If DeepSeek's AI models are as good as OpenAI's GPT-4 or even GPT-4-turbo, then does this imply one of the following?

- NVIDIA is supplying high-end GPUs to Chinese companies (which might not be possible due to export restrictions).
- China has developed GPUs that are as powerful as NVIDIA's.
- They have found a way to achieve similar performance with lower compute requirements.

I've heard the story of Doctor Kitaw Ejigu working with NASA and being killed by the U.S. government was a scam. I came across it a while ago but didn't bother to verify it. Now that the topic has come up again, I got curious and decided to do some research. I couldn't find any credible information confirming that he was a NASA scientist, except on Wikipedia and a website called 'Famous People.'

Does anyone have any conspiracy theories, claims, or insights to share? lets do research in public esti ๐Ÿ˜

The point of this post is to avoid creating another conspiracy and focus on research. If we find a well-supported answer, great. But itโ€™s hard for me to believe without solid info. He was one of my inspirations growing up, but trying to research isnโ€™t a bad thingโ€”research has never been a bad thing.

What open-source repo should I contribute to? I think I can make time, like maybe one day a week, to sit down and contribute to some open-source projects. Itโ€™d be cool if itโ€™s a company-backed one tho (like a product or something). ๐Ÿ˜

This was my reaction When I found out about CVA ๐Ÿ˜ (Class Variance Authority), a utility that helps you define variants, defaults, and conditional styles when building your own design system.

Bruh, Iโ€™ve been doing this manually the whole time ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ... Better late than never, right? โœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hey everyone,

I made a small project for practicing Amharic touch typingโ€”a simple clone of keybr.com built with Elm and Laravel. Itโ€™s nothing fancy, but it might be useful if youโ€™re learning to type in Amharic.

You can check it out here: https://fetan.mesnoy.com

Let me know if you find it helpful or have any feedback!

Dang, this is wild! I tried out Google AI Studio's real-time stream, and itโ€™s like youโ€™re actually talking to someone in real life. You can share your screen, ask it stuff, and it just helps you out. Itโ€™s basically a Zoom call with a genius.

I opened up a codebase I wanted to contribute to, and it literally guided me through it. You can even interrupt it like youโ€™re chatting with a real person. This is exactly how I wanna use AI! ๐Ÿ™†โ€โ™‚๏ธ

(Heads up, tho, Google uses your shared screen data and interactions to train their models and probably for ads.)

So now OpenAI is trying to make our DeepSeek experience the worst by DDoSing DeepSeek servers, huh? ๐Ÿค” I mean, I can't say they wouldn't do this, especially since the market is falling them. In the meantime, I'm gonna try running DeepSeek-R1-Distill-Qwen locally (the 7B version). It's around 4.7GB, so my PC is going to have a hard time handling it ๐Ÿ˜. This is just for experiment, Iโ€™m not planning to use it on a regular basis or anything like that. ๐Ÿ˜

My next side project will still focus on WebSockets. I'm planning to build an Excalidraw-like application and make it interactive, allowing two users to collaboratively control everything on the board. They will be able to see changes in real time, similarโ€ฆ
Iโ€™m using Turborepo to build this project, and Iโ€™m keeping the backend server separate from the WebSocket server. Instead of using Socket.io, Iโ€™m going with WebSockets library ( ws ) . This way, my HTTP backend handles authentication and all the non-real-time stuff, while the WebSocket server takes care of anything that needs to happen in real-time.

For the database, Iโ€™m using PostgreSQL with Prisma as the ORM. The app will let users create study rooms where they can join and mess around with an Excalidraw-like interface (basically a collaborative whiteboard).

This projectโ€™s gonna help me get a deeper understanding of Turborepo, WebSockets, Canvas (which Iโ€™ve been avoiding for a while), and some browser physics, since I need to track real-time interactions.

Just trying to design the simple architecture of the app .. all the browsers will be connected to the socket server for the shape creation and moment .. and the HTTP backend for the auth , and also crud functionalities

not sure if its the right one but we'll see

Gonna commit into learning and building a Flutter app this week ๐Ÿ˜. Itโ€™s for a job interview, and they wanna see how fast I can pick stuff up, build, and deliver. Shouldnโ€™t be too crazy, but weโ€™ll see how it goes!
