🔤Tsuruoka Cultural hall is a multipurpose hall that serves as a base for cultural and artistic activities in the region. The surrounding site is characterised by its abundant nature, and is located in a cultural precinct of ​​the city filled with historic buildings, universities and galleries. A building was sought to expand local civic activities, while incorporating the old cultural hall which has been the heart of cultural activities to the students and local arts groups.

As a "hall for the community" where citizens become participants, observers and actors, we proposed a large hall wrapped by a corridor, resembling traditional Japanese ‘Saya-do’ construction. The exterior of the building looks like an assembly of many small roofs. Each small roof become lower towards the perimeter of the building, and it becomes as low as a one story building along the road. By controlling the volume in this way, we sought to make a building that is in harmony with the adjacent historic building and the surrounding cityscape. #context

Light shells with rounded shapes are delivered to a metal structure in thin sheets of metal coated with resin. Each music session can be held in a conducive environment because to the level of sound insulation provided by the shells’ independence from one another.

🔤This is an accommodation facility where guests can experience“zazen” (sitting meditation) on a small, lush site on Awaji Island. In fact, the design is reflective of many of the requirements and ideals of the meditative practice. Besides its remote location which would allow for a calm environment, the layout conveys an extensive and elongated space (up to 90 meters in length) which can be suggestive of the stretching of time in which one is immersed in their thoughts. The idea of balance can also be noted as the large, yet seemingly light center is half-suspended on two main steel base columns.

🔤At a moment when libraries are perceived to be under threat from a shrinking public realm on one side and digitization on the other, the Seattle Central Library creates a civic space for the circulation of knowledge in all media, and an innovative organizing system for an ever-growing physical collection – the Books Spiral.

The library's various programs are intuitively arranged across five platforms and four flowing "in between" planes, which together dictate the building's distinctive faceted shape, offering the city an inspiring building that is robust in both its elegance and its logic.

🔤The geometry of the tower is shaped to enhance the visitor experience, shunning the typical cylindrical shape in favor of a curved profile with a slender waist and enlarged base and crown. This does not only increase the stability of the tower but also increase the observation deck area at the top of the tower, while allowing for better contact to the forest canopy.

A 900 meter boardwalk connected to a 45 meter tall observation tower creates a unique opportunity to take a walk among the trees and experience the stunning nature of the preserved forest from another perspective. The tower and the boardwalk are seamlessly connected by a continuous ramp that makes the forest accessible to all - regardless of their physical condition.

The high walkway will also feature a series of activities for different user groups to learn and enjoy the forest qualities. The treetop walk and observation tower are part of Camp Adventure, an existing adventure sports facility that includes treetop climbing and aerial zip lines.
