Marc Andreessen on the importance of distribution:
"The number one reason that we pass on entrepreneurs we’d otherwise like to back is they’re focusing on product to the exclusion of everything else. Many entrepreneurs who build great products simply don’t have a good distribution strategy. Even worse is when they insist that they don’t need one, or call [their] no distribution strategy a “viral marketing strategy.”"

Zynga founder Mark Pincus on why mature markets are a great place to look for startup ideas
“Mature markets that are already big are actually amazing places for of us to go and innovate and think about new ideas. There's already revenue. There's already customers. There's already buying behavior. And maybe there hasn’t been innovation in a long time.”
Mark points to Google as a prime example:
“Google was the 55th search engine, not the first. Search was over… There was Excite, Lycos, and Yahoo. But Google showed us that there was a level of innovation in search that would make it something different in our lives.”
Mark saw a similar dynamic in gaming in 2007.
“Gaming was a crappy business. It was declining. Casual gaming was the worst... It wasn't even a top ten internet consumer activity… [but] my belief was that if we made games accessible to people, social, and useful, that it could be one of the top adults pastimes, which now sounds really obvious.”
In 2022, Zynga was acquired for $12.7 billion.
