*️⃣FPT University Administrative Building

Architect #VTN
City #ThachThat close to #Hanoi
Country #Vietnam #AP

🔤In response to the frequent energy shortages on the site, a passive design was proposed for the building to function on minimal generated backup power during blackouts. A shallow plan allows natural light into the interior, reducing the need for artificial lighting. The façade is composed of simple modules that express the simplicity of sustainable design. The structure is based on an affordable concrete construction principle. The standardized modules allow us for faster construction and eventually save the budget for a high-quality interior finish. #budget

The increased urbanization and densification of Vietnamese cities are having a large impact on urban vegetation. Due to the current situation, the building design ensures exposure of greenery and maintaining the connection with nature for the students in work and academic environment. The green landscape is also integrated at the top of the building to form a public stepped garden. #greenery

*️⃣Soumaya Museum

Architect #FernandoRomero #Romero #FREE (FR-EE)
City #MexicoCity
Country #Mexico #NA

🔤The museum’s form, a rotated rhomboid supported by curved steel columns, is clad in a skin of hexagonal mirrored-steel elements which reference the traditional colonial ceramic-tiled building facades and gives the museum a diverse appearance depending on the weather, time of day and the viewer’s vantage point.

The museum reflects the eclectic taste of the collector, as well as his desire to create a new cultural institution for the public and the city.

*️⃣40 Bond Street

Architect #HerzogdeMeuron #HdM #Herzog #Meuron and #Handel
City #NewYork
Country #USA #NA

🔤 Slab and column are clad with gently curved glass covers, which wrap over the structure and can be read as a continuation of the windowpanes. On the one hand the skeleton and bones of the building are expressed, on the other they melt into the glass surface of the window bays and dissolve in a play of translucency, light and reflection. The colour of the building is the colour of glass, with its many shades of green, which depend on light, viewing angle, thickness and layering of the glass. Its design is a reinvention of the cast-iron building found through NoHo and SoHo.

The porch is separated from the street by a cast aluminum gate, which acts as a physical barrier as well as a visual screen. The gate is a collage of graffiti tags, which have been translated into the third dimension with the help of a computer.

*️⃣Vasconcelos Library

Architect #AlbertoKalach #Kalach
City #MexicoCity
Country #Mexico #NA

🔤The structure’s cavernous, hollowed-out interior of an ossified matrix of suspended, expandable shelves presents the project as an awe-inspiring, chill-inducing spectacular that immerses the first-time visitor in the architects’ vision of a library as a container, or ‘ark, a carrier of human knowledge

An extensive concavity of 250 metres long by 30 high-lets in light through the slanted walls and ceiling, from which hung bunches of shelves for all his books. Timeless and schematic as a ruin, lets see the work of tensors of the hanging shelves.

*️⃣Musée des Confluences

Architect #Coop #Himmelblau #CoopHimmelblau
City #Lyon
Country #France #EU

🔤The striking interface situation of the construction site at the eponymous confluence of the Rhône and the Saône inspired the superposition in the urban space of two complexly linked architectural units, crystal, and cloud. The cloud structure, floating on pillars, contains a spatial sequence of black boxes— admitting no daylight, to achieve maximum flexibility for exhibition design.

To build a museum of knowledge, a complex new form had to be developed as an iconic gateway. A building that truly stands out can only come into being through shapes resulting from new geometries. It was important to the concept that the flow of visitors arriving from the city to the Pointe du Confluent should not be impeded by a building. The idea was therefore to develop an openly traversable building that would be floating in part only on supports, to create a public space underneath.

The building ground of the museum is located on a peninsula that was artificially extended 100 years ago. Even though it was apparent that this site would be a difficult one (536 piles had to be securely driven 30 meters into the ground), it was clear that this location would be very important for urban design.

The floors are cooled via groundwater. This will result in significant energy savings for the museum’s foyer in the long term. In terms of thermal insulation, the facades of the exhibition area (cloud) are characterized by an extremely efficient building shell. All of the main access areas are illuminated naturally (not much artificial light); the water supply of the sanitation areas is provided through the groundwater. A photovoltaic system is installed on the roof. #sustainability
