For a long time they insisted that biological sex (male/female) is distinct from gender (man/woman). But now they've redefined female in terms of gender identity. So if you identify as a woman, you can now say you're female, regardless of your biology.

This means you can no longer say Lia Thomas is a male competing unfairly in women's sports. Lia Thomas is female, because Lia Thomas identifies as a woman. Sex and gender are the same again. Reality bends to meet one's identity.
