Are You Awake?

I overslept (again) this morning.

My alarm woke me from a pleasant dream. I silenced the alarm, then rolled over. BAM!

I was back into a dream ABOUT waking up. By the time I “came to my senses” and realized I was dreaming, it was too late - I’d overslept.

This experience reminded me of when I “woke up” from the religion I was born into: before I knew it, I was lulled back to sleep, seduced by another ideology - dreaming that I was awake.

It's a frustrating, yet all too common experience - being lulled into passive living by appealing ideologies, gurus, or leaders.

But, this time I'm taking a stand. I'm choosing to remain awake, and to be fully present and aware of my thoughts and actions. It's not easy, but it's vital. Self-awareness and self-discipline are the keys to remaining in control of our own thoughts and choices.

It's important to remember that admiring or following a leader or ideology is not inherently wrong, but it's crucial to stay aware and open to new ideas.

As we navigate through life, we must guard our own thinking and always strive to learn and grow. It's only through this self-awareness and discipline that we can truly live and make choices for ourselves.

Nobody else can do that work for you.

All US domestic flights grounded as key FAA system goes down

Flights across the U.S. – including potentially all that fly through any domestic U.S. airspace – are delayed this morning as a major system outage means the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) can’t send out key hazard notices to commercial pilots. The FAA says it’s working to resolve the issue, but the widespread impact continues as of early Wednesday morning.

The White House said, “there is no evidence of a cyberattack at this point, but the President directed DOT to conduct a full investigation into the causes.”

Shareholder primacy tenets holds that:

Maximizing shareholder value: The primary goal of a corporation is to increase the value of the company for its shareholders.

Profit-oriented: Decisions are made based on the expectation of financial return, rather than on social and environmental concerns.

Short-term focus: Decisions are often made with a short-term focus on immediate profits, rather than long-term sustainability.

Prioritizing shareholders over stakeholders: Shareholders interests are prioritized over the interests of other stakeholders, such as employees, customers, and the community.

Limited liability: Shareholders are only liable for their initial investment in the corporation and don't have personal liability for the company's actions.

While shareholder primacy may lead to short-term financial gains, it is often criticized for being detrimental to the well-being of employees, customers, and the community, and for being unsustainable in the long-term due to ignoring social and environmental concerns.

In order to overturn the tenets of "Shareholder Primacy" and begin implementing tenets more similar to those of Jacques Fresco, here’s a list of legal rulings and presumptions that would need to be challenged:

The "business judgment rule" which presumes that the decisions of corporate directors and officers are made in the best interest of the corporation and its shareholders. This would need to be reevaluated and replaced with a framework that prioritizes the well-being of all stakeholders.

The "fiduciary duty" of corporate directors would need to be redefined to include the well-being of all stakeholders, not just shareholders.

The legal concept of "limited liability" for shareholders would need to be reevaluated, to hold shareholders accountable for the actions of the corporation and to make them more responsible in decision-making.

The "corporate form" would need to be redefined to reflect the idea that corporations are social and environmental entities, not just economic entities.

The legal "purpose" of corporations would need to be expanded to include social and environmental goals in addition to profit.

Canada’s air traffic system suffered a similar outage to the one that occurred in the US for a brief period today (Jan 11, 2023).

US air travel was badly disrupted by the failure of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Notice to Air Missions system (NOTAM) overnight on Tuesday, forcing a full ground stop of domestic aviation on Wednesday morning.
