Donald Trump never studied medicine, but that hasn’t stopped him from dishing out bizarre health advice. Remember back in 2020, when he mused about injecting disinfectant to kill Covid? The makers of Dettol and Lysol had to rush out statements telling people not to try it.

This week, the self-described “genius” turned his attention to prenatal care. “Taking Tylenol is, uhhh, not good,” he said Monday, with characteristic precision. Standing beside him was his health secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. the same man who admitted to Congress earlier this year that no one should be taking medical advice from him.

It matters little that acetaminophen has been on the market for 132 years as a pain reliever and is one of the most studied and safest medicines, if not the.

Trump claimed that using acetaminophen (Tylenol’s active ingredient) during pregnancy could cause autism. He urged expectant mothers to “fight like hell” to avoid it. Which, in reality, means suffering through pain since alternatives like ibuprofen are often discouraged after 20 weeks.

The problem? There’s no scientific evidence to back him up. Experts immediately pushed back, alarmed by the recklessness of the statement. Even JD Vance steered clear of repeating it, suggesting women should trust their doctors instead. And while Trump insisted there’s “no downside” to skipping Tylenol, an untreated fever in pregnancy can actually harm the baby.

Markets, however, don’t wait for fact-checkers. Shares of Kenvue ( $KVUE ), maker of Tylenol, tumbled another 10% this past week, hitting fresh all-time lows. At current prices, the stock trades around 12x 2028 earnings a nearly 46% discount to consumer staples peers at ~17.5x.
