The market's reaction to the jobs report is very telling:

S&P 500 futures surged as much as +40 points on a jobs report that was almost directly in-line with expectations.

Why?

Because markets have become increasingly emotional with elevated levels of fear.

Therefore, any jobs report that wasn't a complete disaster would result in a similar reaction.

Interest rate futures have also pushed rate cut expectations back to June 2024.

Fear is a powerful emotion.

ROIC > WACC for value creation

Measure using EVA (Economic Value Added)

EVA = NOPAT - (IC × WACC)

Where:

NOPAT = Net Operating Profit After Taxes
IC = Invested Capital
WACC = Weighted Average Cost of Capital

$MSFT example:

MSFT EVA = $71.8B - ($290.7B x 10%) = $42.7B

The formula can be interpreted as follows:

If EVA > 0: The company is creating value for shareholders
If EVA = 0: The company is breaking even
If EVA < 0: The company is destroying value for shareholders

BREAKING: The Nasdaq 100 has officially ended its streak of 497 trading days above its 200-day average, the second-longest streak in history.

Yesterday, the Nasdaq 100 index closed below its 200-day moving average for the first time since March 12th, 2023.

After the previous stretch of ~450 days finished in January 2022, the Nasdaq 100 lost -5.7% over the next 2 weeks and -22.0% over the next year.

Every time the index has closed below its 200-day moving average after a long run and subsequently dropped over -3.5% within 2 weeks, a bear market followed, according to Sentimentrader.

On the other hand, when the decline was less than -3.5% within 2 weeks, the index saw positive returns over the next year.

History suggests the next 2 weeks are key for the market.
