Our world at large is in need of a return to local —created & maintained by all of us. New food systems & new networks of exchange, built by us the seed planters, the farmers, the earth caretakers, through local family farms, stores, & communities.
How do we start & continue for many:
-plant a garden (pots, beds, backyards, empty land with permissions)
-land share & rentals (if you have acreage, think about opening up for sharing to local growers with contracts)
-start a pma or co-op with other growers
-save and share seeds (heirloom, organic, open pollinated)
-buy from farmers markets & stands or drive to local farms in your area.
-buy bulk organics with friends/family from local resources
-pay in cash & trade if/when possible
-donate time (time bank) for exchange of goods.
-gift to those in need (injury/disability/illness)
Self-sufficiency returned to us, by us!

What’s old is new again. A generator auto starts to charge batteries in a house. All appliances run off batteries. These were used before rural electrification. It’s a 32vdc system and required appliances meant to run on that voltage. Remember bsck then there were no standards for voltage or frequency. Depending what part of the country you were in you might have 32v dc or 110v ac at 16hz or 133hz. The pumps in New Orleans still run at 16hz and need special power converters to this day.
