A paper I refer to a lot… https://t.co/uG0UJcoCX6
Useful paper for teaching & learning. Tell students: “Your goal is to feel awkward and uncomfortable.”

Giving an explicit goal of aiming to feel uncomfortable in order to grow makes folks persist in classes, write better, seek out more info & learn more from political opponents. https://t.co/d827MIvxuP

RT @ellulie_: The more I read about the study of pedagogy, the more I realize that the metric of "feels good"/"feels bad" corresponds very little to the effectiveness of a given technique https://t.co/VjZQooYiBz
Cold calling students is a surprisingly good idea:
👉Rather than making classes awkward, it leads to higher voluntary student participation from more students, and ultimately more learning.
🙋It increases voluntary participation by women, closing the gender gap in participation. https://t.co/CBnmVXtICL

RT @emollick: Wish your students learned more in your class? Get them to THINK they did by giving them cookies!

In an experiment, 50% of classes with the same teachers & content got cookies the last class. Teaching scores for the 🍪classes were higher & they reported they learned 20% more 🤷 https://t.co/bWgkrbPtBQ

Ruh Roh: $RIVN "Rivian Automotive Inc. is planning hundreds of layoffs to trim its workforce in areas where the EV maker has grown too quickly."

The co is pulling back after roughly doubling its headcount over the past year to support a ramp-up in production. Big surprise!

Joining a nonprofit reduces pay by 5.5% compared to a for-profit, and about 80% of that comes from the fact that nonprofits attract different workers who would not have been paid as much while 20% is the “cost” of being at a nonprofit. “Commercial” nonprofits have lower penalties https://t.co/X7Na1mLifq

RT @DavidKButlerUoA: This from @emollick is the first time I have realised that cold-calling might be about asking students to participate, as opposed to answer a closed gotcha question. Why does nobody lead with this point when they talk about it? https://t.co/WQEnhz4nWd
When you cold call, you want to support, not embarrass. It need not be a quiz. You can ask open-ended questions or opinions on previous comments. The goal is to integrate the cold calls into discussion. You can also “warm call” & give people a heads-up that you’ll call them next. - Ethan Mollick

tbh this is something I imagined $NFLX would do instead of giving in to the chorus of another ad-based tier as I wrote in my ROKU deep dive:
