In its materiality, the building seeks contrast but also a connection with its surroundings. The abstract, untreated #aluminium of the façade reflects the water and gives the volume a different appearance at any time of day. In contrast, the stepped roof terraces and the jetty promenade are made of wood, which gives a tactile appearance.
Sluishuis is one of the most sustainable buildings recently completed. It has an energy performance coefficient (EPC) of 0.00. The building is heated by a combination of energy-efficient district heating and heat pumps for hot water and cooling. The building’s energy consumption is fully provided by 2,200 m2 of solar panels. #sustainability

Espai Verd fosters warm relationships among its residents, where public spaces are as crucial as private ones. The building’s horizontal connections, gardens, and labyrinthine streets are integral components that facilitate interaction.
The spaces foster relationships among neighbors and create a microclimate within the building. One significant outcome was the structure accounting for the weight of the soil needed for all the gardens and large trees. At the same time, vegetation integration makes it possible to humanize the kind of brutalist projects.
The building drew inspiration from Habitat 67 in Montreal.

To create another standard parking structure on a retail base, with a facade that hides the ugliness of what is being stored inside, and a recessed penthouse on top would not have answered the urban requirements of this place.
A retail unit and a private residence are located on the upper levels, and the structure can be used for parties, photo or film shoots, fashion shows, concerts or other social or commercial activities, offering amazing views as the backdrop for the stage.
"The structure is the architecture. The car park is an organism made up of a family of #rawconcrete slabs, deployed as floor plates, columns and ramps"- Herzog de Meuron#quote@simoderna

The beauty in the architecture of the first floor, however, is what gave the Exeter Library its fame. This main floor reaches 20 metres in height and soaks in natural light from a clerestory at the top of this space. From this 15 metres square space visitors can spot metal bookstacks and readers above through large holes.
