*️⃣Your Rainbow Panorama

Architect #Olafur #Eliasson #OlafurEliasson #SOE
City #Aarhus
Country #Denmark #EU

🔤"A city is a cosmos, a site for social encounters and cohabitation. A museum is a vision machine that challenges our senses, thoughts, and felt opinions. The public, you, is a barometer of the world. You mould as much as you receive.

Your rainbow panorama sits on top of a house of condensed meanings – contested, defended, undone, and re-enacted – of cultural intentions, historical realities, visions, and revisions. Museums will always be vision machines. Visions for now and forever."

*️⃣56 Leonard Street

Architect #HdM #HerzogdeMeuron #Herzog #Meuron
City #NewYork
Country #USA #NA

🔤The high-rise tower is an important ingredient within the contemporary city. However, towers have come to be defined solely by their height and, as a type, they have become anonymous. The multiplication of units within simple extruded shapes produces repetitive and anonymous structures with no extra benefits or architectural qualities despite the incredible densities they achieve.

56 Leonard Street acts against this anonymity and repetitiveness, emanating from so many towers of the recent past. Its ambition is to achieve, despite its size, a character that is individual and personal.

The top of any tower is its most visible element and, in keeping with this, the top of 56 Leonard Street is the most expressive part of the project and relates to the tradition of iconic tower tops in New York City. This expressiveness is driven directly by the requirements of the interior, consisting of ten large-scale penthouses with expansive outdoor spaces and spacious living areas.

*️⃣Dujiangyan Zhongshuge Bookstore

Architect #XLiving (X+Living)
City #Chengdu
Country #China #AP

🔤In the Central Literature District, the designer uses the mirror ceiling to visually expand spatial ductility and create an open and high feeling. The bookshelf wall inspired from the magnificent Dujiangyan damspreads upward all the way, like a super city wall built with historical culture. With the effect of black tiles flooring, the book tables seems like boats quietly mooring on the lake. It paddles and floats between thebookshelf wall.

The changes of the architectural structure in the walking also reflect the dynamic aesthetics of climate changes, whether it’s rainy, windy or foggy. It seems that the beautiful scenery of Dujiangyanis vividly presented in the space.

When you go up the stairs, the bookshelves beside you offer a variety of books at accessible distance. Other places where people could not reach are decorated with book pattern film, you can still feel the majestic momentum of the space.

*️⃣Cidade Das Artes

Architect #Portzamparc
City #Rio #RiodeJaneiro
Country #Brazil #SA

🔤The Cidade das Artes resembles a large house, a great veranda above the city – a tribute to an archetype of Brazilian architecture. Between the two horizontal plates of the roof and the terrace are set the large curved concrete walls that contain the halls in an interplay of volumes and voids. This is another version of the open block – hollow but made out of assembled layers.

The architecture frames and echoes the beautiful curves of the Siera Atlantica Mountains and the line of the sea. #context

The building is a small, raised city organized around a terrace ten meters above ground, floating upon a public park – a tropical, aquatic garden designed by Fernando Chacel. This terrace is a public space; it is a gathering point that gives access to all of the facilities, where you feel like you’re in Rio’s great landscape.

*️⃣Toronto Reference Library

Architect #Moriyama #Teshima #MoriyamaTeshima #MTA
City #Toronto
Country #Canada #NA

🔤Originally designed in the 1970's by firm founder, Raymond Moriyama, Moriyama Teshima Architects completed a renovation and expansion of the building beginning in the late 1990's, transforming the library from an introverted, research-oriented institution into a vibrant and contemporary gathering place, cultural venue. #renovation

One of the most distinctive features of the library is its five-story atrium, which floods the interior with natural light. The atrium is surrounded by balconies and open spaces, creating a dynamic and inviting environment for visitors.

Renovations were undertaken from 2009 to 2014, which saw the building expanded to its present size with a transparent glass cube built onto the structure; the glass cube holds an expanded lobby that includes a shop and café. The design of the cube is reminiscent of the original proposal submitted by Moriyama in 1973.

The Toronto Reference Library has also been the filming location for a number of films and music videos including Red (2010), "Secrets" by the Weeknd, and The L.A. Complex.
