This is exactly what we do.

We track a LOT of insider buying and buybacks + performance since. Most of the time its a useless signal.

But combine an interesting insider purchase / buyback (eg relatively large, first in a long time, funds, etc) with some basic stock analysis, and just that subset alone beats the market by a wide margin.

Now imagine using that subset to dive deeper into the most interesting ones...

A brief thought on insider buying

I review insider buying activities every week, and I’ve come to realize it’s generally overrated.

Plenty of insiders buy at valuations that make little sense, which makes the signal close to useless if they’re not investors themselves with a solid understanding of valuation.

However, insider buying becomes far more meaningful when it comes from someone who actually understands how to value a business.

Think about this: most operators are usually not financial experts, but have a different background.

This means, they’ll buy shares but they’ve no understanding of what the business is and should actually be worth. They’re speculators, not investors.

At the same time, for example, if you’ve an activist investor who’s topping up their holding, this could mean a much stronger signal.

I found that: generally low valuation
+ Management with understanding for valuation + insider purchases (or buybacks)

Is a very strong signal.

JUST IN: Senator Mike Johnson just said that he supports a ban on congressional stock trading, but hasn't pushed for it because others feel differently.

He said lots of members of Congress rely on the outside source of income.
