Mark Zuckerberg on why experience isn't that important

“I started Facebook when I was 19, so I can’t really believe that experience is all that important or else I would have a hard time reconciling myself and the company. At Facebook, we invest in people that we think are just really talented even if they haven’t done that thing before.”

For Facebook, this applies to people who are fresh out of university all the up way to Facebook’s CFO David Ebersman who took the company public, even though he had never taken a company public before.

As Mark explains, the key to hiring well is to just hire really talented people. And you can often assess raw talent from the different things they’ve done, such as side projects and other accomplishments.

“I think what’s important is to not believe that someone has to have specifically done the job they’re going to do in order to do it well.”

Mark also points out that when you constantly create opportunity for your employees regardless of their experience, it keeps your best people engaged and attracts the best talent to your company.

Day of earnings upgrade (I'd rather wait, but they feel it's too cheap) $FSLR

Janney Montgomery Scott upgraded First Solar to Buy from Neutral with a $260 fair value estimate ahead of the company's report due after today's close. Shares are down about 32% from their $300 high seen in mid-June, reflecting increased uncertainty related to project pushouts, AD/CVD tariff rulings and post-election worries, notes the firm, which sees a "much improved risk-reward profile" given the current valuation.

Reuters: OpenAI has been cautious about poaching talent from Nvidia because it wants to maintain a good rapport with the chip maker it remains committed to working with, especially for accessing its new generation of Blackwell chips, sources added.

Seems like the Reuters report on OpenAI and Broadcom has confirmed a previous story from July by The Information which at the time had said discussions between the two were ongoing.

What might be considered new in the Reuters piece:

- OpenAI committing to using AMD chips for inference via MS Azure

- OpenAI abandoning creating their own foundry

Please opine if you believe this is inaccurate.
