White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt held a press briefing on Iran. Keynotes:
β Before Operation Epic Fury, the Iranian air force would fly 30β100 flights per day; today, that number is zero.
β The Iranians originally put forward a 10-point plan that was fundamentally unserious and completely unacceptable. It was literally thrown in the garbage by President Trump and his negotiating team. Many outlets have falsely reported that this plan was acceptable to the United States. That is not true.
With the presidentβs deadline fast approaching and the U.S. military decimating Iran with each passing hour, the regime acknowledged reality to the negotiating team. They then put forward a more reasonable, entirely different, and condensed plan. President Trump and his team determined that this new, modified plan was a workable basis for negotiations, to be aligned with our own 15-point proposal.
β The presidentβs red lines - namely, the end of Iranian enrichment in Iran, have not changed. The idea that President Trump would ever accept an Iranian wish list as a deal is completely absurd.
β On reports that Strait of Hormuz was closed again:
With respect to the initial reporting from Iranian state media, the president was made aware of those reports before I came to the podium. That position is completely unacceptable. Again, this is a case where what they are saying publicly differs from what they are saying privately. We have seen an uptick in traffic in the Strait today, and I will reiterate the presidentβs expectation and demand that the Strait of Hormuz be reopened immediately, quickly, and safely. That is his expectation. It has been relayed to him privately that what is being reported publicly is false.
β Lebanon is not part of the ceasefire, that has been communicated to all parties involved.
β Trump is dispatching his negotiating team, led by the Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Mr. Kushner, to Islamabad for talks this weekend. The first round of those talks will take place on Saturday morning, local time, and we look forward to those in-person meetings.
β Reporter: Has Iran given the administration any indication that it would simply turn over its highly enriched uranium?
Leavitt: They have. Yes.
β Reporter: What was your understanding of what Trump meant when he said this civilization is going to be eliminated?
Leavitt: I think it was a very, very strong threat from the president of the United States, one that led the Iranian regime to cave and ask for a ceasefire, and to agree to reopening the Strait of Hormuz. It was a strong threat that produced results. And as the Secretary of War stated at the Pentagon this morning, it was not an empty threat by any means. The Pentagon had a target list ready to be executed at 8 p.m. last night.
β Reporter: Can you tell me that the United States is still considering withdrawing from NATO? Is that still a possibility?
Leavitt: Itβs something the president has discussed, and I think itβs something he will be discussing in a couple of hours with Secretary General Rutte. You may hear more directly from him.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a statement to the media. Keynotes:
We still have some goals to accomplish, and we will achieve them either through agreement or through renewal of the war; we are ready to do so whenever necessary.
The ceasefire was not a surprise to us.
This is not the end of the campaign - the negotiations are a stage on the way to achieving our goals.
And for those who worry about the relationship between me and Trump. We speak daily, and we smile every time we hear these assessments. Those who choose to ignore this amazing cooperation are simply ignoring reality.
The enriched uranium will come out of Iran either by agreement or by the resumption of fighting.
The temporary ceasefire with Iran will not include Lebanon. Today, we have given Hezbollah the strongest blow they have suffered since the pagers.

Vice President of the United States, JD Vance:
β If Iran wants to let this negotiation fall apart over Lebanon, which has nothing to do with them, that is ultimately their choice. We think that would be dumb, but itβs their choice.
β JD Vance on the Strait of Hormuz:
Weβve already seen an increase in traffic today; hopefully, weβll see an increase in traffic tomorrow. We actually think that we are seeing signs that the straits are starting to reopen. I think you guys have probably seen oil prices have come down. So, I think the oil markets, the gas markets, are seeing the same thing. But the presidentβs been very clear: the deal is a ceasefire, a negotiation. Thatβs what we give, and what they give is that the straits are going to be reopened. If we donβt see that happening, the president is not going to abide by our terms if the Iranians are not abiding by their terms.
β The Israelis have actually offered to check themselves a little bit in Lebanon because they want to make sure that our negotiation is successful. That's not because that is part of the ceasefire. I think that's the Israelis trying to set us up for success.
β The Iranians have got to take the next step, or Trump has a lot of options to go back to the war.
βTrump has talked about sanctions relief. He has also talked about economic partnerships and things like that. But thatβs not going to happen unless the Iranians make a firm commitment to stop anything close to the development of a nuclear weapon.
β Reporter: Is the threat to wipe Iranian civilization off the map still on the table? Is it fair to keep 90 million Iranians under that threat for the actions of their leaders?
JD Vance: The leadership is really to blame for the condition of the country of Iran.
βIf they break their end of the bargain, theyβre going to face serious consequences.
β I actually wonder how good he is at understanding English, because there are things that he said that frankly did not make sense in the context of the negotiations we had.
β JD Vance on Lebanon:
I think the situation with Lebanon is a reasonable misunderstanding. Neither we nor the Israelis said that Lebanon was going to be part of the ceasefire.
β Ghalibaf talked about an attack that had allegedly happened on Iran and how that was a violation of the ceasefire. Ceasefires are always messy. An hour after the president announced the ceasefire, the Iranians launched a bunch of missiles. Then the Israelis responded, then some of the Gulf Arab states responded. This is the nature of a ceasefire. No ceasefire ever goes without a little bit of choppiness.
βThe first 10-point proposal was something that was submitted, and we frankly think it was probably written by ChatGPT. It immediately went into the garbage and was rejected.
There was a second 10-point proposal that was much more reasonable. It was based on some back-and-forth between us and the Pakistanis. That is the proposal the president was referencing, and itβs true as of yesterday.
And then, frankly, Iβve seen a third 10-point proposal thatβs even more maximalist than the first one thatβs been floating around various social media channels.
