🔤In the reconstruction of Berlin, the Sony Center stands for a new technical vision and order. External is the “real” city and internal is the “virtual” city.

Façades and roof act as a fabric, which moderates the natural and artificial light. With its characteristics of transparency, permeability to light, reflection, and refraction, there is a constant change of images and effects during day and night, effecting not only the appearance but also maximizing the comfort and minimizing the use of resources.

The dome covering the central plaza is a spectacular feat of engineering, composed of #glass panels and metal rings that tension white #textile membrane segments.

🔤The new O’Hare Rapid Transit Station was constructed beneath the existing O’Hare Airport parking structure. The void that resulted between the station’s #glassbrick walls and concrete beams was used as a giant “lightbox” to illuminate the undulating station walls.

The remote Concourse C is connected by an underground pedestrian walkway to the main terminal 1. This walkway features a dazzling #stainedglass display of color, sound, and light that transcends that typical tunnel experience, conveying passengers between the concourses in an enjoyable manner.

After security passengers enter the 15-meter high vaulted corridor of Concourse B where skylights wrap the concourse enclosure with light and airy environment. The abundant natural light combined with lively retail and the bustle of passengers make travelers feel as if they are walking down a city street.

🔤Originally a drum factory, the building was transformed in 1982 into a thriving multi-functional space by adding two concrete towers connected by diagonal walkways. #refurbishment #retro

Bo Bardi’s design approach emphasized the building’s structural elements, revealed through stripping the factory to its original #rawconcrete, and was guided by a socially utopian vision in line with the highest ideals of Modernism.

All structures are alleviated by amoeba-shaped windows the architect referred to as “Spanish civil war holes” — and contain sports facilities like football fields, a swimming pool, and a solarium.
