The Museum Hotel Antakya pays homage to the amazing mosaics, baths, piazzas discovered during the first drills of the site and draws on the tensioned relationship of Archaeology and Architecture by intertwining the ancient and the modern.
An understanding of the unique context was a vital part of this project; becoming familiar with archaeological preservation, re-interpreting the architectural program of the hotel typology made it possible to design a building that would fit within this place and to receive the approval of the Heritage Committee. #heritage

The volume resembling a mountain of pottery is inspired by Shushan Mountain, located near the project site and cherished by the Northern Song dynasty writer Su Dongpo, as well as by the dragon kiln, a climbing kiln that has been in continuous use for 600 years. #context
The facade, which evokes the "temperature" of pottery in the manufactory, was developed in collaboration with local artisans. Warm and slightly coarse to the touch like Chinese tea ware, these ceramic panels embody the history and culture of the ceramic city, which has been passed down through the generations for more than 1,000 years.

Wealthy European nations like Spain, Germany, and France appear prominently due to both economic strength and deep architectural traditions, while smaller but affluent states such as Singapore, the UAE, and Denmark rank high relative to size by leveraging resources into design-driven urban identities.
Meanwhile, countries like Brazil, Mexico, and Russia illustrate how regional economies translate into recognizable architectural contributions.
Overall, the distribution underscores the strong correlation between national economic power and the production of globally visible contemporary architecture.
Only countries mentioned at least five times are included. The list is regularly updated.

The relatively standard design brief for the initial stages had metamorphosed into a groundbreaking development on the world stage.
Towers stand on a large podium that incorporates much of the original shopping mall, which has been extended and reworked into a high-end retail centre, offering the world’s foremost brands through compact, luxurious shops with the intimacy of a traditional Arabian souk.

Figures such as Gehry, Heatherwick, Calatrava, and Herzog & de Meuron reflect a mix of experimental forms and institutional commissions, while Foster, Nouvel, and Koolhaas represent established modern masters.
The presence of MAD, Snohetta, and Kengo Kuma signals the growing influence of Asian and Nordic practices, and the inclusion of historic names like Le Corbusier or Niemeyer underlines the occasional reference to foundational modernist legacies.
Overall, the distribution balances celebrated global icons with regional innovators and classics, mirroring the way contemporary discourse blends past and present architectural narratives.

Northern European countries such as Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Belgium also perform well thanks to a tradition of public design investment, while larger states like Russia, China, Brazil, and India score lower because their vast populations dilute the visibility of individual projects.
Overall, the distribution underscores how density, scale, and cultural emphasis on architecture shape people’s day-to-day exposure to contemporary buildings.

Natural light also enters the terminal via a network of linear skylights that provide an intuitive system of navigation throughout the building, guiding passengers to and from their departure gates.
Structural spans of up to 100m provide the terminal’s generous public spaces and allow the highest degree of flexibility for any future reconfiguration.
The compact radial configuration of the terminal allows a maximum number of aircraft to be parked directly at the terminal with minimum distances from the centre of the building. This configuration ensures the farthest boarding gate can be accessed in a walking time of less than 8 minutes.
