Hey everyone...
Please stop telling my mom that the Coronavirus stuff is an over reaction!!π‘π‘π‘
As most of you know, I am a registered nurse with 30 years experience in Emergency and Intensive care nursing, and I currently work at one of the busiest inner-city Emergency Rooms in the San Francisco Bay Area.... I have first hand knowledge of what Iβm about to tell you.
I have just gotten home from California where I personally....PERSONALLY...Received patients taken off the cruise ship in Oakland. It was a nightmare....and never in my 30 years of nursing have I seen anything like it. The amount of resources it consumed, and chaos that it created was simply incredible.
Hereβs why COVID-19 is a problem:
1). The rate of contagion....on a piece of paper, looks like a bell curve.
2). The steeper that curve....(the more people that become sick with the virus over a short period of time), will overwhelm the healthcare system.
3). There are simply not enough isolation rooms, staff, or ventilators to respond to a population that gets sick rapidly and in large numbers.
We must therefore, βFlatten the Curveβ. Shutting down events, schools, parades, will HOPEFULLY slow down the rate of infection, so that the United States does not face what Italy faced, where the doctors there had to Choose who would live or die because they were simply out of equipment and personnel.
Older people, like you, are most at risk. The virus attacks the body.... the body reacts wildly with its immune response causing leukocytopenia, thrombocytopenia, and other issues that in the end, weakens the body. When we x-ray the lungs, they appear as if ground-glass is inside the lungs. We can put these folks on ventilators, (if we have one) but basically the virus shreds the lung tissue, and the person dies.
The early numbers, would have us believe that the virus was no more deadly than the flu. Now we are finding out, because more tests are being done, that itβs 6-10 times deadlier in certain populations. Older people.
It very well could be a generation killer pandemic if not managed properly...
So, if you irresponsibly wonβt personally stay home and help to βflatten the curveβ. Please do not give MY mother your unschooled opinion that our nations response is an over reaction. You simply have no first hand knowledge. And you will be part of this countryβs problem, not itβs solution...
Stay home....watch Netflix....but FLATTEN THE CURVE! Save our older generation.
Please share this with anyone you love. #flattenthecurve

People With Blood Type A May Be More Vulnerable to COVID-19, China Study Finds
People with blood type A may be more vulnerable to infection by the new coronavirus, while those with type O seem more resistant, according to a preliminary study of patients in China who contracted the disease known as Covid-19.
Medical researchers in China took blood group patterns of more than 2,000 patients infected with the virus in Wuhan and Shenzhen and compared them to local healthy populations. They found that blood type A patients showed a higher rate of infection and they tended to develop more severe symptoms.
