🔤Symbolically intertwined with Qatar’s heritage, the Katara Towers in Lusail are an architectural translation of Qatar’s national seal, representing the traditional scimitar swords.

The two five-star hotels in the Katara Towers were opened in 2022 when Qatar hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup. One tower houses the Raffles Doha Hotel, while the other contains the Fairmont Doha Hotel and they are jointly managed under one management team.

🔤The interlocking blocks create a multitude of shared outdoor spaces, forming a dramatic topography of inhabitable terraced gardens across the stepped volumes. Partly resting, partly floating, the blocks hover on top of each other to form an expressive “interlaced” space that connects the individual apartments with an accessible and inclusive community life.

The landscape design capitalizes on the generous size of the eight-hectare site and further maximizes the presence of nature. By stacking the apartment blocks, the design generates a multiplication of horizontal surfaces populated by extensive roof gardens and landscaped terraces that in aggregate provide 112% green area – more than the size of the unbuilt site.

Water bodies have been strategically placed within defined wind corridors, which allow evaporative cooling to happen along wind paths, reducing local air temperatures and improving the thermal comfort of outdoor recreation spaces in strategic micro-climate zones. #sustainability

Project was selected by #WAF as the best building of the year 2015. #award

🔤To frame the main facade of the museum a large square has been designed which receives the incoming visitors. Facade will also receive night time projections of images related to current exhibitions, which also illuminate the museum and make it stand out from a distance.

In this extensive patio, dominating the space we can find a large fountain designed as a swirling water motif. In the Baroque, moving water is a recurring theme; in the MIB it is a metaphor for the 'generation' of the museum.

As part of the structural strategy, the museum is a single rigid volume, giving the building earthquake resistant qualities. The foundation transmits vertical loads on the ground filler compacted soils.

🔤Located within a network of civil scale structures with a bridge and one-sided three-lane highways, the station is enclosed from the heavy traffic on both sides by cylindrical shaped shell. The shell consists of a three-dimensional curved surface of a ribbed #steel plate with a thickness of 9 mm.

The platform, located on the first basement floor, is a space seamlessly integrated with the ground, by wiring the station facilities under the floor and receiving the earth pressure of the box culvert on the track with the new U-shaped civil engineering structure.

Light and shadow show different expression depending on time, weather and seasons. "As a result, we were able to realize a bright platform space filled with natural light, which is rare as an underground station.

🔤The network’s design bridges the past and future of Qatar. While drawing inspiration from regional architecture, it simultaneously presents an effective vision of the future.

Referencing the notion of Caravanserais - which were inns with enclosed courts that served as gathering and resting places on ancient trade routes - and following in the lineage of historic train palaces, the design generates social interaction and propagates place creation over space creation.

The contrast of solid sandstone exteriors and rich, illuminated interiors with a motherof-pearl iridescence, exemplify Qatari
traditions. The atmospheric exterior
references the monolithic strength of ancient Qatari architecture, while interior spaces reveal themselves like oyster pearls,
capturing a sense of movement.

Drawing inspiration from the arch, expressions of traditional architecture, the lightness of the dhow sail, and the tensile profiles of nomadic tents, the 'Vaulted Spaces' design proposes a contemporary approach to the interpretation and structural implementation of these references.
