🔤This project is the renovation of La Samaritaine, a late-19th century “Grand magasin” in Paris.The site is of great historical significance and is overlooking the Seine. #heritage

"Our design for the Rivoli façade revitalizes the image of La Samaritaine. The soft waves of the glass echo the rhythm and scale of neighboring fenestration, establishing continuity along this busy commercial street."

To further enhance the integration of the new design within its urban context the glass reflects and transforms the surrounding environment, creating a subtle combination of the historical and the contemporary across its surface.

"Our intention is to establish a harmonious relationship between those parts that are renovated and those that are new."

🔤According to the decision of an international jury, the competition was won by the Hungarian architectural studio, Napur Architect beating leading world-class architect studios such as Zaha Hadid, BIG, etc.

The building is distinguished by a simple design harmonized with the natural environment of the park. The gently curving lines enable the building to function as a gateway and a passage linking the city and the park.

Sixty percent of the structure is under ground. The greenery-covered roof area will be a pleasant community space awaiting visitors to Városliget park. #greenery@simoderna

🔤The first brief from the client was to have a complex able to host concerts and events in an area of enormous archaeological and scenic value; a valley in the region of Al-‘Ula surrounded by the presence of ruins fro the Nabataean empire and 200,000 years of #heritage@simoderna

Our mission was based on figuring out how we could build in such a beautiful and meaningful place and we wondered how to establish a relationship between the construct and the existing in the most respectful way possible. #context@simoderna

Maraya Concert Hall holds the Guinness World Record as the world’s largest mirrored building, clad in 9,740 m² of specially developed #reflective #glass that visually blends the structure into the desert landscape. Guardian Glass engineered a customized exterior mirror solution capable of withstanding extreme heat and harsh conditions, overcoming technical challenges to deliver a quality solution. #record@simoderna

🔤Archeological discoveries revealed that Yantai was among the earliest places in China where ancient sun-worshiping culture emerged.

OPEN designed the Sun Tower to capture and celebrate natural phenomena, re-establishing people’s connection with nature’s spiritual power while bringing much-needed cultural and communal facilities to the new urban district.

Facing the ocean, the concave inner shell of the building acts as a sound collector, absorbing and amplifying sounds from the sea.

🔤The canopy walkway known for its islands and fjords, is the first of its kind in Norway.

The wooden boardwalk structure is carefully designed as a response to the curvature of the mountain, sometimes following the mountain’s ridges and slopes, and sometimes bending out, creating viewpoints and dramatic drops where visitors can feel the wind in the treetops.

The loadbearing structure as well as the boardwalk and railing are made from locally sourced pinewood. This way the structure literally blends in with existing pine trees on the mountain.

Effekt architects and Inge Aamlid developed a simple wooden system of small prefabricated elements to minimize impact on the natural site. Installed with light machinery and by hand, it reduced disturbance during construction. #sustainability@simoderna
