Have You Heard of Proctalgia Fugax?
🤔Ever experienced a sudden, stabbing pain in your rectum during your period?
It might sound scary — but it’s actually a real and surprisingly common condition called Proctalgia Fugax.

What is it?
Proctalgia Fugax is a brief spasm of the muscles in the anal canal that causes sharp rectal pain. It comes suddenly, usually at night or during menstruation, and lasts from a few seconds to a few minutes.

How common is it?
Studies show that 8–18% of women experience this condition, especially around their periods. Despite how intense the pain may feel, it’s not dangerous and usually goes away on its own.

Is it serious?
Nope — it’s mild and self-limiting. While it can be uncomfortable, it's not a cause for alarm.

A few ways to ease it include:
-Deep breathing
-Warm baths
-Gentle relaxation techniques

Share this with someone who might have felt this but didn’t know it had a name!😄

“Taking pain meds during your period is dangerous💀!”MYTH or FACT?

💊Let’s clear this one up once and for all.
Menstrual cramps can be debilitating, and for many, pain relief feels like the only way to function. But there’s so much confusion and guilt around using painkillers.
So, here’s the truth:

FACTS:
•You can take pain-relieving medications like Ibuprofen, Mefenamic acid, or Naproxen to ease period cramps, and doctors often recommend them.
•These medications are NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and they work by reducing prostaglandins, the hormones that trigger uterine contractions and pain.

MYTHS to stop believing:
•“You’ll become infertile”
•“Your body will get addicted”
•“It will make your period stop”
None of these are true when used responsibly and as prescribed.

What to watch out for:
•Take them after eating to avoid stomach upset
•Avoid overusing- regular, high-dose use can affect your kidneys or stomach lining
•Avoid if you have gastric ulcers or kidney issues
•If you need pain meds daily or your cramps are unbearable, see a doctor

Let’s choose science over myth.

🔱Understanding Endometriosis: A Silent Struggle

What is Endometriosis

🔱Endometriosis is a chronic and often painful condition that affects an estimated 1 in 10 women of reproductive age. It occurs when endometrium grows outside the uterus.

🔱The Hallmark symptoms of endometriosis are:
Pelvic pain, especially during menstruation.
Excessive bleeding
Fatigue
Pain with bowel movements or urination

📌Because these symptoms overlap with other conditions, diagnosis can be delayed for years—many women suffer in silence before receiving proper care. There is no known cure for endometriosis, but treatments are available to manage symptoms.

HIV/AIDS and the Youth: Awareness, Prevention, and Action

Why we talk about HIV/AIDS is it still major issue?

Yes, HIV/AIDS continues to be a major global health issue, and young people are among the most vulnerable.

⚜️Many young people are unaware of their HIV status, which increases the risk of unknowingly spreading the virus.
⚜️Stigma and fear often prevent them from getting tested or seeking treatment. 💊
⚜️Comprehensive sexuality education that includes information about HIV transmission, prevention, and testing is crucial for empowering youth to make informed decision. 💡

It’s Not Over Until It’s Over for Everyone.‼️

Knowing your HIV status is a powerful act of self-care, strength, and responsibility.

By getting tested, we take control of our health, protect those we care about, and help break the stigma that still surrounds HIV and mental illness. Let's normalize conversations around testing, support one another, and build a healthier, more informed community.🎗️❤️

Get tested. Know your status. Empower yourself.

In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, SCORA-AA held a community outreach program on August 20th as part of SCORA Ethiopia’s nationwide awareness campaign. 🤱

The event took place at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital, where new and expectant mothers received health education on breastfeeding. Guided by the Project Mereja brochure, our outreach team shared clear and practical information on the benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and child, key breastfeeding practices, proper positioning techniques, and strategies to overcome common challenges.

SCORA-AA extends heartfelt appreciation to all who took part through active engagement in the outreach.
