Yesterday I was introduced to a guy worth >10m from collecting Pokémon cards. He has walls of binders of top rated cards, many signed by the artist, and is so deluged with high value cards he has cards worth hundreds just lying on the floor. He paid off his first mortgage with a single card. I learned that card grading firms will take a cut of the value when awarding the highest grade. All such firms are now in private hands.
