building block the site’s panoramic vistas of the lower-lying parts of the city. This rule, instituted by the local legislature, sought to protect what had become an important urban gathering space along Avenida Paulista, the city’s main financial and cultural artery.

Undeterred, Bo Bardi came up with a solution that was simple and powerful. She designed a building with a massive split through its midsection, burying half of it below the terrace and lifting the other half into the sky. As a result, the plaza remained open and unobstructed, and in 1968, the iconic São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP) was born.

The MASP’s monumental aesthetic is the result of an ingenious engineering scheme whose structural clarity dominates the building’s formal language. Two enormous pre-stressed concrete beams, resting on equally massive piers, traverse the length of the site in parallel and suspend a voluminous box containing the museum’s main exhibition and administrative spaces.

The great structuralist Herman Hertzberger wrote that "pedestrians who walk on the plaza beneath the galleries feel nothing of the weight of the structure overhead, but rather sense that a cloud has passed in front of the hot Brazilian sun and given them a delightful moment of coolness."

Already in the Renaissance and the Baroque era, the roof is transformed into a cupola, thereby achieving a particular significance. But it was Oscar Niemeyer and Le Corbusier who define the roof not anymore as a mere element of protection, but as a frame for the most diverse concepts... ...The construction as a column-free roof covering a space comes closest to the idea of a ​“flying” roof...” – Wolf dPrix.

The building has won a Guinness World #record for the "longest cantilever roof" in the world.

🔤"We designed a mobile café with recycled containers in Hualien, a spot popular for sightseeing in Taiwan.

We stack up the 40 foot containers to a height of four levels, by staggering in the angle of 90 degrees to create a transparent building like a tall tree. Since they are stacked in a rotating pattern, we were able to produce various types of terraces as well."

🔤Lumin house is located in the historical center of Moscow and is surrounded by dense urban development. The project concept had to solve two problems: to fill the apartments with the maximum amount of natural light and to create a secluded atmosphere in the very center of the city.

The stepped structure of the facade with "cells" - lightboxes allowed to increase the total surface area capable of transmitting light. The main materials used were clear and frosted glass. Blocks of frosted glass form the walls, while clear glass was used for the panoramic windows.
